4 Around our Parish and Diocese Date: June 26-30, 2017 The camp is open to rising Freshmen in high school to Freshmen in college. Launching the first annual Duc In Altum Retreat for young women in our diocese, our desire is to bring these young women into the School of our Lady and a fervent prayer life by leading them deeper into an understanding of their present vocations as Daughter - Daughter of God, Daughter of Mary, and Daughter of the Church. Quo Vadis Days is a five-day vocations discernment camp for young men at Belmont Abbey College. The camp includes talks by local priests, seminarians, and others on the vocations to the priesthood, marriage, and fatherhood. Ultimately, the goal of our Quo Vadis Days is to challenge young men to ask the fundamental question quo vadis or where are you going?, while equipping them with the tools and opportunity to discern God s will for their life. 5 Around our Parish and School Kindergarten students worked with partners, measuring a variety of items with cubes, and then converting the measurement to inches. Students shared their findings and discussed the differences in the items, reviewing addition and subtraction concepts. Ms. Clark's class testing out hypothesis and creating structures based on measure and engineering.

Los antiguos griegos fueron los primeros en celebrarlo para honrar y brindar honores a la diosa Rhea, madre de los dioses Zeus, Poseidón, Hades y otros. Los griegos pasaron la tradición a los romanos, y los romanos la introdujeron al cristianismo adaptándola para celebrar y brindar honores a la madre de Jesús, la Virgen María. Los cristianos se encargaron luego de difundirla en todas partes del mundo. En Estados Unidos esta celebración fue impulsada por Anna Jervis a principios del siglo veinte. El día de las madres se celebra en diferentes fechas del año según el país. Panamá, por ejemplo, escogió el día 8 de diciembre, día de la Inmaculada Concepción, y Costa Rica el día de la Ascensión de María, 15 de agosto, como día de las madres. La mayoría de países celebran a las madres en diferentes fechas de mayo. Las celebraciones del día de la madre siempre hacen mención del amor abnegado de una madre. Muestras de afecto, flores, regalos, poemas, música, danzas, comida, etc. son algunas de las cosas utilizadas para brindar honor al ser que nos regaló el derecho de vivir en esta vida. La imagen de madre que predomina en la mente y el corazón de la mayoría de las personas es aquella de generosidad, abnegación, amor, aceptación y perdón. El amor de una madre es el que más se parece al amor incondicional con que Dios nos ama. Personalmente, me es difícil pensar en mi madre, sin pensar en sus besos; en sus abrazos; en sus palabras impregnadas de sabiduría, respeto y prudencia; en sus manos tiernas y frágiles, que a los 77 años continúan repartiendo caricias; en sus palabras Oh madre... por ti sé lo que es el cielo, por ti creo que existe el amor. Cielo es tu regazo materno, y tu abrazo el abrazo de Dios. Dios, dador de toda vida, crea una nueva vida en el vientre de la madre. La madre presta a Dios su cuerpo para que este regalo de Dios a la humanidad se realice. Al mismo tiempo, Dios transforma a la madre en fuente de todos los valores espirituales para que fluyan al hijo, desde el momento de la concepción hasta el momento en que la madre se una nuevamente con Dios. De ella el hijo aprende acerca de Dios y todo lo que tiene que ver con Él. Es de la madre que el ser humano aprende a amar, a perdonar, a esperar, a confiar, a aceptar, a salir de sí e ir en pos del otro. Una de las tareas más importantes y trascendentes de la madre es enseñar y transmitir esos valores trascendentes y espirituales al hijo. La tarea de la madre, no es diferente a la tarea de la Madre de Jesús. María dijo sí al anuncio del Ángel. María dijo sí a la maternidad. María dijo sí al compromiso y al amor abnegado. María dijo sí al sacrificio que implica prestar a Dios su vientre, para que la semilla de Su Hijo, Jesús, pudiera nacer a este mundo. María es, ciertamente, el ejemplo perfecto y simbólico de toda madre. Pero a la par de esa madre modelo está un esposo modelo, José. Dios pudo realizar su plan para el mundo por medio de María, porque José, creyó, amó y respetó a María. Hoy día, hay una necesidad urgente de que la mujer crea en lo importante que es para la comunidad, para la sociedad y para el mundo. Pero también hay una necesidad urgente de que el hombre se fije en José,

Oración introductoria Señor, sosteniéndome con tu gracia me das la vida y, porque me amas, quieres mostrarme el camino, la verdad y el estilo de vida que me puede llevar a la felicidad. Ilumina mi oración, aparta la distracción para que pueda experimentar tu presencia y tu cercanía. Petición Jesús, quiero ser dócil a tus inspiraciones, ilumíname! Él, camino, verdad y vida. Reflexión Cuando alguien ama a una persona y la ve en problemas, lo primero que le viene a la mente es: "no te preocupes, yo te ayudaré" Cuánta alegría siente el corazón, al escuchar estas palabras? Mucha paz da que el hombre sienta el apoyo de aquel que ama, además porque se nos presenta como una ayuda querida. Esto es lo mismo que Cristo ha visto en sus discípulos. "No se turbe vuestro corazón", les ha dicho y continúa a decírnoslo cada día. Él es la Paz, la Bondad, la Felicidad. Él nos dará los consuelos necesarios en los momentos de mayores dificultades en nuestra vida. Meditación del Papa Francisco Hoy me quiero centrar en la acción que el Espíritu Santo realiza en la guía de la Iglesia y de cada uno de nosotros a la Verdad. Jesús mismo dice a sus discípulos: el Espíritu Santo "les guiará en toda la verdad", siendo él mismo "el Espíritu de la Verdad". Vivimos en una época en la que se es más bien escéptico con respecto a la verdad. Benedicto XVI ha hablado muchas veces de relativismo, es decir, la tendencia a creer que no hay nada definitivo, y a pensar que la verdad está dada por el consenso general o por lo que nosotros queremos. Surge la pregunta: existe realmente "la" verdad? Qué es "la" verdad? Podemos conocerla? Podemos encontrarla? Aquí me viene a la memoria la pregunta del procurador romano Poncio Pilato cuando Jesús le revela el sentido profundo de su misión: " Qué es la verdad?". Pilato no llega a entender que "la" Verdad está frente a él, no es capaz de ver en Jesús el rostro de la verdad, que es el rostro de Dios. Y sin embargo, Jesús es esto: la Verdad, la cual, en la plenitud de los tiempos, "se hizo carne", que vino entre nosotros para que la conociéramos. La verdad no se aferra como una cosa, la verdad se encuentra. No es una posesión, es un encuentro con una Persona. Comunicar el amor misericordioso del Señor. Esta es nuestra misión! También a nosotros nos han dado la lengua del Evangelio y el fuego del Espíritu Santo, porque mientras anunciamos a Cristo resucitado, vivo y presente en medio de nosotros, calentamos el corazón de los pueblos acercándoles a Cristo quiere que le pidamos la gracia de la paz del alma, de la tranquilidad de la vida, de la sencillez con la que viven los niños, despreocupados de todo, metidos sólo en lo que están haciendo en ese momento. Las dificultades se presentarán, pero si tenemos a Cristo, que es la Paz, será más fácil sobrellevarlas. Vivamos con la sencillez de quien sabe que todo lo recibe de Aquél a quien ama, y le cuida en todo momento. Diálogo con Cristo No soy católico por seguir unos mandamientos o creer en una doctrina, sino por seguir a una persona, que me ama. Jesús, quiero ocupar esa habitación que con tanto amor has preparado para mí. No permitas que sea indiferente a esta maravillosa verdad. Ayúdame a permanecer siempre cerca de Ti, por la
