2 Qué es el pasado perfecto? The past perfect is formed by combining a helping verb ( had ) with the past participle. It refers to an action that had already occurred when something else happened. Both actions are in the past, one occurring before the other.

3 Por ejemplo: I had washed the car before it rained. She had swum the length of the pool when she got the muscle cramp. We had finished breakfast when my brother arrived. They had flown in a plane before, but never internationally.

4 Para formarlo en inglés To form the past perfect, we combine the helping verb had with a past participle. For example, I had not finished dinner when they brought out the dessert. I is the subject had is the helping verb finished is the past participle when marks the start of the second action

5 Para formarlo en español In Spanish, we form the past perfect by combining the IMPERFECT tense of the verb haber (the helping verb, el verbo auxiliar) with a past participle. For example: Yo había bailado toda la noche. I had danced all night. Nosotros no habíamos estudiado para el examen. We had not studied for the exam.

7 REPASO: To form the past participle For ar verbs, take the stem of the verb and add ado EJ: comprar => comprado For er and ir verbs, take the stem of the verb and add ido EJ: tener => tenido

11 Acuérdense! Remember: the past participle (comido, hablado, etc.) does not change based on who you are talking about. The only thing that changes is the helping verb haber.

Otherwise, you may have assumed that ir (to go) had an irregular past participle. After all, everything else about it is irregular. But no, ir is actually regular in this tense. Let s review some irregular past participles

27 Pronouns In both the present perfect and the past perfect, you place reflexive and object pronouns before the forms of the verb haber. Same thing with the word no. EJ: No he comido. I have not eaten. Te has bañado? Have you bathed yourself? Se lo había prestado. I lent it to her/him.
