2 Page 2 ST. RITA CATHOLIC CHURCH, DADE CITY, FLORIDA Faith Formation Formación de la fe EL DON DEL SACERDOCIO Al igual que Jesús, el sacerdote hace alegre al anuncio con toda su persona. Cuando predica la homilía, lo hace con la alegría que traspasa el corazón de su gente con la Palabra con la que el Señor lo traspasó a él en su oración. Como todo discípulo misionero, el sacerdote hace alegre el anuncio con todo su ser. Papa Francisco Los sacerdotes son hombres que colaboran directamente con el obispo en la tarea de cuidar el rebaño que Cristo les ha asignado. Cuando Cristo es elevado a la derecha del Padre, no abandona a su rebaño, sino que lo guarda por medio de los apóstoles bajo su constante protección y lo dirige también mediante estos mismos pastores que continúan hoy su obra. Estos pastores en nuestros días son los obispos y los sacerdotes o presbíteros. El sacerdocio es un sacramento, instituido, es decir fundado por Cristo en la noche la Última Cena. Cuando estaba reunido con sus apóstoles tomó el pan y el vino para bendecirlos, dar gracias y después consagrarlos en su cuerpo y sangre, al decir las palabras haced esto en memoria mía, Cristo quiere prolongar su sacerdocio a través de todos los tiempos mediante unos hombres que Él elige. Los sacerdotes reciben, en el día de su ordenación sacerdotal, el poder para perdonar los pecados y para ofrecer, en nombre de toda la Iglesia el sacrificio eucarístico. En el rito del sacramento del Orden, el obispo impone las manos sobre la cabeza del que se va a ordenar, además de que reza una oración consagratoria específica en la que pide a Dios la efusión del Espíritu Santo y de sus dones apropiados al ministerio para el cual el candidato se va a ordenar. Los ritos complementarios ponen de relieve que la elección del candidato se realiza conforme al uso de la Iglesia y preparan el acto solemne de la consagración. Después de esta consagración se le entrega al nuevo sacerdote la patena y el cáliz como signo de la ofrenda del pueblo santo que es llamado a presentar a Dios. 3 Page 3 FROM THE PRIESTS DESK Brothers and Sisters: The ancient name for a creed is symbolum,- the formula of profession recapitulates, is a symbol for, the mysteries of our faith. The Creed is our response to our encounter with Christ in the Liturgy of the Word. The Church teaches that the one true God, our Creator and Lord, can be known with certainty from his works, by the natural light of human reason, (Catechism of the Catholic Church). The Nicene Creed, usually recited on Sundays and solemnities, recounts the works of all the persons of the Trinity, but the centerpiece of the Creed is a profound profession of Christ s divinity. Parallel with this Sunday s gospel account, and in the other readings as well since they accord with the gospel, we hear the challenge of Jesus walking toward us and bidding us to come to him; the recitation of the Creed is our response to his request. It symbolizes our readiness to trust in him with confidence and faith. When trusted persons in authority give us a command, we usually respond to them in good faith. But in carrying the command, we sometimes become frightened by unexpected demands and difficulties. To keep going, we need help. As Christian disciples, it is no surprise that we, too, meet challenges and obstacles. We cry out for help convinced that Jesus stretches out his hand with saving power. The entire Christian journey is a matter of walking on water until we are greeted by Christ in God s presence. After all: Man is made to live in communion with God in whom he finds happiness: When I am completely united to you, there will be no more sorrow or trials; entirely full of you, my life will be complete, (St. Augustine, Confessions. 10). Machado Hermanas y Hermanos: Del Escritorio Del Sacerdote En la antigüedad al credo se le llamaba symbolum,- una profesión que compendia, como símbolo, los misterios de la fe. El Credo es nuestra respuesta al encuentro con Cristo en la Liturgia de la Palabra. La Iglesia enseña que el Dios único y verdadero, nuestro Creador y Señor, puede ser conocido con certeza por sus obras, gracias a la luz natural de la razón humana, (Catecismo Iglesia Católica). El Credo de Nicea, que profesamos los domingos y en solemnidades, señala las gracias de las diversas personas de la Trinidad, aunque es esencia del Credo acentuar la divinidad de Cristo. Paralelas a la narración del evangelio de hoy, van las secuencias de las demás lecturas unidas al relato evangélico, donde escuchamos a Jesús retándonos llegar a Él mientras se acerca a nosotros. El Credo es nuestra respuesta a este desafío. Al profesarlo declaramos nuestra capacidad para confiar y creer. Cuando personas conocidas ejercen su autoridad y alguna cosa nos ordenan, generalmente de buena gana obedecemos. Sin embargo, mientras cumplimos sus órdenes podemos llenarnos de miedo por las dificultades que emergen. Para continuar precisamos ayuda, pues, como discípulos, también encontramos inconvenientes y obstáculos. Por eso rogamos a Jesús nos tienda su poderosa mano. La senda cristiana es un constante andar sobre las aguas hasta abrazar a Cristo en presencia de Dios. En un final: El hombre está hecho para vivir en comunión con Dios, en quien encuentra su dicha: Cuando yo me adhiera a ti con todo mi ser, no habrá ya para mí penas ni pruebas, y mi vida, toda llena de ti, será plena, (San Agustín, Confesiones, 10).
