As a young married couple they are deeply in love with each other and really work hard at being unified in their household as they raise their two young children. In so many ways they act as one. But every fall there is one thing that comes along that divides this couple: college football! You see, Joanna graduated from Ohio State, while Brad finished his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin. Most of the time, the weekend college football events are not that divisive. They can even root for each other's alma maters depending on who the opponent is. But when their schools play each other the division is intense. Their home life may be united in many things, but when it comes to their old school teams the rivalry wins out. Una persona astuta es muy hábil, ya sea para engañar o para hacer el bien, logrando pues cualquier fin. A través de la historia podemos ver que han existido grandes personas sabias y generosas. Pero también han existido grandes monstruos astutos que, por desgracia, han hecho mal a la humanidad. En nuestro tiempo la tecnología nos lleva a escoger cosas que antes no eran posibles. La astucia siempre está presente en las decisiones médicas, morales, políticas y religiosas. Y bien, la gracia de Dios puede estar en todo esto. Cómo entender lo complejo de los sistemas y llegar a tomar buenas decisiones morales? El Evangelio de hoy nos invita a hacernos esta pregunta y nos abre la puerta para formular una respuesta. In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus points out to his disciples that a person can really only devote himself to one master. Serving God and serving money are very hard to hold in balance. The dishonest steward in the Gospel parable could not hold to his ethical duty to his employer. Instead he used his position to feather his own nest, something that even his former employer gave him credit for. The loyalties that Brad and Joanna have toward their individual teams are commendable. They each maintain a strong devotion to their collegiate experience. But they also recognize that there is a greater master to serve in their lives: their marital union. As intense as game day may be, they realize that in the end, it is just a game, while their marriage and their family life is not. They have recognized a greater good even as they enjoy the game that divides them each fall. Our own lives can be exactly like that. We can come to an accommodation with every other thing as long as we recognize that God is the master of all Liturgical Publications Inc El propósito del Evangelio de hoy es el llevarnos a tomar buenas decisiones morales en situaciones complejas. El profeta Amós también nos lo dice claramente: no debemos explotar a los pobres e indefensos. Él nos esclarece con la verdad sobre prácticas injustas: "No hacernos ricos a costa de los pobres". Timoteo nos brinda la herramienta para ser justos: es importante hacer oración por todas las personas que ejercen alguna autoridad para que sean personas sabias y capaces de guiarnos por el camino donde todos podamos disfrutar y ser felices, comenzando por los padres de familia, nuestros gobernantes y por nuestros líderes religiosos, especialmente por el papa y los obispos. 3 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN We continue with the Capital Campaign. It will allow us to make possible some necessary restoration in our temple like painting the inside, installing a new floor, lighting, restoration of our images and the altar area and other projects. Es grande la inversión y necesitamos de la colaboración generosa de mucha gente. Las donaciones pueden ser hechas en nombre propio, de la familia o en memoria de familiares queridos. Solamente deben entregar su donación a quienes le hagan llegar un sobre con la información certificada por el P. Julio Lopresti, Párroco de ésta Iglesia. 5 ADULT CATECHISM BEGIN! All adults registered for RCIA Classes start on Tuesday, September 24 at 7PM at Saint Anthony Church. May Our Lord guide them during this journey of faith! SOCCER TOURNAMENT Will be held on Saturday, October 5th from 10:30 AM to 1 PM in the Parking Lot in front of the Parish Hall. It is organized by the Knights of Columbus and is free. All students are invited! RETREAT FOR YOUNG ADULTS A retreat for young adults will be held October 4, 5 & 6 at the Tepeyac retreat house in Prescott, Arizona. For more information, please contact Ms. Bianca Medina at or any of the youth after Sunday Mass. ROSARY SUNDAY In three weeks, on October 13th, plan to join the Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Bishop of Phoenix, at the Arizona Rosary Celebration. This wonderful diocesan event will be held at Phoenix Convention Center, Hall F and G, (3rd St. and Washington, Northeast Corner). The main program begins at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 4:15 p.m. Keynote speaker is the Rev. James Presta, M. Div., S.T.L., S.T.D. Petition boxes will be there for your prayer intentions.
