Even the television shows that exalt some aspects of the legal profession (like Law & Order or The Good Wife) also have some lawyers that are less than noble in both their personal and professional lives. Even in Shakespeare's time this ambivalence toward lawyers was evident in Henry VI, Part 2 when Dick the butcher, one of the rebels, proposes to kill all the lawyers since by their arguments they can have a man condemned as easily as freed. Still, every day people turn to lawyers seeking their help with a host of problems. The love-hate relationship continues. In the Gospel this weekend, the scholar of the law is looking for the way to life. His question is sincere. He is trying to understand what is required of him. He can quote the law, indeed, probably even lives by it. But the question of who is a neighbor is one of legal precision. The interpretation of the Mosaic law based the fact of one being a neighbor on a covenantal relationship. Those who worshipped the one God were considered as one's neighbor. In the time of Jesus this narrow interpretation was being reconsidered. Some religious scholars suggested that a more universal application was needed, while others held to the tradition that Samaritans, foreigners, and those outside the law were not neighbors under the law. Jesus makes his position clear, although by coming at it from the other direction. It is the Samaritan who shows himself to be a neighbor. Maybe that is where the argument lies for us today. We cannot define with legal precision who is going to be a neighbor to us. All we can do is decide to be neighborly toward others, that is, to show them the very love with which we love ourselves. And then rely on God's mercy that someone will be there for us as a neighbor in our time of need Liturgical Publications Inc 5º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario La parábola del buen Samaritano no es más que la gran misericordia de Dios por medio de Jesús. Jesús es el buen Samaritano que con su narración nos sintetiza el amor. Los personajes del levita y del sacerdote son símbolos de personas que a pesar de estar bien preparados y tener cargos importantes en sus comunidades pasan de largo entretenidos en sus proyectos. Por su mezquindad no pueden ver a la persona herida al borde del camino. Comprender la imagen del Dios bondadoso y ver los problemas que existen en el mundo de hoy es una gracia. Y bajar hasta los problemas de las personas que necesitan ayuda es tarea de todos nosotros como bautizados. El samaritano actuó con la justicia bíblica que Dios demanda. Desde que Dios nos estaba formando de barro y mediante el soplo de su aliento divino, ya nos estaba preparando para ser buenos samaritanos. De qué forma al ser bautizados nos compromete a ayudar a los demás? Quiénes son mis prójimos? Quiénes son mis hermanos y hermanas que claman por justicia? Ojalá que en nuestras familias y comunidades actuemos como el buen Samaritano, que es Jesús mismo, mostrando misericordia y compasión de unos para con otros. Meditando y orando con la palabra de Dios y acercándonos a los sacramentos de la reconciliación y de la Eucaristía es cómo lograremos destruir el mal que nos rodea continuamente. Sin duda alguna hace falta en el mundo muchos buenos samaritanos. Eres tú uno de ellos? If you are missing Baptism, or First Communion, Confession, and/or Confirmation, this classes will prepare you to receive them. Rental fees are: Friday: $ 1,500 (+500 deposit, refundable) Saturday: $2,000 (+500 deposit, refundable) The hall is available to parishioners and to the public for social events. El costo de la renta es : Viernes: $1,500 + $500 de depósito (reembolsable) Sábado: $2,000 + $500 de depósito (reembolsable) El Salón está disponible para feligreses y público en general. The service will help you to find the community resources and support you need. Families looking for assistance with multiple issues often have a difficult time finfing resources. Family Support Coordination can help make sure every member of your family has access to quality care, education and support. Families with at least one child under age of 6, who has not started kindergarten, families that need assistance with several issues, families living in Central Phoenix. For further information call to Family Support Coordination at BAPTISM INFORMATION Parents must come to the Parish office to register, Tuesday Friday from 9am 1pm or 2pm 3pm. Requirements: Child must be younger than 7 years old. If older he/she needs to be registered in the Religious Education Program. Bring the original Birth Certificate of the child Godparents Confirmation certificate (if single) or Church Marriage Certificate if they are married Donation is $60.00 (Non-refundable). The dates of the classes are given at time of registration. If baptism class has been taken, please bring proof of the class date and attendance. The next baptism date is Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 9.00am (English) and at 10:00am (Spanish).
