The class of 2015 will be the 120th graduating class of Corona High School. There are many steps and a lot of planning that go into making graduation run smoothly. Being aware of important dates and deadlines is important for seniors as well as their parents in order to prevent any unpleasant surprises or obstacles at the time of graduation. The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you as parents aware of the information that seniors are receiving so that we can work together to ensure a smooth, enjoyable ceremony for everyone. If you have any questions about any of Caption describing picture or graphic. the information in the newsletter or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact the Activities Office at If we do not answer right away, please leave a message and we will get back to you within 24 hours. You and your senior are very important to us and we want to do everything possible to make graduation a wonderful event that is enjoyed by both the graduate as well as his or her family members. We are looking forward to another great graduation for our Panthers! Mrs. Julie Stivers Assistant Principal, Activities Obligations 2 Senior 3 Activities Sr. Dinner 3 Dance Grad. Tickets 3 Senior 4 Success Graduation Items In the fall all seniors attended senior orientation where Jostens went through the graduation item ordering process. Most seniors placed orders for their cap and gown prior to leaving for Winter Break. If your senior did not place an order, they must fill out a late order packet. ASAP! These are available in the Student Store. Graduation items are loaned to all seniors and do not cost money unless they wish to keep a part of it. If they wish to purchase a graduation item the costs are five dollars for the cap and ten dollars for the tassel. Seniors who do not purchase any of these items must return all three in order to pick up their diploma after the graduation ceremony. These items can be purchased in the student store with cash only. All graduation items will be delivered April 15th & 16th during lunch in the theater foyer.

2 P A G E 2 Additional Graduation Items Corona High School A Tradition of In addition to the cap, gown and tassel, some seniors will earn honors cords. These honor cords recognize students who have earned a 3.0 and higher. Honor cords are not mandatory for the graduation ceremony and may be purchased if earned. The cost of the cords is $8.00 each and students can pay for these in the student store with cash only. The honor cords are given for the following GPAs: Honors , Red cord, High Honors , gold cord Honors with Distinction 4.0 and higher, red and gold cords If a sibling or friend who has already graduated from CHS has these honor cords and your senior who has earned them would prefer to use theirs instead of purchasing your own, you are able to do that as well. Honor cords will be distributed at the senior breakfast where we will have a list to verify who has paid and which cords were earned. Honor cords are awarded based on the grades on the final report card and transcript. In late April, seniors who earned cords will be notified by the office. Excellence Obligatio ns Obligations are debts owed to the school from previous fundraisers, damaged or lost textbooks or any other fees incurred during the student s four years at Corona. Obligations from other schools follow a student as well. It is important that seniors pay off or clear their obligations as soon as possible. Seniors with obligations are not allowed to purchase additional tickets until the debt is paid. Tickets to the ceremony (including free tickets) will not be given until these debts are paid off. Notices are mailed home and delivered to seniors with outstanding obligations. Please ensure that your senior is taking care of his/her debts so that you receive graduation tickets. Seniors are so close to going out into the real world and being on their own, but they still need your assistance and support. Please help your senior to remain successful throughout the rest of his or her senior year. Often times seniors feel the need to be independent, but sometimes they are not able to be successful without parental support. Here are some things you can do to make sure your son or daughter graduates on time: 1. Check his or her grades using Q Parent Portal. This is a new program this year where parents can monitor student success in all classes at important times of the year. If you currently do not have access to Q, please contact Elizabeth Maciel by at: 1. Ask your son or daughter to bring home weekly progress reports. These reports are available to stu- dents in the career center on Mondays. All teachers fill them in you can see a weekly update of their grades. 2. Talk to your child s counselor. Make sure that he or she has all the credits needed to graduate. If night school or credit recovery is necessary, the counselor can assist you in making sure your child is taking the right steps to graduation.
