8 PAGE 8 VOLUME 34, NUMBER 1 A Message From The Principal Dear White Plains High School Families, I am delighted to begin a new school year with all of you. The summer is always lovely, and this one has been especially nice, but truth be told, I really miss our students and faculty- the privilege of working in a school filled with such terrific young people, so filled with hope, promise and potential is never lost on me and the opportunity to begin again is exciting. I look forward to welcoming the class of 2015 as they take on leadership roles in the school. I know they will set a wonderful example for all of our students. Equally exciting is the opportunity to welcome our freshman class for whom the high school will offer opportunity, challenge and success. This year, the first Friday of the school year will be White Plains High School Pride day- our student leaders and many of our varsity athletes will wear T- shirts or team jerseys that identify them as ambassadors of our school- they will help open lockers, navigate the halls and find classrooms for our new students. I am thrilled to welcome new teachers, administrators and staff to our exceptional faculty. They are as follows: Kelly McAvoy, Jessica Livingston, Ilana Schikler, and Samy Habib, English; Elizabeth Cerino, Library Media Specialist; Rochelle Brown, Social Studies; Jenice Richardson, Special Education; Susan Cao, Catalina Restrepo, Alison Smith, and Mengmeng Wang, LOTE; Genevieve Little, Guidance Counselor; Esther Lee-Huh, Science and Robert Molfetta, Technology. Dana Quigley (DeVito) returns from leave. I want to offer special congratulations to two of our high school teachers who will assume leadership roles in our schools this year: Richard Dillon as our Coordinator of Social Studies and Albert Laporte who will lead our mathematics department as a teacher on assignment. Also exciting are the addition of another school counselor position and an additional teacher of English language arts. In our classrooms this year we will continue to stress the importance of well-developed critical and analytical thinking skills, strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively. We will emphasize the value of respectful, civil interaction between and among students and adults. We ll ask you to support our efforts to maintain a safe, well ordered school where a culture of excellence is built on a foundation of good will and good manners. I look forward to seeing you at our Back to School night, at our PTA and Guidance nights as well as at games, concerts, plays and art exhibits! Here s to another great year! GO TIGERS!
