2 Mrs. Collins s Corner Go forth and set the world on fire. St. Ignatius of Loyola Dear Saint Raphael Parents & Friends: I am learning to see people we tend to overlook, as people with developmental challenges or people without a home, rather than the developmentally disabled or the homeless. For me, it is such an eyeopener because it changes the way I talk to them and perceive them. It helps me be better. a Saint Raphael graduate. Do you remember the word magis at Back to School Night? I am reminded of it as I spend the long weekend at Gonzaga University, a Jesuit university. It is a word at the heart of Jesuit education as they began Jesuit universities throughout the world centuries ago; magis ---to be more, not in a selfish sense, but to be better for others, all for the greater glory of God. I use magis as my desire for our children to learn more. I use it as I call teachers to be more in the classroom. And I use it as my invitation to parents to be more for their children by partnering with us in helping them to be better for God and others. So it is heartening to see Saint Raphael graduates (and there are a number of them) learning to see the world differently, to reach out to those that society tends to overlook, and to consider how they might make a difference in this world. Family Math Night was a wonderful success thanks to the children, parents, and teachers that came together last Thursday evening. We can play simple games with our children and not only practice foundational math skills, but build stronger families! Please come to the PTG meeting on Wednesday, October 12, at 6:15 pm to learn more about navigating through School Speak. We have only just begun to tap into the full potential of this new database. We can learn so much more about it with patience and by helping each other. The computer lab will be open for those having difficulty logging into School Speak on Tuesday, 7:15-7:45 am; Wednesday, 7:15-7:45 am; and Wednesday, 5:30 6:15 pm. Please call the office to let us know if you are coming to one of these computer times. Have you signed up to help at the Halloween Festival, on October 29? Every family should consider volunteering for 2 hours. Many hands make it a success! San Ignacio de Loyola Estimados Padres de San Rafael y Amigos: "Estoy aprendiendo a ver a las personas marginadas en el mundo diferente, no solo como las personas con problemas de desarrollo o personas sin hogar. Para mí, es una revelación tal porque cambia la forma de hablar con ellos y como yo los percibo. Me ayuda a ser mejor "-. Graduó de la escuela de San Rafael. Recuerdas la palabra "magis" en la noche del regreso a la escuela? Me acuerdo de esa palabra ya que me paso el fin de semana en la Universidad de Gonzaga, una universidad de los Jesuitas. Es una palabra en el centro de educación de los Jesuitas, ya que comenzó universidades de la Compañía en todo el mundo hace siglos; "Magis" --- que es "más", no en un sentido egoísta, pero "ser mejor para los demás," todo para la mayor gloria de Dios. Yo uso "magis" como mi deseo de que nuestros hijos aprendan "más". Yo también lo uso como una llamada a los maestros a ser "más" en el aula. Y lo uso como mi invitación a los padres a ser "más" para sus hijos al asociarse con nosotros para ayudar a ellos "a ser mejor para Dios y los demás." Por lo tanto, es alentador ver graduados de Saint Raphael (y hay muchos) aprendiendo a ver el mundo de otra manera, para llegar a los que la sociedad tiende a pasar por alto, y considerar cómo podrían hacer una diferencia en este mundo. La noche de Matemáticas fue un maravilloso éxito gracias a los niños, padres y maestros que se reunieron el pasado jueves por la noche. Podemos "jugar" juegos simples con nuestros hijos y no sólo para practicar las habilidades matemáticas fundamentales, pero también para construir familias fuertes! Por favor, venga a la junta del PTG el miércoles 12 de octubre a las 6:15 pm para aprender más sobre la navegación a través de la School Speak. Apenas hemos comenzado a aprovechar todo el potencial de esta nueva base de datos. Podemos aprender mucho más sobre él con paciencia y ayudando a los demás. El laboratorio de computación estará abierto para aquellos que tienen dificultades para ingresar en School Speak el martes, 7: 15-7: 45 am; Miércoles, 7: 15-7: 45 am; y miércoles, 5:30-18:15. Ha firmado para ayudar en el Festival de Halloween, el 29 de octubre? Cada familia debe considerar como voluntario para 2 horas. Muchas manos hacen que sea un éxito! Ojala que Dios nos ayude a llevar a nuestro hijo/a a ser la persona que fuera creado a ser; ojala que podemos ayudar a nuestro hijo/a a ser "mejor, por Dios y por los demás." 7 WALK FOR THE POOR Saturday, October 22 nd Come and join St. Raphael School students and Parishioners! We will walk to raise awareness for San Rafael s less fortunate. The day will go as follows: 8:30am Mass in the Mission 9:00am Walk starts on the steps of the Church 10:00am Walk ends back at St. Raphael Church Please bring a can of food for St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry
