2 Sunday of Divine Mercy April 12, 2015 Message from Our Pastor My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, Bon Jour! Nous avons besoin de votre aide! That is about as advanced as my French gets these days. And that is why we could use some help. I am sure you have noticed that we really have a sizable Haitian community. I imagine that just like those of us who speak both Spanish and English still enjoy the opportunity for prayer and formation in the language we consider our first language so too our brothers and sisters who speak Creole and French would probably appreciate it if we could expand our ministry in French. When speaking of French it also seems to me that just like our learning the Ordinary of the Mass in Latin is a great blessing for us when we are at the Cathedral, in Rome, in Lourdes, or in any great liturgical celebration around the world so all of us having the opportunity to pray and worship in French here at home would help when we are serving at the Sanctuaries of Lourdes. Over the past few years we have been trying to expand our ministry in French beyond the monthly Mass and our prayer group, Salve Regina. We have offered missions in Creole and French, we have offered simultaneous translation into French of other missions and talks, and we have the Stations of the Cross in French as part of our Good Friday observance. When we celebrate large parish liturgies French is one of the languages included in the liturgy. We have been able to expand our ministry due to the generous support of the Salve Regina prayer group and other individual members of our parish community who speak French or Creole. But if we are to take that next step forward we will need more help. Now seems to be the time to call forward a French Ministry Support Team. To go further in our French-speaking ministry we need leaders who are able to help us organize and engage our French and Creole-speaking brothers and sisters so that each, offering what he or she can to our ministry here at Our Lady of Lourdes, will be able to grow and flourish. Are you that leader? If you are able to speak French or Creole and would like to be a member of the French Ministry Support Team please contact me at msgr@ololourdes.org and let me know. Ideally I would like to begin with a core team of about 5 to 8 persons. We would begin by looking at where we ve been, where we are, and where we are most ready to go in the near and medium future. I am convinced that the Lord has blessed us with the gifts necessary for this journey and that where we are going will be exciting and a blessing for us all. Que Dieu vous bénisse! Msgr. Me imagino que al igual que aquellos de nosotros que hablan español e inglés disfrutamos de la oportunidad de orar y recibir formación en el idioma que consideramos nuestra lengua materna, así ambién nuestros hermanos y hermanas que hablan creole y francés probablemente agradecerían que pudiéramos ampliar nuestro ministerio en francés. Cuando se habla de francés también me parece que al igual que aprender el Ordinario de la Misa en latín es una gran bendición para nosotros cuando estamos en la Catedral, en Roma, en Lourdes, o en cualquier gran celebración litúrgica en todo el mundo, tener la oportunidad de orar y adorar en francés aquí en casa nos ayudaría cuando estamos sirviendo en los Santuarios de Lourdes. En los últimos años hemos estado tratando de ampliar nuestro ministerio en francés más allá de la Misa mensual y nuestro grupo de oración, Salve Regina. Hemos ofrecido misiones en creole y francés, hemos ofrecido traducción simultánea al francés de otras misiones y charlas, y tenemos las Estaciones de la Cruz en francés como parte de nuestra celebración del Viernes Santo. Cuando celebramos grandes liturgias parroquiales el francés es uno de los idiomas incluidos en la liturgia. Hemos podido ampliar nuestro ministerio debido al generoso apoyo del grupo de oración Salve Regina y otros miembros de nuestra comunidad parroquial que hablan francés o creole. Pero si hemos de dar el siguiente paso hacia adelante vamos a necesitar más ayuda. Ahora parece ser el momento para llamar adelante un Equipo de Apoyo del Ministerio Francés. Para ir más allá en nuestro ministerio de habla francesa necesitamos líderes que sean capaces de ayudar a organizar y comprometer a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que hablan francés y creole de modo que cada uno ofrezca lo que él o ella pueda para que nuestro ministerio aquí en Nuestra Señora de Lourdes pueda crecer y florecer. Es usted ese líder? Si usted habla francés o creole y le gustaría ser un miembro del Equipo de Apoyo del Ministerio francés por favor comuníquese conmigo a msgr@ololourdes.org y déjeme saber. Idealmente me gustaría empezar con un equipo básico de alrededor de 5 a 8 personas. Empezaríamos mirando dónde hemos estado, dónde estamos y adónde estamos dispuestos a ir en el futuro cercano y medio. Our Journey Through the Catechism Our next Why Catholic? session will explore Difficulties in Prayer on April 22 in English, and April 29 in Spanish (both from 8:00pm-9:45pm) In our busy, often chaotic modern world, we find it hard to pray. There are too many other things to do; prayer may seem to be less productive than the other things on our agenda. The easiest thing to do is let the prayer slip away as we promise ourselves that we will get back to it as soon as we can. All of us experience these difficulties in payer. We are not alone in this. Yet we are called to pray always. The Catechism tells us that it is always possible to pray. The Catechism also reminds us that we cannot separate prayer from our discipleship. Por Que Ser Católico? Our events take place in the Parish Hall every Monday from 2 pm to 5 pm. If some of you have a skill such as knitting, crochet, jewelry making, arts and crafts, etc, we appreciate and encourage you to share your talent with our group.
