2 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord April 9, 2017 Passion Sunday Domingo de la Pasión Dear Parishioners, We begin in triumph today accompanying Jesus with our palms as he enters into Jerusalem with the joyful crowds. We join him again a few days later as he gathers with his disciples for his Last Supper where he gifts the Church both with the Sacraments of his Body and Blood as well as Holy Orders. We then keep watch with him in the Garden of Gethsemani as he prepares to enter into his passion. Finally, after his trials we witness his condemnation to a torturous death on the Cross. The Passion narrative ends with the burial of his body and the posting of the guard at his tomb. On Holy Thursday and Good Friday we again witness all that Jesus accomplished for our salvation. As we accompany our Lord, let us meditate not only on how much Jesus suffered for us, but also on the salvation he accomplished for us through his sacrifice. As we do so, we enter into the mystery of love of God. We cannot understand the depth and breadth of his merciful love for us, but we participate in this love especially through the Sacraments he gives to the Church. As Christians, we know that the death of Jesus is not the end of the story. Our Lord Jesus rose from the dead and was exalted by his Father, as St Paul so beautifully describes in our second reading today. In his resurrection, we recognize the Lord Jesus as the Son of God and the source of eternal life. We who are baptized into his death and resurrection become by adoption sons and daughters of the Father. As members of the Body of Christ we share in his mission to bring salvation to the world. Entering into Holy Week, we especially pray for our Elect and Candidates for Full Communion in the Church. Through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist they will share fully with us in the salvation which Christ accomplished for us. Estimados Feligreses, Comenzamos en triunfo este día acompañando a Jesús con nuestras palmas mientras el entra a Jerusalén con la multitud gozosa. Lo acompañamos de nuevo unos días después mientras se reúne con sus discípulos ara la Ultima Cena donde el da a la Iglesia los Sacramentos de su Cuerpo y Sangre así como el de Ordenes Sagradas. Después lo acompañamos en vigilia en el Jardín de Getsemaní mientras el se prepara para entrar en su pasión. Finalmente, después de sus pruebas somos testigos de su condena a la muerta tortuosa en la Cruz. La narrativa de la Pasión termina con el entierro de su cuerpo y la puesta de la guardia en su tumba. El Jueves Santo y Viernes Santo de nuevo somos testigos de todo lo que Jesús ha cumplido para nuestra salvación. Al acompañar a nuestro Señor, meditemos no solo en lo mucho que Jesús sufrió por nosotros, sino también en la salvación que logro para nosotros a través de su sacrificio. Mientras hacemos esto, entramos en el misterio del amor de Dios. No podemos entender la profundidad y el aliento de su amor misericordioso por nosotros, pero participamos en su amor especialmente a través de los Sacramentos que el dio a la Iglesia. Como cristianos, sabemos que la muerte de Jesús no es el fin de la historia. Nuestro Señor Jesús resucito de entre los muertos y fue exaltado por su Padre, como San Pablo bellamente lo describe en nuestra segunda lectura de hoy. En su resurrección, reconocemos al Señor Jesús como el Hijo de Dios y fuente de vida eterna. Nosotros quienes fuimos bautizados en su muerte y resurrección, somos por adopción hijos e hijas del Padre. Como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo compartimos en su misión de traer salvación al mundo. Entrando en Semana Santa, especialmente rezamos por nuestros Elegidos y Candidatos a Completa Comunión en la Iglesia. A través de los sacramentos de Bautismo, Confirmación y Eucaristía ellos compartirán completamente con nosotros en la salvación que Cristo logro para nosotros.
