4 Spanish for Educators, Level 2, Lectura This text describes graduation activities at a secondary school in Bolivia. Estos eventos generalmente son bailes, ferias, y actividades teatrales. Cobran por las entradas con el fin de recaudar fondos para la promoción del próximo año. Fiesta de Promoción El acto de promoción es la culminación de los doce años de estudios. En este acto donde los bachilleres reciben su diploma, toman parte los padres, los padrinos y otros invitados. Muchas personas toman fotografías y algunas las publican en los periódicos. Culminan con una fiesta alegre en salones especialmente decorados y animados con orquestas de calidad. Con los fondos recaudados el año anterior realizan un viaje al exterior del país o a regiones especiales dentro del país como un acto de camaradería y despedida. Preguntas 1. 6 Spanish for Educators, Level 2, The Present Perfect Tense Guillermo s summer school attendance is reported in the present perfect tense because it is assumed he has recently completed this activity. The present perfect is used to tell what someone has done or what has happened, and covers a period that begins in the past and comes up to the present. This is called a compound tense because it has two parts. The first part is the word for have. Its infinitive is haber, an irregular verb. he. has. ha. hemos. han. I have you (informal) have someone has; you (formal) have we have several people have The second part of the present perfect is a form known as the past participle. For regular verbs of the ar type, the participle ends in ado. For other verbs, the ending is ido. Now we ll look at the examples of the present perfect as they occur in the newscast, starting with the title. Guillermo Ha Ido a la Escuela de Verano Guillermo ha terminado su clase de verano de Literatura. En esta clase Guillermo ha repasado los estudios que no habia hecho bien y ha mejorado sus abilidades críticas en esta materia. Como resultado de esta clase, la escuela ha subido su nota en su expediente oficial. Para poder cambiar su nota Guillermo ha tenido que asistir a clases por lo menos dos horas y media al día por seis semanas. Ahora, Guillermo puede continuar con sus planes para ir a la universidad. 7 Actividad 2: Cosas que Nunca has Hecho The present perfect covers a period that begins in the past and comes up to the present, for example, your life. Use this tense to tell three things you have never done. Ejemplo: Nunca he visitado Australia. Nunca he comido insectos. Nunca he estudiado chino.
