Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. THANK YOU!! In calendar year 2015 SCCCW generously contributed $2,000 to the parish. The funds were raised throughout the year at the various events hosted by SCCCW. The parish used the gift to upgrade its accounting software, QuickBooks, in October. The parish moved to a hosted environment and into the cloud, enabling the flexibility of anywhere, anytime access for our team. The parish pays a monthly fee of $134 for the service. Additional benefits of moving to the cloud include: Reduction of IT Challenges there are automatic updates and upgrades to our version of QuickBooks which allows us to concentrate on work rather than spending time and money for outside contractors to assist with computer maintenance. We also have daily archived backups for our files for 90-days. Increased Security we are no longer responsible for server management. Servers are no longer kept in house which increases data security. Our data and applications are stored in SSAE-16 compliant, top-tier data centers (Tier IV). Fullyclustered server redundancy, encrypted communication, encrypted backups, firewall protections help to secure our data and applications against natural disasters. PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING US!! Their kingdoms were far from Jerusalem, their religions far from God s covenant with Israel. At first the star led the magi to Jerusalem, where they could recalculate their quest with the help of God s own GPS, the Jewish scriptures. How challenging and humbling for the magi to discover that they would find the world s Messiah not in a palace but with a poor couple in an insignificant village. That s where God s mercy, shining in the star, led the magi to worship Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Today the magi invite us to recalculate our life s journey during this Jubilee Year to follow the star of God s mercy along the way of humble love, to discover a renewed personal relationship with Jesus ourselves and so become guiding stars leading other seekers to find Jesus, too. 6 The Epiphany of the Lord January 3, 2016 Page 6 Epiphany Reflection MOTIVES Readings: Isa 60:1-6; Eph 3:2-3a, 5-6; Matt 2:1-12 Scripture: We saw His star at its rising and have come to do Him homage. (Matt 2:2) Reflection: The magi of Matthew s gospel are rather an exotic mystery. The evangelist actually tells us very little about them: they come from the east, they have followed a star that they read as a birth announcement for a new King of the Jews, they have brought expensive gifts for the Child, and, having presented them, they disappear back into the obscurity from which they came. Readers have deduced that they were three, and three kings at that, because of the gifts. Imagination has supplied them with names Melchior, Caspar, Balthasar. Ancient Christian writers and later hymn writers have seen them as prophets, choosing gifts that announced three essential dimensions of the Child s identity: royalty (gold for a king), divinity (frankincense offered to a God), and destined to die (myrrh for his burial). Matthew tells us one more thing about them, perhaps the most curious thing. They went to enormous trouble and expense to find the newborn king of a fairly insignificant kingdom under Roman domination for one reason only: to do Him homage. Another common translation is to worship Him. That translation may better explain their gifts. Before tradition assigned gold, frankincense, and myrrh specific symbolic meanings, they all played a part in the temple worship of the one God though how foreigners from the east knew that is anybody s guess. The magi came to worship the newborn Child, King of a nation not their own. They got directions at the royal palace, but they found the Child in an unremarkable house with His mother, unattended by the servants a royal child would have had. Undeterred, they fell down and did Him homage, or worshiped Him. They gave Him their gifts without commentary. And then they left. They asked for nothing. All that ravel, all that expense, and they asked for nothing no thank you, no hospitality, no food or drink for themselves or their servants, if they had them, or their beasts. Nothing but the privilege of offering worship to the Child. They make me wonder, when I find myself complaining that the music at the Epiphany Mass wasn t to my taste, or the homily failed to inspire me, or the kids in the back of church were too noisy for me to pray. They make me wonder, those mysterious strangers who asked for not one single thing for themselves, not one thing except to worship the Savior I claim to love. Meditation: Prayer: When you go to church or kneel to pray at home, what are you looking for? Jesus Christ, born to be our Savior, purify our hearts of all the giftseeking that keeps us from genuine gift-giving to you and to others.

Wade Supreme Court decision In observance of the Supreme Court Decision Roe v. Wade, that legalized abortion, Bishop Vann invites all the Catholic community to observe the day as a Day of Reparation. Catholics are encouraged to practice fasting, abstinence, and prayer on that day. You are also invited to attend an Evening Prayer on Thursday, January 22, 2016 to pray for an end to abortion and a renewed respect for all human life in American society. The service will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Arboretum of Christ Cathedral, Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove. There will be witness speakers and on this occasion we will also honor Theresa Sherrin, Founder of Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos. A reception and ministry fair will follow in the 1st Floor of the Cultural Center.

Inscripciones pueden ser transmi das en línea: congresoprovida/ Año Jubilar de la Misericordia 3 de enero de 2016 La Epifanía del Señor En este Año Jubilar de la Misericorida, la Epifanía celebra la misericordia de Dios brillando sobre los reyes magos desde la estrella que los guía. Sus reinos estaban muy lejos de Jerusalén, sus religiones muy lejos de la alianza de Dios con Israel. Al principio la estrella guió a los magos a Jerusalén en donde ellos podrían recalcular su búsqueda con la ayuda del propio GPS de Dios, las Escrituras judías. Que humilde y consternado debió ser el momento en que los magos vieron al Mesías del mundo no en un palacio sino con una pareja pobre en un pueblito insignificante. Ahí es donde está la misericordia de Dios, brillando en la estrella que guió a los magos a adorar a Jesús, el Príncipe de la Paz. Hoy los reyes magos nos invitan a recalcular nuestro camino de vida durante este Año Jubilar, siguiendo la estrella de la misericordia de Dios a lo largo del camino de amor humilde, para descubrir una relación personal renovada con Jesús hacia nosotros mismos para que podamos convertirnos estrellas guías dirigiendo también a otros buscadores a encontrar a Jesús. Al celebrar la epifanía, la manifestación del Verbo de Dios eterno en la tierra, el refrán sigue siendo cierto. Qué sublime premonición debe haber sentido Isaías al escribir las palabras que hoy escuchamos! Por cuatrocientos años, cómo habrán llenado los corazones del pueblo de Israel con esperanzas de que llegaría el día en que la gloria de Dios se derramaría sobre ellos. Qué desilusionados deben haberse sentido algunos cuando la gloria de Dios les llegó en una vida humana de las más bajas y humildes! Tenemos muchas expectativas de cómo la presencia divina va a manifestarse entre nosotros. Pero también podemos exponernos, por culpa de esas expectativas, a perder de vista la gloria divina cuando se nos aparece de verdad. Nos entretenemos buscando la estrella, y nos olvidamos que la estrella no es la señal divina, sino el bebé. Puede que tengamos que persistir en el camino antes de llegar a encontrarnos con la apariencia real de la gloria de Dios en nuestra vida: Jesucristo. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

Bautismos: Nuestros bautismos de infantes son programados mensualmente el tercer sábado de cada mes a las 10:00 en la iglesia de St. Catalina de Siena.
