2 PREPOSICIONES IN,ON, AT, PARA INDICAR LUGAR Y POSICION. 1 Generalmente IN indica dentro de. Indica con precisión que está dentro de Ejemplos: The pencil is in the box The teacher is in the classroom. Virginia is in the United States. Quibor is in Lara State. AT se usa mas bien para indicar presencia en el lugar, sin determinar dónde exactamente. generalmente se utiliza para ubicar en espacios amplios. Ejemplos: Mr.Allen is at the University Charles and Mary are at the movies. Mary is at the office. (También puede ser utilizado IN siempre que el hablante este seguro que Mary está dentro de la oficina). Generalmente la preposición ON indica que un objeto está en contacto con alguna superficie. Ejemplos: The picture is on the Wall The sentences are on the blackboard. The books and pencils are on the desk. Mary is on the bus. Fill the blanks with IN ON or AT, and answer the questions, as in the example. (Llene los espacios con IN- ON o AT y contesta las preguntas, como en el ejemplo.) Is the piece of chalk IN the box? Clues: Si tienes dificultad para responder estas o algunas de estas preguntas, repasa lo siguiente: Pronombres personales (se utilizan al igual que en castellano para sustituir los nombres de las personas, por ejemplo, en lugar de decir: María es bonita, podemos decir: Ella es bonita. Otro ejemplo: en lugar de decir: el señor y la señora González están en el cine, podemos decir: ellos están en el cine. IGUAL ES EN INGLES. 4 Si tuviste dificultad para responder las preguntas, debes conocer, además, la conjugación del verbo TO BE que significa SER O ESTAR en Español. La conjugación es la siguiente: (acompañada de los pronombres personales) 3 CASTELLANO Yo soy o yo estoy Tú eres o tú estás. Él es o él está. Ella es o ella está. Eso es o eso está. INGLES I am You are He is She is. It is Nosotros somos o nosotros estamos. We are. Ustedes son o ustedes están. Ellos son o ellos están. You are. They are. En tercer lugar debes conocer el orden de las oraciones afirmativas, negativas e interrogativas, que son los siguientes: Estructura de las oraciones afirmativas en inglés. (Con el verbo to be) Sujeto (nombre o pronombre) + verbo to be + complemento directo+ comp de lugar+ comp de hora+ comp de tiempo. Estructura de las oraciones negativas en Inglés. ( verb to be) No, + pronombre +verbo+ not+ comp. Directo+comp de lugar+comp de hora+comp de tiempo. Estructuras de las oraciones interrogativas en Inglés (verb to be) Verbo to be+ nombre o pronombre+complementos.

Ella no es estudiante. Nosotros no somos estudiantes. Ustedes no son estudiantes. Ellos no son estudiantes. Ahora construye oraciones con el verbo to be, afirmativas, interrogativas y negativas. Example: I m at the office today. Are you at the office today? No, I m not at the office today. Haz suficientes oraciones para que domines este tema.

I think he s the bathroom There is a tv the table. 17.-Are the dogs the garage? Is José the kitchen? There are two pillows the bed. 19.-The Browns almost never go downtown the bus Are Helen and Harry the movies now? 21.-Does the teacher usually write his desk? 22.-Does your mother always fix breakfast _ your house? THERE IS THERE ARE There is and there are, are important phrases in English, the y correspond to the Spanish: HAY. We use THERE IS with singular nouns; we use THERE ARE with plural nouns. Examples: There is a book on the table There are two magazines on the desk. Complete the following sentences with THERE IS or THERE ARE. 1.- New Moon tonight. 2.- someone at the door. 3.- a lot of students absent today. 4.- a mailbox on the corner. 6.-But only a door. 5.- three lamps windows in the room. 7.- a lot of English classes in our school.
8 7 THERE IS THERE ARE. NEGATIVE FORM The negative form of THERE IS and THERE ARE is obtained regularly by placing NOT after the verb. Examples: There is NOT cloud in the sky. There are NOT many students in our class. In everyday conversation, however, the contractions ISN T and AREN T are generally used. Examples: There ISN T one cloud in the sky. There AREN T many students in our class Change to negative form. Write the verb of each sentence, followed by NOT. Use contracted forms only. 1.-There are many chairs There is a radio in each room There is a policeman on the corner. 4.-There are many new students 5.-There are two doors in the room 6.-There is a letter here for you. 7.-There are many new words in this lesson THERE IS THERE ARE- Question form. The question form of there is and there are the word there. Examples: is obtained regularly by placing the verb before Is there a pencil on the desk? Is there a hotel here? There are windows on the right. Are there windows on the right?
9 8 Are there many students in your class? How many days are there in a week? Change to questions, write the verb of each sentence followed by there There are several pictures on the wall. 1.-? 2.-There are twelve months in a year. 3.-There is a radio in every room. 2.-? 3.-? 4. - There is a rug on the floor. 4.-? 5. - There are four seasons in a year. 5.-? 6.-There is a flag at the top of the building. 6.-? 7.-There are ten new words in this lesson. 7.-? THE INTERROGATIVE WORD : WHERE. The museum is on the corner. The library is next to the school. The notebook is on the table. The books are in the schoolbag. Where is the museum? Where is the library? Where is the notebook? Where are the books? Do the questions: Tom is downtown. Maryland is in the United States. Where?? I`m in my English class. You? Cabudare is in Lara State.
