1 PROYECTO COMPARATIVO DE DIGITALIZACIÓN DE UN RODETE DE TURBOCOMPRESOR Y SU PRODUCCIÓN MEDIANTE FABRICACIÓN ADITIVA Autor: González Amado, Carlos Director: Fernández Villamarín, Silvia Entidad colaboradora: ICAI Universidad Pontificia Comillas RESUMEN DEL PROYECTO Debido a la larga vida útil que tienen muchas piezas del mundo de la ingeniería como los rodetes de un turbocompresor, los únicos datos que se almacenan en los archivos de las empresas son en papel y anticuados, en el caso de que aún se conserven. Si no se es una empresa fabricante, se opta por acudir a la fuente de la unidad, y estas compañías nunca entregan datos concretos del funcionamiento y mucho menos del diseño, que es todo de carácter confidencial, sino que aportan una aproximación de los rendimientos que se pueden llegar a conseguir, siempre y cuando todas las situaciones sean óptimas para su operación, que no suelen ser muy cercanas a las del mundo real.

2 A partir de esta idea, se abre como opción el empleo de la ingeniería inversa de cara a digitalizar las unidades, lo que posibilita la obtención de planos de las piezas, conocer su funcionamiento simulando las circunstancias que pueden acontecer e incluso rediseñar cada uno de los elementos para mejorar su rendimiento en funcionamiento. Como las técnicas de digitalización son diversas, este proyecto se centrará en la comparación de dos de ellas: digitalización por luz estructurada y digitalización por triangulación láser, ya que para el tamaño de la pieza a escanear y el nivel de detalle que se busca, estas son las mejores opciones. En ambos casos se sigue el mismo proceso. En primer lugar se prepara la pieza y la zona para el escaneado. Tras ello, se procede a la digitalización del rodete, lo que genera una nube de puntos de todos los datos obtenidos. Estos puntos se tratan mediante el programa GeoMagic, realizando una limpieza de los puntos aislados y sobrantes, reducción del ruido del 20% y eliminando algunos errores producidos a la hora de escanear. A continuación, se alinean los modelos obtenidos, uno para la parte frontal del rodete y otro para su parte trasera, de forma que su conjunto conforme de manera muy aproximada la estructura de la pieza.

3 Después de la alineación de las nubes de puntos, se transforman en una malla poligonal formada por triángulos, que hay que volver a tratar. Este tratamiento consistió en la eliminación de verticales, 20 % reducción del ruido de nuevo y llenado de huecos. Además cabe destacar que el hueco que hay en el rodete para su acoplamiento al eje se tapó en su entrada y su salida ya que la parte de estudio era la superficie exterior de la pieza. Tras la obtención de las mallas poligonales definitivas, estas mallas se exportan al programa GeoMagic Qualify. Ahí, se toma como referencia la malla obtenida mediante triangulación láser y como ensayo la obtenida mediante luz estructurada. El programa alinea ambos modelos y compara las desviaciones en cada uno de los puntos, cuyos valores representa en un rango de colores según su dimensión.

4 Así, se puede comprobar que la diferencia media entre ambos modelos corresponde fielmente a la diferencia entre los dispositivos según los fabricantes de cada uno de ellos, por lo que la decisión entre un tipo de digitalización y otro, reside principalmente en el detalle que se desee obtener de las piezas a escanear, siendo el brazo láser FARO Edge ScanArm el que obtiene una mejor calidad en su resultado. Por otro lado, para piezas que no necesiten de tanto detalle y que además no cuenten con superficies muy angulosas y de difícil acceso, con el escáner GeoMagic Capture sería más que suficiente.

5 COMPARATIVE PROJECT OF DIGITALIZATION OF A TURBOCOMPRESSOR S IMPELLER AND ITS PRODUCTION BY ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING Autor: González Amado, Carlos Director: Fernández Villamarín, Silvia Collaborating entity: ICAI Universidad Pontificia Comillas PROJECT ABSTRACT Due to long service life that many parts of the world of engineering have as for example the impeller of a turbocompressor, the only data that are stored in the registry of the companies are in paper and outdated, if they are still conserved. If a company is not manufacturer, one chooses to go to the source of the unit, and these companies never deliver concrete data performance and much less the design, that is all confidential, but provide an approximation of the behaviour that can be achieved, when situations are best for its working, which do not tend to be very close to the real world.

6 Based on this idea, the use of reverse engineering opens as an option to scan units, which allows obtaining the part drawings, know its performance simulating the circumstances that can happen and even redesign each one of the elements to improve the results on the ground. As digitization techniques are different, this project will focus on the comparison of two of them: structured light digitization and laser triangulation scanning, because these are the best techniques for the size of the part and the accuracy desired in the result. In both cases, the same process is followed. First prepares the piece and the area for scanning. After that, the digitization of the impeller comes, which generates a cloud of points of all the data obtained. These points are treated through the program GeoMagic, making a cleaning of the outliers and the isolated points, reduction the noise by 20% and eliminating some errors that occur at the time of scanning. Then the obtained models, one for the front part of the impeller and one for the back, are aligned so that together result, in a very approximate way, similar to the structure of the part.

7 After the alignment of the clouds of points, they are transformed into a polygonal mesh formed by triangles that must be treated. This treatment consists in elimination of spikes, noise reduction (again a 20% reduction) and filling of gaps. Also note that the hole that exist on the impeller where the shaft would be coupled is covered at its input and its output since the external surface was the only part to study. After obtaining the definitive polygonal meshes, these are exported to GeoMagic Qualify. There, the mesh obtained by laser triangulation is taken as reference and the one obtained through structured light is considered the test. The program aligns both models and compare the deviations from each of the points whose values are represented in a range of colors according to the dimension of them.

8 Thus, it can be checked that the average difference between the two models corresponds faithfully to the difference between the devices accuracy and precision according to the manufacturers of each of them, so the decision between choosing one type of digitization or the other lies primarily in the detail that is desired to scan parts, being the FARO Edge ScanArm the device that gives a better quality result. On the other hand, for parts that do not need so much detail and that also does not have very sharp-edged surfaces and/or difficult to access, GeoMagic Capture scanner would be more than good enough.
