1 Lesson 51: before, after, while, since Lección 51: antes, después, mientras, desde/puesto Reading (Lectura) Before you go to the beach, call your mother. (Antes de ir a la playa, llama a tu madre.) We traveled to Japan before traveling to Canada. (Viajamos a Japón antes de viajar a Canadá.) Brush your teeth before you go to bed. (Lavaos los dientes antes de ir a la cama.) I will buy that cellphone after I sell the old one. (Compraré ese móvil tras vender el antiguo.) 1
2 After I drank coffee, my headache stopped. (Después de beber café, mi dolor de cabeza paró.) After we came home, I cooked pasta for dinner. (Después de llegar a casa, cociné pasta para cenar.) Someone called while you were out. (Alguien llamó mientras estabas fuera.) While I was talking on the phone, the dogs were barking. (Mientras hablaba por teléfono, los perros estuvieron ladrando.) While I study English, my son interrupts me. (Mientras estúdio inglés, mi hijo me interrumpe.) Since you can t speak English at all, you can t go to Australia. 3 Grammar focus (Enfoque Gramatical) Before (antes), after (después), while (mientras) y since (desde/puesto) son también conjunciones, cuya función es combinar dos frases o cláusulas. Before (antes) indica que una acción tiene lugar antes de otra acción. After (después) señala que un evento tiene lugar después que otro. While (mientras) nos dice que dos acciones ocurren en el mismo momento. Since (desde/puesto) indica la razón o el motivo de que algo suceda,o el punto de partida de una acción. E.g.)I will buy a new smartphone before I sell the old one. (Compraré un nuevo móvil antes de vender el antiguo.) I will buy a new smartphone after I sell the old one. (Compraré un nuevo móvil tras vender el antiguo.) I was browsing websites while I was working. (Estaba navegando mientras trabajaba.) I will buy a new smartphone since I sold the old one. (Compraré un nuevo móvil ya que he vendido el antiguo.) 3
4 Speaking (Conversación) 1) You have to call me before you go to the airport. (Tienes que llamarme antes de ir al aeropuerto.) 2) Before we bake the cake, we warm the oven. (Antes de hornear el pastel, calentamos el horno.) 3) Before I sleep, I drink milk. (Antes de dormir, bebo leche.) 4) The delivery came after I called the person in charge. (La entrega llegó después de haber llamado a la persona a cargo.) 5) You could go and play after you have done your homework. (Puedes ir a jugar después de haber hecho tus tareas.) 6) After he sold his old car, he purchased a new one.
