From the Pastor Dear Friends in Christ, Sixth Sunday of Easter Happy Mother s Day to all of our Mothers! We are grateful for all that you do for us. I hope that everyone gets to honor their mother in some way today. If your mother is still alive hopefully you can spend some time with her, then give thanks to God that she is with you now. If your mother has passed away then you can honor her with a prayer, and still give thanks to God for her. We can always look to our Blessed Mother too. Jesus gave us His Mother to protect us. (see Jn 19:26-27) When St. John Paul II was young his mother passed away. He turned in prayer to our Blessed Mother and said, You will have to be my mother now. St. JP II had a very profound devotion to our Blessed Mother, and he turned to her constantly in prayer asking for her intercession. We can also turn to our Blessed Mother in our need. (see Jn 2:1-11) All generations will call me blessed : The Church s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship. The Church rightly honors the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of Mother of God, to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. (CCC 971) On Thursday, May 14 th we will celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation with Bishop Elizondo. He will confirm 20 of our youth and adults. The sacrament of Confirmation will unite them more closely to Christ, and will give them the spiritual gifts that they will need to help build up God s Kingdom here on earth. (see CCC 1303) The Church in every generation needs bold witnesses like this to continue to share the Good News with others. The first reading at Mass for both weekdays and Sundays during the Easter season is usually from the Acts of the Apostles. The Acts of Apostles is all about service and using the gifts of the Holy Spirit to spread the Gospel to others. We see this in the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-11). We see it in the way the Apostles boldly proclaimed God s word (Acts 2:14-41; 3:11-26; 4:8-12, 19-20, 24-31; and others). We see it in St. Paul s three missionary journeys (Acts 13:1 14:27; 15:36 18:22; 18:23 21:16). The Holy Spirit has also given us these gifts to be used generously to bring God s message of hope and salvation to the world. May our young people be bold in living out their faith and using God s gifts to the best of their ability for His Kingdom. May they be inspired by the example of the disciples from the early Church who were willing to give everything they had for Christ. And may they know that our Blessed Mother will also be there to offer her assistance in any way that they need it. Mary, our Blessed Mother, intercede for us before your Son, Fr. Tim Ilgen Monday May 11 Acts 16:11-15, Ps 149:1b-6a,9b, Jn 15:26 16:4a Tuesday May 12 Acts 16:22-34, Ps 138:1-3,7c-8, Jn 16:5-11 Wednesday May 13 Acts 17:15,22-18:1, Ps 148:1-2,11-14, Jn 16:12-15 Thursday May 14 Acts 1:15-17,20-26, Ps 113:1-8, Jn 15:9-17 Friday May 15 Acts 18:9-18, Ps 47:2-7, Jn 16:20-23 Saturday May 16 Acts 18:23-28, Ps 47:2-3,8-10, Jn 16:23b-28 Sunday Dec. Siempre podemos mirar a nuestra Madre Santísima. Fr. Tim Ilgen
