Ocasio CHRIST OUR PASSOVER IS RISEN Christians are called to be "witnesses of hope" in the midst of the world around us. The Gospel mentions various attitudes before the empty tomb: that of the beloved disciple who "saw and believed" is the only one that allows the opening to hope that Christ has risen One of the fundamental questions of all human existence is knowing what to expect or where to put one's hope for the future. And above all, if possible, a hope that opens the door of the human heart beyond the threshold of death. This problem practically crosses the humanity from its very beginnings and corresponds to a natural demand of the human being to the survival beyond the corporeal corruption of the human compound. Does man satisfy mere survival in the memory of others, in a higher world, spiritual and impersonal? Does man satisfy the mere immortality of the soul? The truth is that the individual soul already lacks something without the body and the body ceases to be such without reference to the soul. The magnificent and original coexistence in which they have lived in a human being with name and surname, they want to prolong it in the future life. Here the Christian faith enters fully and puts before us the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is to say, there is one in whom the psychic-somatic coexistence, broken by death, is prolonged in eternity through the resurrection. That one is Jesus Christ. That is why the risen Christ is the only one who can give a solid, immovable, sure foundation to our hope. Witnesses of the resurrection, witnesses of hope. It is true that the true witnesses are men, not objects. However, it is not wrong to say that the empty tomb gives us a testimony, well that imperfect, of the resurrection and Christian hope. His testimony is ambiguous, because the fact of being empty can receive other explanations, but there is no doubt that one of them, the most plausible for those who have lived with Jesus and have heard his teachings, is the resurrection. Many will give a wrong interpretation to the testimony of the tomb, in the style of Mary Magdalene: "They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have placed him"; many others, like Peter, before such testimony, will adopt the attitude of a notary who with cold objectivity certifies the fact: "He entered the tomb, and verified that the linen bandages were there..." But there will also be many others who, like John, not only certify the fact, but "see and believe, as you understand the Scripture, according to which Jesus had to rise from the dead." This testimony of the empty tomb is for all a testimony of hope. There will come a day, only known by God, in which the bodies will resurrect and coexist again in an eternal and joyful embrace with their soul. In life men have many small hopes. They are legitimate, good, but poor, very partial and incomplete hopes. We hope to live a long life and see what the world will be like in forty, fifty years. We hope to find a good and well-paid job. We hope, if we are young, to have the necessary money to buy the apartment or the new car. We hope that the children grow up healthy, carry out their studies well, behave always well at home. We hope that we will play the lottery or the pool, or that our favorite football or baseball team will win. We hope... Yes, man is a being born to wait. What happens is that all those little hopes, or not achieved, and then we are disappointed, or once we get them, do not satisfy our capacity for hope and refer us to other new and ephemeral hopes, such as those already achieved. Only God can fully satisfy all our capacity for hope, here already in this world in which we live and work, and in life after death in which we will see it as it is and we will love it with our whole being. We know that he does not disappoint us, because he is God and his name is the Faithful. But also, by faith, we are certain that he does not disappoint because Jesus Christ, risen, has entered into eternity with his human nature and lives the experience of a transmuted hope in untold union and love with God, his Father.

4 Page 4 Easter Sunday April 1, 2018 CRISTO NUESTRA PASCUA HA RESUCITADO Los cristianos estamos llamados a ser "testigos de esperanza" en medio del mundo que nos rodea. El evangelio menciona diversas actitudes ante el sepulcro vacío: la del discípulo amado que "vio y creyó" es la única que permite la apertura a la esperanza de que Cristo haya resucitado Una de las cuestiones fundamentales de toda existencia humana es saber qué se puede esperar o dónde poner la propia esperanza de cara al futuro. Y sobre todo, si es posible una esperanza que abra la puerta del corazón humano más allá del umbral de la muerte. Este problema recorre prácticamente la humanidad desde sus mismos inicios y corresponde a una exigencia natural del ser humano a la supervivencia más allá de la corrupción corporal del compuesto humano. Satisface al hombre la sola supervivencia en el recuerdo de los demás, en un mundo superior, espiritual e impersonal? Satisface al hombre la mera inmortalidad del alma? La verdad es que al alma individual ya le falta algo sin el cuerpo y el cuerpo deja de ser tal sin referencia al alma. La magnífica y original convivencia en que han vivido en un ser humano con nombre y apellidos, la quieren prolongar en la vida futura. Aquí entra de lleno la fe cristiana y nos pone ante los ojos la resurrección de Jesucristo. Es decir, hay uno en quien la convivencia psíquico-somática, quebrantada por la muerte, se prolonga en la eternidad mediante la resurrección. Ese uno es Jesucristo. Por eso, Cristo resucitado es el único que puede dar fundamento sólido, inamovible, seguro a nuestra esperanza. Testigos de la resurrección, testigos de esperanza. Es verdad que los verdaderos testigos son los hombres, no los objetos. Sin embargo, no es equivocado afirmar que el sepulcro vacío nos da un testimonio, bien que imperfecto, de la resurrección y de la esperanza cristiana. Su testimonio es ambiguo, porque el hecho de estar vacío puede recibir otras explicaciones, pero no cabe duda que una de ellas, la más plausible para quienes han vivido con Jesús y han escuchado sus enseñanzas, es la resurrección. Muchos darán una interpretación equivocada al testimonio del sepulcro, al estilo de María Magdalena: "Se han llevado del sepulcro al Señor, y no sabemos dónde lo han puesto"; otros muchos, como Pedro, ante tal testimonio, adoptarán la actitud de notario que con fría objetividad certifica el hecho: "Entró en el sepulcro, y comprobó que las vendas de lino estaban allí..." Pero habrá también otros muchos que, como Juan, no sólo certifiquen el hecho, sino que "vean y crean, al entender la Escritura, según la cual Jesús tenía que resucitar de entre los muertos". Este testimonio del sepulcro vacío es para todos un testimonio de esperanza. Llegará un día, sólo conocido por Dios, en que los cuerpos resucitarán y convivirán de nuevo en un eterno y gozoso abrazo con su alma. En la vida los hombres tenemos muchas pequeñas esperanzas. Son esperanzas legítimas, buenas, pero pobres, muy parciales e incompletas. Esperamos vivir una vida larga y ver cómo será el mundo dentro de cuarenta, cincuenta años. Esperamos encontrar un trabajo bueno y bien remunerado. Esperamos, si somos jóvenes, tener el dinero necesario para comprar el propio apartamento o el coche nuevo. Esperamos que los niños crezcan sanos, lleven bien sus estudios, se comporten siempre bien en casa. Esperamos que nos toque la lotería o la quiniela, o que venza nuestro equipo favorito de fútbol o de béisbol. Esperamos... Sí, el hombre es un ser nacido para esperar. Lo que sucede es que todas esas pequeñas esperanzas, o no las logramos, y entonces quedamos defraudados, o una vez que las conseguimos, no satisfacen nuestra capacidad de esperanza y nos remiten a otras nuevas y efímeras esperanzas, como las ya alcanzadas. Sólo Dios puede satisfacer plenamente toda nuestra capacidad de esperanza, aquí ya en este mundo en el que vivimos y trabajamos, y en la vida después de la muerte en que lo veremos tal cual es y lo amaremos con todo nuestro ser. Sabemos que no nos defrauda, porque es Dios y su nombre es el Fiel. Pero además, por la fe, estamos ciertos que no defrauda porque Jesucristo, resucitado, ha entrado en la eternidad con su naturaleza humana y vive la experiencia de una esperanza transmutada en unión y amor indecibles con Dios, su Padre.
