SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION For First Communion, the student must be in First Grade or 6 13 years old, be able to read and write in English or Spanish. This is a two year program. 4 Dear Parishioners of Most Holy Trinity; I write you with two pieces of good news. Ms. Karen Francois has been selected as the new principal of Most Holy Trinity School. Ms. Francois comes with much experience as a principal at the elementary level. We wish her a very warm welcome as she begins her task of leading our school in our 50 th year. She will be on site beginning at the end of this month. Welcome! An update for you regarding our ADA for this year. Once again, MHT headed all parishes of the diocese in number of participants with 892. We exceeded our goal by $27,728, that is if everyone lives up to their pledge. 5 W o r s h i p & P r a y e r SETTING ASIDE THE WEAPONS OF WAR Why, we might ask the prophet Zechariah today, would God want to banish chariots and horses? The answer follows: because they are used to violate God s reign of peace, along with the warrior s bow. In the days of Zechariah, chariots and horses were high-priced items used only for war-making. They were the aircraft carriers and nuclear missiles of his day. And for his culture, which thought of any king as being a military leader first and foremost, a king riding on a lowly beast of burden to proclaim peace without horses, chariots, and bows would have set his listeners topsy-turvy. This lowly, beast-riding king of peace, we believe, was fulfilled in Jesus, gentle and humble of heart. In a world torn by military strife often generated by differing religious views, and even in our own lives and homes where we are often at war over the tiniest things, we would do well to stop and consider to what degree we are willing to be like that king whose way of gentleness and humility is the way for us to find rest for our weary souls. La respuesta es: porque, junto al arco de los guerreros, se les usa para violar la paz del reino de Dios. En los días de Zacarías, carros y caballos eran bienes muy apreciados que se usaban sólo para hacer guerra. Eran los portaaviones y los misiles nucleares de hoy día. Y en esa cultura que consideraba que un rey era un jefe military primero que todo, un rey montado en un pobre asno para proclamar la paz, sin caballos ni carros ni arcos, hubiera causado gran revuelo entre su audiencia. Esa profecía del humilde rey de la paz, montado en un asno, nosotros creemos que se cumplió en Jesús, manso y humilde de corazón. En un mundo sacudido por la lucha militar, que frecuentemente es el resultado de divergentes creencias religiosas, y hasta nuestras propias vidas y hogares donde vamos a la guerra por la más mínima cosa, sería bueno que nos detuviéramos a pensar hasta que punto estamos dispuestos a ser como el rey que con su mansedumbre y humildad es el camino para que nosotros logremos encontrar descanso para nuestras almas. 9 June 19, 2014 Dear Most Holy Trinity Parents: We know you are anxious for information about your school and we hope that this communication reaches you in a timely manner. Last Monday we sent an to the school community acknowledging the fact that Mrs. Suarez is not returning to Most Holy Trinity School as principal for the next school year. We know this is a source of sadness for many of you. Mrs. Suarez brought many gifts to MHT especially the gift of building this wonderful community. It is very difficult to accept change and especially when the reasons cannot be disclosed due to confidentiality. Please know we recognize your need to know and we understand your frustration that we cannot discuss this matter. There have been no other faculty changes made to date. All current faculty members have been assured of my support for the next school year. Any new employees that Mrs. Suarez hired will also be honored. We know she always had our students in mind when she was hiring. All tuition scholarships that have been awarded will be honored. All the plans that have been made for the summer and fall will be presented to the incoming principal. Our summer BINGO program is in full force and if anyone is willing to help out please contact the school office and leave your name and contact information. A member of the community will reach out to you. We have heard there are rumors suggesting that the school is closing. This is not true. Most Holy Trinity School is not closing. Bishop McGrath is the only one who can close schools. There are no plans to close MHT. We know this to be a beautiful community of students and parents who want the best Catholic education for their children. Wednesday night Kathy Almazol and I met with the MHT School Advisory Board. We discussed this difficult situation with the Board including transition steps and the processes in place to select a principal that will best suit MHT. We invited three members of the MHT community to be on an interview panel: Chris Castelli from the School Advisory Board, Mark Beasly from the parent community and Colleen Ronchelli, a teacher. The Human Resources Department of the Diocese of San Jose facilitated the interview process. I join the above-named members as well as Kathy Almazol, Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Doyle, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Matt Cordes, Director of Drexel Schools on the interview panel. Thursday, June 19, 2014 the panel met with our recommended candidate. Chris Castelli could not make the meeting but Mark and Colleen were there. Colleen represented the teachers well and was prepared with many questions including the level of support this candidate would offer teachers and students as well as how she would bring her own spirituality to the faculty and community. Mark Beasly asked questions that all parents would be asking about safety and academic rigor and support of the families. The panel found the candidate to possess the necessary qualifications of an effective administrator and someone who would be a good fit with MHT s culture and community. As a result of this process Fr Bob has directed the Human Resources Department to make an offer of employment. When the candidate accepts the offer, we will send a letter of introduction to members of the MHT community. We realize that not knowing who the principal will be is difficult for you. We hope to complete this process quickly so you can finalize your school plans, making sure that the decision benefits the welfare of students and families of MHT. For an update see Fr. Bob's letter on page 4 Most Holy Trinity is a unique community of every student, every teacher, every parent and a collection of principals, teachers, parents, and students who have walked these halls and attended mass in our church. MHT will remain a loving and caring community of believers as it has for the past fifty years. We are grateful to all of you for keeping this spirit in the forefront of all decisions. Most Holy Trinity preschool accepts children from 3 years of age up to entry into kindergarten. Our program helps students learn their letters, numbers, and helps to improve on the student s fine motor and gross motor skills. In addition to these skills the teachers also help the students to develop the social skills needed before entering kindergarten. By bringing your child to preschool you are setting them up for a lifelong love of learning. Most Holy Trinity Preschool has a variety of program options to meet any family s needs. We offer care Monday Friday from 7am-6pm. You can enroll your child in a half day program, 8am-12pm, or a full day program, 8am-4pm. From 7am-8am and 4pm-6pm we offer an extended care program for the children. We also offer 5, 3, and 2 day a week care, to meet the needs of your family. The more you know about your family s health the better you and your doctors are able to assess individual risk. Talk to mom and pop. Find out more about your health risks by asking if there's a family history of: 1. Heart Disease Family history is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. (Others include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, inactivity and being overweight.) Ask your parents how many members of your family had heart problems, and how old they were when they had them 2. High Blood Pressure Family history influences your risk of high blood pressure, a condition with few warning signs. Younger adults should have their blood pressure checked every two years and annually over the age of 50. But, if you have a family history of cardiovascular problems, be sure to check yours more often. Overindulgence in alcohol, smoking, a high-salt diet and being overweight are other contributing factors. A 10-percent reduction of body weight can lower your risk and even reduce hypertension that's already there. 3. Diabetes This common disease can be a killer, and it is important to know your family history. So, if you've inherited a predisposition to the disease, maintaining a healthy weight and exercising may delay its development possibly forever.
