Students will ask and respond to each others questions. 1 class session of 30 minutes Review terms: English What is your name? My name is How old are you? I am years old. What is your favorite color? My favorite color is. How many brothers/sisters do you have? I have brothers and sisters. Where do you live? I live in. Vocabulary Spanish Cómo te llamas? Yo me llamo. Cuántos años tienes? Yo tengo años. Cuál es tu color favorito? Mi color favorito es. Cuántos hermanos tienes? Yo tengo hermano(s) y hermana(s). Dónde vives? Yo vivo en. New terms: English Do you have a pet? Yes, I have a. (No, I don t have a pet.) What day is today? Today is. What did you eat for breakfast? I ate. What time is it? Spanish Tienes una mascota? Sí, yo tengo un. (No, no tengo una mascota). Qué día es hoy? Hoy es. Qué comiste para el desayuno? Yo comí. Qué hora es?

2 THIRD GRADE, LESSON 2 SIMPLE PHRASES 2 It is o clock. What color is your shirt? My shirt is. What is your teacher s name? My teacher s name is. Where can you find books? There are books en (the class, the library, the backpack). Es la una en punto / Son las en punto. De qué color es tu camisa? Mi camisa es. Cómo se llama tu maestra/o? Mi maestra(o) se llama. Dónde hay libros? Hay libros en (la clase, la biblioteca, la mochila). Materials and Resources (Including Technology, Links, and Attachments) Whiteboard and dry erase markers Colors and numbers posters if available for students to refer to when answering questions Questions and answers document (found at the bottom of this lesson) o 1 printed copy, cut into sentence strips o 1 printed copy, for reference Two small bags, labeled preguntas and respuestas (Optional) Document imager and projector or overhead transparency projector PREPARATION: Learning Plan 0. Print 2 sets of the questions and answers: one will be used as teacher s reference; cut the other one into individual strips and place them in the corresponding bag labeled preguntas and respuestas. Have questions/answers available based on the number of students in your class (to avoid having mismatched pairs). NOTE: You may want to check with the classroom teacher before class begins to see if an overhead transparency (or computer file) can be projected on the screen rather than making hard copies. PREGUNTAS Y RESPUESTAS [30 minutes] 1. Tell the students that you are going to do an activity that will be a review from the first lesson and also a review from material they might have already seen in the previous years, but reassure them that if they have not seen the materials they can still play and learn it together. 2. Go over each of the possible questions and answers making sure that everyone is familiar with the meaning and the pronunciation. 3. Divide the class in 2 equal groups and line them up facing each other. (See note at the bottom for an easier version of this activity for less proficient students.)

Randomly hand out a paper strip with a question from the preguntas bag to each student from one group and a paper strip with an answer from the respuestas bag to each student in the other group. 5. The first child on the preguntas side reads his question and then picks a child from the respuestas side to read his answer. If the question and the answer match, both students return to their seats, if not, they both stay with their group until they find their match (similar to memory game) and then the second student from the preguntas side reads his question and picks a student from respuestas side to read an answer and so forth and so on until all pairs are formed and back in their seats. 6. If time permits, do a second round letting the students switch sides; the preguntas students are now the respuestas students and vice versa. Feel free to play along if you have an odd number of students or you can ask the classroom teacher if she would like to participate. Praise the students for their participation. NOTE: For less proficient students don t divide the class into 2 groups, instead, hand out the answer slips to half of the students and you can ask all the questions. Once this part is completed, hand out the questions slips to the other half of the students and students can take turns asking you all the questions. 7. Say Adiós to the students and thank them for participating.
