1 Principal s Message 4/4/2012 Bike to School Day Media Event Thursday 4/12/12 Thursday of next week is Bike to School day. Due to the great work done here on developing our Walk & Roll Wednesdays, Sunnyside will host the media event for this celebration. VIPs who have confirmed their attendance include: School Board President Norman Yee; Ana Validzic of Department of Public Health SF Safe Routes to School; Leah Shahum, Executive Director of the SF Bicycle Coalition; and Chris Armentrout, SFUSD Director of Local Government Relations and Sunnyside parent. Please see the flier in this week s Wednesday envelope for more information. Family Concern Tool Kit At our last PTA meeting, Jessica Irvine from the Office of Family Voice came to present information for parents, but her presentation was diminished due to time constraints. Below is information that she wished to share with our community. The Family Concern Toolkit: By Parents, For Parents Nearly 2 years ago, a group of parents affiliated with Parents for Public Schools (PPS), District PTA (PTA) and the BOE Parent Advisory Council (PAC) began to work together to map out the process of voicing a concern and bringing it to resolution. This effort began in direct response to requests for assistance from families in need to all three of these parent-led groups. In early 2011, SFUSD, under the guidance and leadership of Richard Carranza, integrated the Toolkit into the operations of the Office of Family Voice. Since that time, the tools in the Toolkit have been available to families via the SFUSD website, or by contacting the Office of Family Voice in person or by phone. Kidpower 4/10/12 at 6:00 PM One of the other resources discussed at the PTA meeting was the Kidpower workshop on bullying prevention. PTA has contracted to have Kidpower present at Sunnyside this coming Tuesday. Join us and learn more about how to help your kids stay safe and feel secure. See the flier in this Wednesday envelope. STAR Test Sunnyside will begin our State testing on the week of 4/16. This is an exciting time where students have an opportunity to show the knowledge and skills they have accumulated over the course of this year. You can help your child to do well by ensuring the following: Get a good night s sleep Eat a good healthy breakfast During testing, listen & read carefully Relax while you take the test, show what you know School Climate Committee

2 Our staff School Climate Committee has been joined by School Site Council parents to further craft our school discipline guidelines document. We will continue working on this and put forward a draft to staff & parents once it is completed. Coffee with the Principal 4/9/12 Our next meeting will be this coming Monday. Join me after the flag salute for this open forum where parents bring the questions and topics. Renovation Steering Committee Our Renovation Steering Committee will meet this month on 4/16/12 to be formally introduced to Kristen Harper (Bond Project Manager for our renovation) and her team. The RSC will meet again before the end of the school year to further prioritize the renovation wish list drafted by our staff and community. 5 Mensaje del director 04/04/2012 Moto al evento de Media jornada escolar viernes, 12 de abril de 12 El jueves de la próxima semana es la moto a la jornada escolar. Debido a la gran labor aquí en el desarrollo de nuestra caminata & Roll miércoles, Sunnyside acogerá el evento de medios de comunicación para esta celebración. Personalidades que han confirmado su asistencia son: Presidente de la junta escolar Norman Yee; Ana Validzic del departamento de salud pública rutas seguras de SF a la escuela; Leah Shahum, Director de Exectutive de la coalición de bicicleta SF; y Chris Armentrout, SFUSD Director de relaciones con el Gobierno Local y Sunnyside primario. Kit de herramientas de preocupación familiar En nuestra última reunión de PTA, Jessica Irvine de la Oficina de familia voz llegó a presentar la información para los padres, pero su presentación fue disminuido debido a las limitaciones de tiempo. La RSC se reunirá nuevamente antes de finalizar el año escolar más prioridad a la lista de deseos de renovación redactada por nuestro personal y comunitario.
