CSI is a reading enrichment program with exciting science literature, reader's theater, and centers with hands-on science experiments on topics such as water, weather, matter, measurement, simple machines, and scientific tools. Here is the specific information you will need to know as you are planning your family's summer activities: If selected, your child will be attending CSI at Elementary. (A bus will be provided to transport your child to this site). CSI dates: Monday, July 8 th through Thursday, August 1st Please see attached calendar for actual dates CSI times: 8:35 a.m. - 2:05 p.m. Transportation: Information will be sent home in May. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost (Please arrive by 8:20 a.m.). Return the Emergency Contact/Parent permission form attached immediately and you will receive an acceptance letter or waiting list letter. All students completing the CSI Summer Program will receive an exciting assortment of books to add to their own home library. Wright Dear Principals of Title I Non-Public Schools: This letter is to notify you that some of your students may qualify for the Title I summer program called CSI, Comprehension and Science Investigation. This program will be offered for zoned students from 31 Title I schools throughout the county. Title I zoned students at your non-public schools that are currently in grades PreK-4th would qualify for the summer CSI program on a space available basis. (Note below that some schools do not offer grade Pre-K, K or 1 st grade CSI.) CSI is a reading enrichment program with exciting science literature, reader's theater, and centers with handson science experiments on topics such as weather, matter, measurement, simple machines and scientific tools. This is a pre-teach program of upcoming science topics for the next grade with reading at their current grade or lower. We will also be including a full hour of math lessons each day. Enclosed are the blue information packets we gave out to our Volusia County principals with all the information for you to look over. We have also enclosed some copy ready nomination letters, congratulation letters and waiting list letters in the event you need more copies. All completed paperwork (Emergency Contact/Parent Permission Form & Student Information Sheet) for students to be considered needs to go to Gail Filson at Herbert Street Center by May 21st. the number of quadruplicate Student Information forms you need. Students need to have their zoned Title Ischool registrar enter busing information by May 30 th if the parents wish bus transportation. Please call me if you have any questions about our procedures for your students to register at their Title I zoned school. 9 CSI Summer Program 2013 Grades PreK, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th New this year- PreK and K at selected summer sites! CSI (Comprehension and Science Investigation) is an engaging hands-on integrated science and reading program. CSI will focus on science content centered on themes of the practice of science, oceans, water cycle, weather, matter, and energy. Hands-on Foss and Delta experiments, problem-solving math questions and writing will also be incorporated. All grades have been updated with Common Core curriculum and the new added technology of ipads in Grades 3 & 4. The goals of this program are to strengthen reading and math strategies as well as preteaching science content for the next grade. Specific information on attending CSI: Title I students are nominated by their teachers.
