Leadership Day will convey important information for tackling major issues you face in your management role. Our Keynote: John Hornstein, Ed.D John has worked in the field of human development for more than 35 years. After 15 years working with children and families and affecting public policy in Maine, he received his doctorate at Harvard University in Human Development and Psychology in His research focuses on the emotional development in young children with additional interest in cross-cultural issues, parenting, and creativity. He participated in the development of the AIMS Indicators of Emotional Health, and was on the faculty of the Department of Education at the University of New Hampshire for 13 years, teaching in early childhood education, special education, and undergraduate honors programs. Rhode Island AEYC Networking Cocktail Reception The Board of Rhode Island AEYC invites you to attend a networking reception held immediately after the Leadership Day. Special Award Ceremony Nominations for all of this year s special awards come from friends of education in Rhode Island. The individuals who receive these awards each year have made a significant contribution to early childhood education in Rhode Island in his or her career. Vaccination Clinic for Child Care Workers Representatives from the Rhode Island Department of Health/The Wellness Company will be on hand at the conference to provide vaccinations against TDAP and Influenza. These are some of the vaccinations that are required in the new DCYF and Department of Health Regulations for Child Care Workers. You must bring your insurance card. Persons that do not have insurance will receive vaccine at no out of pocket cost. Note: MMR and Varicella are also required and are two-dose series vaccinations. Those who have not received either of these vaccines should contact their primary care doctor or pharmacy if they are insured. Adults who are not insured can contact the Adult Immunization Clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital in Providence. Por Que Debería Asistir? 6 Conference Tracks You will be required to select ONE track to follow for the day at online registration. Please read the descriptions below and select the track that best fits your own Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP). Sessions have been aligned with the Workforce Knowledge and Competencies and they address areas of interest and growth for RI s Early Childhood Education community Note: Some sessions will be restricted in size, so register early! TRACK ONE: Lisa Murphy: The Ooey-Gooey Lady Join Lisa for a continuation of her keynote address and get ready to have fun! Lisa will be presenting several of her most popular training sessions, including Ooey Gooey Squishy Plop, 10 Little Hot Dogs and The Importance of Early Education: How Playing IS Kindergarten readiness. Prepare for an exciting, hands-on session with lots of interaction and movement! TRACK TWO: I am Moving, I am Learning I am Moving I am Learning is a fun and interactive training, which was developed to increase the amount of intentionally planned activities, around physical health and nutrition. This track will give participants many tools to use to support children through difficult transitions, plan intentional activities, and to ensure children are getting the recommended amount of physical activity required for their growth. We will be singing songs and learning new movements that can be implemented in your program every day. Come join us in comfortable clothing and shoes and be ready to have fun! TRACK THREE: Executive Function This track will provide participants with an introduction to executive function, its components, why it is important to early learning and development, and a summary of related research. Participants will begin to think about their role in supporting the development of executive function in young children. Promoting executive function is the basis of a program called Mind in the Making, developed by the Families and Work Institute. This track will introduce participants to the seven skills that are essential for children in the short and long term. These are skills that every adult can teach and every child can learn. We will explore ways that early childhood educators can promote these skills. TRACK FOUR: School Age Professional Development School age professionals are welcome to join us to learn more about several topics in this dynamic track that will address using physical activities to stimulate the mind in Active Bodies, Active Minds, as well as learning more about quality improvement of your own program with professional development focused on the School Age Care Environment Rating Scale (SACERS) and the RIPQA. These sessions will focus on using the self-assessment process as a first step in a continuous improvement planning process and key indicators of high quality program delivery. TRACK FIVE: Childhood Behavior with Jeanine Fitzgerald Nationally known speaker, Jeanine draws on more than 35 years of professional experience to empower teachers and parents to achieve more with children at risk. With experience as a certified teacher, mental health professional and mother of three grown children, she understands the promise of every child, as well as the diversity of their needs.
