McFadden Intermediate School DESCRIPTION OF 8 TH GRADE ACTIVITIES End of Year Ceremony: McFadden Intermediate School recognizes all students who have successfully met the criteria for promotion to the 9 th grade. This is done by holding an End of Year Ceremony. At this ceremony all 8 th grade students who have met the criteria will be recognized by having their names read aloud as they walk in to take their seat. Following some words from students and the principal only those students who have earned end of the year awards will be recognized. The 8 th grade End of Year Ceremony will be held on June 20, 2017 at Segerstrom High School at 8:30 am. Each student participating in the ceremony will receive four (4) tickets for the ceremony during period 6 on June 16. No one, not even small children, will be admitted to the ceremony without a ticket. Lost tickets will not be replaced. No balloons will be permitted on the Segerstrom High School campus NO EXCEPTIONS! McFadden students participating in the ceremony are expected to dress in business attire and will be expected to wear the following: Boys: Girls: Dress slacks (no jeans or shorts of any kind or color) Dress shirt with a collar and a tie School Uniform No tuxedos or tuxedo shirts are permitted Dress or skirt and blouse No strapless, bare back, spaghetti straps or excessively tight and/or short clothing are permitted Shoes can be no higher than 2 inches Lightly applied make-up and light fingernail polish are permitted School Uniform This dress code will be strictly enforced. Any student who does not follow the above attire expectations will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. Eighth Grade Event: The 8 th Grade McFadden Party will be Friday, June 16 in the Quad. This event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Admission is $15.00 per student. Food, drinks and all activities are included. Knott s Berry Farm Trip: This year, those eighth grade students who have earned a promotion will go to Knott s Berry Farm for the eighth grade trip. The cost of admission and transportation is $42.00 per student. Students attending the field trip are to report to McFadden Intermediate School promptly at 8:15 a.m. on June 19 th. Each student is responsible for his/her lunch and any spending money he/she wants. Students will board the busses at Knott s at 5:45 p.m. to return to McFadden by 6:30 p.m. Any student who does not return on the bus will have a parent conference with Mr. Muñiz. Students not attending the Knott s Berry Farm trip will attend school all day. Students do not need to wear their uniforms to Knott s but they must dress according to the McFadden Intermediate School Dress Code. Students will be allowed to wear sunglasses and/or hats on the trip. Any hat that is not within in the dress code will be taken and returned to the parent. (McFadden students with Knott s Berry Farm season passes may use their season pass, but must pay $10 for bus transportation).

La Ceremonia de Fin de Año del octavo grado se llevará a cabo el 20 de junio de 2017 a la Escuela Segerstrom a las 8:30 am. Cada alumno recibirá quatro (4) boletos para asistir a la ceremonia durante la práctica de promoción del 16 de junio. No se le permitirá la entrada a nadie, ni siquiera a niños pequeños sin boleto. Los boletos no serán reemplazados. No se permitirá traer globos NO HABRA EXCEPCIONES! Los alumnos que vayan a participar en la ceremonia deberán vestirse de la siguiente manera: Niños: Niñas: Pantalón de vestir de color oscuro (no podrán usar Pantalones de mezclilla o shorts) Camisa de vestir con cuello y corbata Zapatos de vestir Uniforme de la escuela No se permitirá usar esmoquin Vestido o falda y blusa No se permitirán vestidos sin tirantes, sin espalda, demasiado apretados o chicos o tirantes delgados No se permitirá usar zapatos con tacón o plataforma más alta de dos pulgadas y los zapatos deberán tener correa en el talón Se permitirá maquillaje ligero y color de uñas claro Uniforme de la escuela Este código de vestir será esforzado estrictamente. Los alumnos que no sigan este código, no participará en la ceremonia. Evento de 8º grado: El evento se llevará a cabo el viernes, 16 de junio de las 6:00 a 9:00 p.m. en el área del almuerzo. Cualquier gorro que no se encuentre entre los reglamentos de vestuario será confiscada y regresada a los padres. EIGHTH GRADE END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES PARTICIPATION CRITERIA It is traditional for 8 th grade students at McFadden Intermediate School to have the opportunity to earn the privilege to participate in specially-designed activities to celebrate their pending promotion to 9 th grade. These activities include: 8 th Grade Event 8 th Grade field trip to Knott s Berry Farm 8 th Grade End of Year Ceremony In order for students to be eligible to participate in any/all of the 8th grade end of year activities, they must first earn a promotion to 9 th grade. Students receiving multiple F s may be excluded from all 8 th grade activities. In addition, students must pass all of their final grading period classes and NOT receive a U in citizenship. Students who fail to earn a promotion to 9 th grade will not be eligible for any of the privileges listed above. Effective Monday, May 1, 2017, 8 th grade student behavior and academic progress will be strictly monitored. Students referred to the office will be disciplined and run the risk of losing any/all of the privileges listed above in the following manner: 1 st Referral: Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm. 2 nd Referral: Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm and 8 th grade event 3 rd Referral: Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm, 8 th grade event, and participation in the end of year ceremony will be reviewed. In addition, students will be held accountable for their final semester grades. Any student who receives a F grade or a U in Citizenship from any teacher will have the following consequences: One (1) F or U : Two (2) F s or U s : Three (3) F s or U s : Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm. Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm and 8 th grade event. Loss of trip to Knott s Berry Farm, 8 th grade event, and participation in the end of year ceremony will be reviewed. Students who lose all their privileges will be given the opportunity to meet individually with Mr. Muñiz and their parents. Each case will be reviewed individually and Mr. Muñiz will render a final decision regarding the possible reinstatement of any privileges. If students have made payments for either the Knotts Berry Farm trip or the 8 th Grade Event, those fees will be refunded by the Santa Ana Unified School District in the form of a check sent to the parent s address of record. This usually takes 4 6 weeks. Refunds will not include the $10.00 transportation cost for each student to ride the bus to Knott s Berry Farm. Students who have earned multiple F s for both semesters may be excluded from all 8 th grade activities because they have not earned a promotion to 9 th grade.

Cada caso será revisado individualmente y el Sr Muñiz otorgará su decisión final al respecto. Si los alumnos hicieron pagos para su paseo a Knott s Berry Farm, serán reembolsados por medio de cheque de parte del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Santa Ana a su domicilio. Esto proceso toma de 4 a 6 semanas. Reembolsos no incluyen el costo de transportación para asistir al paseo de Knott s Berry Farm.
