Women: Find out if you need a breast cancer screening, called a mammogram. Ask about cervical cancer screenings, called Pap smears. Men: Ask about getting screened for prostate cancer and colorectal cancer. Who Needs the Flu Shot? You do! Everybody six months and older should get the flu shot. It is a smart way to help you, your family and your community stay healthy. If you are nervous about getting the shot, remember: The flu shot does not cause the flu. It s safe. It will help protect you from the flu that s going around this year. It will help protect you from H1N1 ( the swine flu ). If you are allergic to eggs, you should not get the shot. In the online version of Healthy Moves, you can read about: IlliniCare s commitment to quality Signs of depression Your right to appeal decisions Q A Dear Doctor: Sore Throat My throat is dry and scratchy. And it hurts when I swallow. Do I need medicine? A sore throat is a very common problem in both children and adults. You will see it called pharyngitis by doctors. That s a big word for a sore throat. Sore throats usually clear up in a few days without medicine. Most sore throats are caused by viruses. And if it s a viral infection, antibiotics won t help. Instead, try these four tips to feel better: 1. Drink liquids, both cold and hot. Either one may help get rid of your pain. 2. Suck on hard candy or lozenges. Lozenges that you get from the pharmacist, without a prescription from the doctor, can help. 3. Gargle with warm salt water. Try a half-spoonful of salt mixed with a cup of warm water. 4. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if the pain does not go away. You can use an acetaminophen product (Tylenol) or ibuprofen product (Advil), but be careful not to use it too often or for too long. If the pain from your sore throat does not get better after two to three days of following these tips, see your primary care physician. Also, you should go to the emergency room if you have trouble breathing, a rash on your skin, swelling of the neck or tongue or drooling because you cannot swallow. Thanks for your question!! 4 what to expect quick tips How We Care for You IlliniCare Health Plan wants to improve the health of all members like you. To help us do this, we have a Quality Improvement Program (QI Program). The QI Program is run by IlliniCare s medical director, the quality improvement director and the Quality Improvement Committee. This program looks at the quality and safety of our services. We look at the care we give to members. This includes medical, behavioral health, dental and vision care. It also includes services like these: Preventive care Emergency care Primary care Specialty care Acute care Short-term care Ancillary services You can learn more and see how we re doing. Call (TDD/TTY ). Signs of Sadness All people feel sad sometimes. Depression makes you feel sad and helpless all the time. You need to recognize the signs of depression. This will allow you to get help, or help others. Common signs of depression are: Being in a sad, anxious or empty mood. Changes in sleep patterns. Change in appetite and weight. Feeling guilty. Feeling hopeless or worthless. Thoughts of suicide or death. If you have these symptoms for two weeks or longer, see a doctor. You can also call our Nurse Advice Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (TDD/TTY ). It is important to get help to feel better again.

5 CARE STANDARDS plan updates Your Right to Appeal Decisions We will write you and your doctor any time we make a choice to deny, reduce or stop certain services. The notice you get will explain your next options. Your options may include: The right to learn more about our choice The right to have another review of certain choices Do you have questions? Call When to Expect Care IlliniCare Health Plan wants you to have the right care at the right time. So we work with providers to set standards for how long you have to wait for care. We have guidelines for how long you wait for an appointment and how long you sit in the waiting room. Are you scheduling an appointment? You should be able to see your primary care doctor: Within five weeks if you are having a routine visit. Within 24 hours if it s a nonurgent visit. Right away if it s an urgent visit. Right away if it s an emergency visit. Are you waiting at the doctor s office? Your primary care doctor should follow these standards: Scheduled appointment wait times should not go over one hour. Walk-in patients with nonurgent needs should be seen if possible or scheduled for an appointment. Emergency patients should be seen right away.

Todos aquellos de seis meses y más deben recibir vacunas contra la gripe. Es una forma inteligente de ayudarse a usted mismo, a su familia y a su comunidad a mantenerse sanos. Si está intranquilo con respecto a recibir la vacuna, recuerde: La vacuna contra la gripe no produce gripe. Es segura. Le ayudará a protegerse contra la gripe que está dando vueltas por ahí este año.
