In the chapter just preceding this one at 5:8, Jesus tells us, Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. Here Jesus tells us that to be pure our hearts cannot be divided; we can't have two primary loves. God and his kingdom must have a place of absolute priority over everything else. He is the pearl of great value, the treasure hidden in a field, that we are asked to surrender all else to attain (Matthew 13:44 46). But recalling who God is absolutely trustworthy, the One who will always give us food in due season, the one who loves us more than even a mother loves her child we recognize that this great gamble of giving all to him is no gamble at all. To prove this we need only look at the birds and the flowers. Every one of his creatures is cared for in God's providential ordering of nature; still more can those of us who are not only creatures, but sons and daughters of our heavenly Father, be absolutely confident of his exquisite care and concern. So, if we give all for him, he will give us far more in return in fact, his very self, which is All! Resolution: This week, consider at least two ways in which you might use the words of Jesus about not worrying to bring a sense of peace and calm to your life. The important aspects of the Sermon on the Mount are that the Lord lays out for us what we must do to be His disciples. Jesus has high expectations of us, such hopes for us, as a matter of fact, that we cannot possibly fulfill them. The point is not that we can achieve perfection in the Lord s eyes, but that we diligently work to do so. Following stewardship as a way of life is that kind of an effort. Today s Gospel includes one of the most quoted statements of the entire Sermon. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Sometimes we struggle with exactly where to start. Jesus point is that we start with God, place our trust in Him, and the rest will follow. Cherry St. in Knoxville (immediately off of I-40, Exit 390). Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the nation and established their clinic in Knoxville in Our peaceful and law abiding vigil will begin on Ash Wednesday, March 5 th and will run daily from 7:00am to 7:00pm through Palm Sunday, April 13 th. Though many parishes and Catholic organizations have adopted whole days of pray, we still need the generosity of your prayers and time. It was the prayers and sacrifices of so many that contributed to the closing of the abortion clinic on Concord St. two years ago. Él es la "perla de gran valor", el "tesoro escondido en un campo," que se nos pide renunciar a todo lo demás para alcanzar (Mateo 13:44-46). Pero recordando que Dios es absolutamente confiable-, Aquel que siempre nos dará "comida a su tiempo," el que nos ama más de lo que una madre ama a su hijo-que reconoce que esta gran apuesta de dar todo a él hay jugar a todos Para probar esto sólo necesitamos mirar los pájaros y las flores.
