2 2008 Pan American - Continental Championship Invitation (English) I. INVITATION The Confederation of Chess for America (CCA), the United States Chess Federation (USCF), and Chess Educators, LLC are pleased to invite all National Federations of the Americas to the 2008 Pan American Continental Championship. The 2008 Pan American Continental Championship will be held at the Marriott Boca Raton Hotel, located in Boca Raton, Florida in the United States of America from November 1-7, Please see the schedule for round times. The Miami International Airport, Ft. Lauderdale Airport as well as the West Palm Beach Airport are all on the Tri Rail system and offer rides to the Deerfield Beach station on Hillsboro Blvd. for a nominal fee. The hotel will provide complimentary transportation from the Deerfield Beach station on Hillsboro Blvd. to the Hotel. Please call: for transportation to the Hotel. The event was planned in Boca Raton and to take place prior to the Chess Olympiad in Dresden to allow players from different countries in the Americas to participate in the Championship as well as in the Chess Olympiad. The Marriott at Boca Raton is in an excellent location near Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, FL. Traveling to Europe from Miami is also convenient and should be taken into consideration. II. GENERAL CONDITIONS This event will be following the rules and regulations written in this invitation. In case of any omissions, the Regulations for the Pan American- Continental Championship will be in effect. These regulations can be found at ONLY FIDE RULES APPLY FOR THIS EVENT Characteristic: Each National Federation may register as many players as it wishes. These players must have a minimum FIDE rating of 2000 or USCF rating of All participants must be endorsed by their FIDE recognized, national federations. Tournament Format: 9 Rounds, Swiss System. Time Control: The time control shall be 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an additional 30 seconds per move from move one. Tie Breaks System: One player qualifies to the World Cup From This Event 1. If it s a two players tie for one qualifying place for the World Cup, these two players will play two games, 15 minutes per player with 10 seconds increment from move one. If after these two games, there is still a tie, then they shall play a three games match, 5 minutes per player. If the tie remains, they will play an additional three games match until the tie break is decided. 2. If three or more players tie for one qualifying place for the World Cup, a double round robin tournament shall be played, starting with 25 minutes on the clock, an additional 10 seconds incremental per move. If the tie remains, then the tie-break system of the main Swiss tournament will apply. 3. The tie breaking system of the main Swiss tournament will be as follows: a) The result of their particular game, if applicable. b) Progressive c) Progressive with cuts d) Bucholz e) Drawing of lots 4. The tie break system will not apply for monetary prizes, which must be divided among the players who tie for those places. TITLES, PRIZES AND OTHER CONDITIONS: Titles: The GM, IM, WGM, WIM titles norms can be earned in internationally rated tournaments played according to FIDE regulations. Continental Championship s regulations apply for this event.

No player can win more than one monetary prize, in the event that a player has the option to win two prizes, she or he will have to choose only one prize. For U.S. players, the endorsements will be submitted to the USCF office for further approval. If you need assistant with a letter for the purpose of applying for a VISA to enter into the United States of America, please request this information to us in advance. INVITACION La Confederación del Ajedrez para América (CCA), La Federación del Ajedrez de Estados Unidos (USCF), y Chess Educators, LLC tiene el placer de invitar a todas las Federaciones Nacionales de las Américas al 2008 Campeonato Panamericano - Continental de Ajedrez. El 2008 Campeonato Panamericano - Continental se celebrara en el hotel de Marriott Boca Ratón, situado en Boca Ratón, Florida en los Estados Unidos de América durante los días 1 al 7 de Noviembre de Vea por favor el calendario del torneo. Los siguientes aeropuertos son los más convenientes para poder llegar fácilmente a la sede del campeonato: Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami, Aeropuerto del Ft. Lauderdale y el Aeropuerto de West Palm Beach. CONDICIONES GENERALES Este evento se regirá por lo establecido en esta invitación y las regulaciones no descritas en esta invitación se basaran en las regulaciones para el Campeonato Continental. Estas regulaciones se pueden encontrar en SOLAMENTE LAS REGLAS DE LA FIDE APLICAN EN ESTE EVENTO. Características: Torneo Abierto, cada Federación Nacional podrá inscribir los ajedrecistas que desee, cuyo ELO-FIDE sea igual ó superior a 2000 puntos o/y que USCF ratings sea igual o superior a Se exceptúan los países de América pertenecientes al CACDEC, que podrán enviar un representante, sin el lleno de esta condición. Todo participante deberá exhibir la autorización de su Federación, la cual deberá estar habilitada por la FIDE. Formato del Torneo: 9 Rondas, Sistema Suizo. Control de Tiempo: El control de tiempo será de 90 minutos para los primeros 40 movimientos seguidos por 30 minutos para cada jugador para el resto de la partida, agregando 30 segundos por cada movimiento desde el primer movimiento. Systema de Desempate: Un jugador clasificara a la fase Copa Mundial FIDE, del ciclo del Campeonato del Mundo. En caso de empate, se definirá así: 1. Empate entre dos jugadores: 2 partidas a 15 minutos por jugador. Con un adicional de 10 segundos desde la movida uno. En caso de mantenerse el empate, se jugarán otras 2 partidas a 5 minutos cada uno, si el empate persiste, se jugará un match de tres partidas a cinco minutes y así sucesivamente hasta que el empate se resuelva. 2. Empate entre tres o mas jugadores: Round Robin sencillo a 15 minutos por jugador mas 10 seg. por jugada, desde el inicio, en caso de empate se aplicará el desempate del Torneo Absoluto Suizo.

7 3. Sistema de desempate para el torneo suizo a) Resultado de la partida individual, si aplicara. b) Progresivo c) Progresivo con cortes d) Bucholz e) Bucholz con corte. 4. Para efecto de los premios en dinero, estos serán divisibles entre los jugadores que empaten por esos lugares. Títulos: Normas para GM, MI, GMF y MIF se pueden obtener basados en las regulaciones para el Campeonato Continental. 8 III. COSTOS Y CALENDARIO Costo de registración: $175 antes del 30 de Septiembre. Las inscripciones o registraciones recibidas después del 30 de Septiembre costaran $200 por jugador.
