ADULT CONFIRMATION Attention All Catholics! Have you or someone you know been thinking about Confirmation? Life happens and sometimes being Confirmed in your high school years doesn t work out. Well now it s time! The Cathedral invites you to register for our process if you are 18 and older, have been Baptized in the Catholic Church, and have already made your First Communion. You will meet ONCE A MONTH for 7 months beginning in September and will get involved in our Cathedral Parish Community. Honoree/ designee receives a beautiful leather bound folder with an image of one of the Cathedral s stained glass windows and certificate inside. Cost is $60.00 plus shipping. DEDICATE A PAVING STONE You are invited to participate in the very foundation of your Cathedral by dedicating one or more paving stones that form the floor in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. A contribution in memory of a loved one, in your own name, or to honor a friend is a way to support the Cathedral and recognize a special event or holiday. When you dedicate a stone, you and those you honor are recognized by: a printed certificate and map with the location of the stone, a card sent in your name to the person whose special occasion you are honoring. and a permanent listing in the Cathedral Archival Register. DOG DAY AT THE CATHEDRAL Wednesday, July 12th, 6:00 to 9:00 pm Downtown Los Angeles residents and workers and their dogs are invited for an evening of mingling, music and pet-related vendor displays at this annual community event. Food and beverages available for purchase. Dogs must be social, live in Downtown LA and be on a leash. Downtowners without dogs are welcome too. Admission is free, but Registration is required. To register visit: CATHEDRAL OUTREACH OFFICE REOPENS! The Cathedral Outreach Center, located on the corner of Temple and Hill Streets, opened its doors in 2001 to serve the needs of the poor in downtown Los Angeles. After careful review and analysis, the program has now been refocused and revitalized in order to most effectively use available resources and meet the Cathedral mission to welcome all our brothers and sisters and to minister to them in the spirit of Jesus Christ. With a primary goal to keep individuals and families in their homes and safe from homelessness, the Cathedral will work in partnership with the successful St. Francis Center to provide assistance in three primary areas: Rent Support, Utilities Support and Pantry. The Outreach Center will also provide referrals to other sources of social service for those in need. For new hours and contact information, please see the Cathedral website. This new outreach program will be coordinated by Thalia Carreras of the St. Francis Center. We are also looking for a team of volunteers to assist us in this very important Cathedral ministry. VIOLENCE WITHIN THE HOME AFFECTS THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY Angelus News recently published an article on how domestic violence affects the entire family and the community members of all ages. In the article Dr. Ana Nogales, said domestic violence not only leads to an altercation between two partners, but can harm innocent children.
