Phase I includes refinishing of the pews, repairing the terrazzo floors and replacing the kneelers and vents. Our dream is to be able to accomplish this project by years end. To date, thanks to your generosity, we have collected a grand total of $116, For that we are grateful. This weekend, the second collection at all the masses will go to the Renovate and Celebrate Fund. Thank you in advance for helping us meet our goal for Renovar y Celebrar Una meta es un sueño con fin de plazo Este es el momento perfecto del año para empezar a pensar en el logro de nuestra meta para la actualización de nuestra iglesia. 3 Feast of the Baptism of the Lord Page Three Dear Friends, This Sunday we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. This is another Epiphany or manifestation of God to the world. This Epiphany takes place when Jesus is an adult, just before he begins his public ministry. This is the revelation that gives Jesus his identity and dignity in his relationship with God. This is what God says to Jesus: You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. What Jesus does from this point on is an expression and incarnation of this revelation in everything he says and does. This revelation tells Jesus that he exists in relationship to God as a beloved Son, he is not alone and does not exist for himself; That God is well pleased in him even though Jesus has not done a single thing yet, God is pleased in him simply because he exists, simply because he is loved, simply because he is God s son. The whole mission of Jesus is lived through this dignity and identity. How does Jesus do this? He does this through conversion or metanoia. Conversion implies change and this change demands re-orienting of his life according to God s will for him. Although we profess that Jesus was without sin, he still had to orient his life according to God s will for him, in freedom he had to opt for God. As true man and human like all of us Jesus not only had to make a conscious choice to accept God s calling, but he also had to make the necessary changes in attitude, behaviors, and life style that allow him to live out his mission as well as express and manifest his dignity and identity. And this conversion began with Jesus by making what God says about him his own. Jesus had to identity with and live his life through that revelation. So, what does God say about you? In spite of your sinfulness, shortcomings and weaknesses, can you even conceive or imagine that God says the same thing to you that God said to Jesus? This is what God says about you through your baptism: you are my beloved daughter/ son, in whom I am well pleased. Accept, in faith, what God says about you; rejoice in it; revel in it; and allow this revelation to unleash within you the great potential for love, mercy, compassion and justice. What changes in attitude, behavior, or life style are needed in your life in order to further your conversion? Fr. Tony Díaz, CMF Administrator of San Gabriel Mission Queridos Amigos, Este domingo celebramos el Bautismo de nuestro Señor. Esta es otra Epifanía o manifestación de Dios para el mundo. Esta epifanía se lleva cabo cuando Jesús es adulto, justo antes de empezar su ministerio públicamente. Esta es la revelación que le da a Jesús su identidad y dignidad en relación a Dios. Esto es lo que Dios le dice a Jesús: Tu eres mi Hijo amado en quien me complazco. Lo que Jesús hace después de esto es la expresión y encarnación de esta revelación en todo lo que hace y dice. Esta revelación le dice a Jesús que El existe en relación a Dios como hijo amado, no está solo y no existe para sí mismo; también le dice que Dios se complace en él, aunque Jesús no ha hecho nada todavía, Dios se complace en El simple y sencillamente porque existe, lo ama y porque es su hijo. Toda la misión de Jesús es vivida por medio de su dignidad e identidad. Cómo hace Jesús esto? Lo hace por medio de una conversión o metanoia. Conversión implica cambio y este cambio exige una re-orientación de su vida a la voluntad de Dios para El. Aunque profesamos que Jesús es sin pecado, el aun tuvo que orientar su vida según la voluntad de Dios para con El, en total libertad tuvo que optar por Dios. Como verdadero hombre y humano como todos nosotros Jesús no solo tuvo que hacer una decisión en aceptar el llamado de Dios, sino también tuvo que hacer los cambios necesarios de actitud, comportamiento y estilo de vida que facilitara su misión al igual que expresar y manifestar su dignidad e identidad. Esta conversión comenzó en Jesús jizo suyo lo que Dios dijo de él. Jesús tuvo que identificarse y vivir su vida según esta revelación. Y qué es lo que dice Dios de ti? A pesar de tus pecados, imperfecciones, y debilidades, puedes por lo menos concebir o imaginar que Dios dice de ti lo mismo que dice de Jesús? Esto es lo que dice Dios de ti por tu bautismo: tú eres mi hijo/a amado/a en quien me complazco. Acepta, por fe, lo que Dios te dice; regocíjate en ello; gózalo: y deja que esta revelación despierte en ti el gran potencial de amor, misericordia, compasión, y justicia. 6 Page Six January 11, 2015 The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens for Unbaptized Persons and the Rite of Welcoming for Baptized Candidates This Sunday at the 11:15AM & 7:00PM Eucharist, our parish and the second group of RCIA Catechumens and Candidates will celebrate the rituals that accompany Christian initiation: the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens and Rite of Welcoming. Our Church opens her arms to embrace Nguyen Tran and Emir Zagal who have not yet been baptized. These Catechumens have heard our good news, the good news of Jesus Christ. They have seen God s power among us, and begun to hear God s story of love, mercy and redemption. They now come in faith, and our community at San Gabriel Mission will have the privilege of accepting them on behalf of the entire Church. We also welcome these Candidates who have been baptized and continue to seek full initiation into the Church: Viviana Radulescu, Esteban Suarez and Toshio Suzuki. Our Parish Community will accompany them in prayer and encouragement as they continue this journey of faith. This Rite of Acceptance is both a time of joy and a time of commitment for all of us. May we mark it with the enthusiasm of the Spirit and a renewed commitment to our Catholic faith. *************************************************************** El Rito de Aceptación en el Catecumenado para Personas no bautizados y Rito de Bienvenida para los candidatos bautizados Este domingo a las 11:15 AM y 7:00 PM Eucaristía, nuestra parroquia y el segundo grupo de catecúmenos y candidatos de RICA celebrará los rituales que acompañan la iniciación cristiana: el Rito de Aceptación en el Catecumenado y Bienvenida. Nuestra Iglesia abre sus brazos para abrazar Nguyen Tran y Emir Zagal que no han sido bautizados. Estos Catecumenos han escuchado nuestras buenas nuevas, las buenas nuevas de Jesucristo.
