3 4th SUNDAY OF ADVENT "She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus." Joseph heard these prophetic words in a dream. They were words of anticipation, of what was to come. And in a sense, they ushered in a kind of Advent for Joseph. With this divine message, Joseph began a period of holy waiting. He now knew that the Messiah was going to be coming into his own home, and he had just nine months to prepare! We can only imagine how Joseph might have spent these precious days. Most likely he did more than prepare a physical home for his soon-to-be-born Son; he must have also used these days to prepare his heart, mind, and soul for such a tremendous mission. Today, we stand in a position not all that different from St. Joseph. We also know that the Messiah will be arriving--not just in remembrance at Christmastime, but in reality at the second coming. But unlike Joseph, we don't have an exact timeframe. We don't know when Jesus will return. We just know that we need to be ready! During the season of Advent we are challenged to recall this fact and strive to get our hearts in order. The days are short now until Christmas, and for all we know they might be short until Christ's return as well. What remains to be done? Aside from wrapping presents and planning parties, where do we yet need to tidy up our habits to properly celebrate the real meaning of this festive season? How can we make sure that we don't get swept away in the external preparations, forgetting the work that needs to be done in the invisible silence of our souls? God may not speak to all of us directly in our dreams, but he does speak to us clearly through his word. May we recognize today the mission he has laid before us. 4º DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO "Pues bien, el Señor mismo les dará por eso una señal: He aquí que la virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo y le pondrán el nombre de Emmanuel, que quiere decir Dios-con-nosotros" (Is 7, 14). Jesús es novedad absoluta venida de Dios. Novedad nueva creada y esperada de las diferentes generaciones de su tiempo histórico y de nuestro tiempo. De una genealogía que comienza desde Abraham y llega hasta José. En este último domingo de Adviento la liturgia domina por encima de todo el misterio de la Navidad que se ha ido preparando a lo largo de la historia. Tres personas ahora nos ayudan a vivir con alegría y santamente este misterio. María mujer fuerte en la fe y obediente hasta las últimas consecuencias. José que dejó sus dudas fuera sobre María y el hijo que ella esperaba gracias al ángel del Señor que se le apareció en un sueño. El rey Ajaz, como cualquiera de nosotros que cree pero tiene miedo a creer sobre el ofrecimiento que Dios hace de una señal. Qué podemos aprender de ellos? De qué forma pueden ser nuestros modelos en esta Navidad? Se puede decir que las lecturas de hoy nos invitan a una reflexión profunda sobre este misterio del Nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. La admiración es evidente cuando Dios viene a nuestra historia, y a nuestra vida deja huella y compromete a diferentes personas de diferente estilo de vida. Dios es fiel a su promesa y Jesús es puro don de Dios y eso debe ser la causa de nuestra alegría. El desconcierto que esto provoque de cualquier forma debe llevarnos a descubrir importantes elementos de fe. Ven, Señor, no tardes en llegar! El Domingo, 1 de Enero de 2017, una procesión a las 11:00am comenzará desde el th Street, entre 3rd y 4 th Avenidas, hasta la Iglesia de nuestra parroquia, San Juan Evangelista, donde se celebrara la Santa Misa, a las 2:00pm, con El Obispo Cisneros. 4 Sharing the Gospel Jesus was the Messiah that the prophets said would come. The blind could see. The lame could walk. The deaf could hear. The dead were raised to life. Jesus performed many miracles to show that he was the Messiah. He was the one sent to save the world from sin. John expected Jesus to save himself. But Jesus knew that he had to die, be buried, and rise again to save you and me from our sins. Name someone that you think is very important. Jesus said that John the Baptist was the greatest man ever born. John the Baptist did not live in a big house or wear nice clothes. He was not the president, and he did not own a huge company. You would probably think he was very poor. But John the Baptist was truly great because he loved and trusted God with his whole heart. He helped other people follow God, too. Prayer Dear Jesus, thank You for my bed. Give others a place to sleep. Something to Draw Draw a picture of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. Mission for the Week Saying "yes" to Jesus takes practice. When your parents ask you to help them in the house, say "yes" to them.
