State of Texas 2012-2013 School Report Card (SRC) Jacinto City Elementary January 31, 2014 Dear Parent, Attached you will find a copy of the State of Texas 2012-13 School Report Card for Jacinto City Elementary. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in the enclosed 2012-13 School Report Card Definitions. The report for our school may or may not have all the information described, because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school. State law requires that the school report card display information about for the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socio-economic status of the students and must include at least two years of results. 2012-13 School Report Card (SRC) Definitions Annual Dropout Rate: Depending on the grade span at the school, one of the following rates is shown: Annual Dropout Rate (Gr 7-8) or Annual Dropout Rate (Gr 9-12). The annual rates are the number of students who dropped out (in the grades indicated) expressed as a percent of the number of students in attendance in those grades. Attendance Rate: The report shows the attendance rate for the 2011-12 school year for students in grades 1-12. Class Size Averages: Class sizes are calculated from teacher class schedules. For example, the number of students in science is summed and divided by a count of the science classes. Elementary classes are shown by grade; secondary classes are shown by subject. Economically Disadvantaged: The percent of economically disadvantaged students is calculated as the sum of students coded as eligible for free or reduced-price lunch or eligible for other public assistance, divided by the total number of students. English Language Learners: These are students identified as having limited English proficiency (LEP), or English language learners, by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC). Expenditures per Student: This value shows actual 2012-13 expenditures for groups of functions divided by the total number of 2012-13 students. Instructional Staff Percent: This measure indicates the percentage of the district s full-time equivalent employees whose job function was to directly provide classroom instruction to students during the 2012-13 school year. Longitudinal Rates: These indicators show the status of students after 4 years in high school (4-Year Longitudinal Rate) or after 5 years in high school (5-Year Extended Longitudinal Rate). The 4-year rate includes students who first attended ninth grade in 2008-09, showing their final status with the class of 2012. The 5-year rate includes students who first attended ninth grade in 2007-08, showing their final status with the class of 2011. These show the percent of students who graduated, received a GED, continued high school, or dropped out. Mobility Rate: A student is considered to be mobile if he or she has been in membership at the school for less than 83% of the school year.

Race/Ethnicity: Students are reported as African American, Hispanic, White, American Indian, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Two or More Races. RHSP/DAP Graduates: This indicator shows the percent of graduates who were reported as having satisfied the course requirements for the State Board of Education Recommended High School Program (RHSP) or Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP). SAT/ACT Results: The report provides four indicators: (1) Tested shows the percent of graduates who took either the SAT or the ACT; (2) At/Above Criterion shows the percent of examinees who scored at or above the Criterion Score of 1110 for SAT and 24 for ACT; (3) Average SAT Score; and (4) Average ACT Score. Information is shown for the classes of 2011 and 2012. Special Education: This refers to the population of students served in special education programs. STAAR: The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is a comprehensive testing program designed to measure to what extent a student has learned, understood, and is able to apply the concepts and skills expected at each tested grade level. Students are assessed in reading (grades 3-8), mathematics (grades 3-8), writing (grades 4 and 7), science (grades 5 and 8), and social studies (grade 8). End-of-course tests are given in the following subject areas: English-Reading I, II, and III; English-Writing I, II, and III; Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II; Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; and World Geography, World History, and U.S. History. Note that performance on grade 11 TAKS is also included. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Higher Education Readiness Component: The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program to improve student success in college. This indicator shows the percent of students who scored high enough on the TAKS to be exempted from the TSI requirements. Special Symbols: The 2012-13 SRC employs special symbols in the following circumstances: An asterisk (*) is used to mask small numbers to comply with the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). A dash (-) indicates that no students were in this classification. n/a indicates that the data are not available or are not applicable. A question mark (?) indicates data that are statistically improbable or were reported outside of a reasonable range.

STAAR: STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) es un programa de evaluación comprensivo de pruebas diseñado para medir hasta dónde un estudiante ha aprendido, ha entendido y es capaz de aplicar los conceptos y destrezas que se espera se evalúen en cada grado. Los estudiantes se evalúan en lectura (grados 3º - 8º), matemáticas (grados 3º - 8º), escritura (grados 4º y 7º), ciencias (grados 5º y 8º). Las pruebas de Fin de Curso (End of Course) se administran en las siguientes materias: Inglés-Lectura I, II y III; Inglés-Escritura I, II y III; Álgebra I, Geometría, Álgebra II; Biología, Química y Física; Geografía Mundial, Historia Universal, e Historia de los EE.UU. Note que también se indica el desempeño en la prueba TAKS del grado 11. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Higher Education Readiness Component: Iniciativa de éxito para Texas Componente de la preparación para la educación superior es un programa diseñado para mejorar los logros de los estudiantes en el ámbito universitario. Este índice muestra el porcentaje de estudiantes quienes obtuvieron una puntuación lo suficiente alta en la prueba TAKS para ser exento de los requisitos de TSI. Símbolos especiales: La Calificación Escolar de 2012-13 utiliza símbolos especiales en las siguientes circunstancias: Se usa un asterisco (*) para encubrir números pequeños y así cumplir con las leyes federales de protección de derechos y privacidad de la familia en cuestiones educativas Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Un guión (-) indica que no hay estudiantes en esta clasificación. n/a indica que la data no está disponible o no aplica. Un signo de interrogación (?) indica data que es improbable estadísticamente o se reportó fuera de un rango razonable.
