2 Health Note November is American Diabetes Month and we are joining America Gets Cooking SM to Stop Diabetes, to inspire families to live a more active and healthier lifestyle. For many, with year-end comes the holidays. It s the time for family-time and for enjoying great tasting foods. A challenge, if you are trying to control your diabetes or prevent pre-diabetes, but not impossible, if you prepare! So let s prepare to celebrate healthfully! 1st: Don t starve yourself until dinner time. Prepare a healthy breakfast as a special treat for you and the family. And, if you are joining others at dinner time for a celebration, then eat lunch or have a snack in the afternoon as well. This will prevent you from being too hungry by dinner time and then overeating. 2nd: Be the good chef! Make your dish the healthy option for everyone. Skip the ingredients high in saturated fat and salt (sodium). Instead, plan and select foods that are good for you before you start cooking. Here are some examples: For Use Instead of fl avor chicken broth butter topping sliced toasted almonds fried onions consistency Greek yogurt sour cream baking skim milk evaporated milk 3rd: Indulge wisely and enjoy a colorful plate! Fill up ½ your plate with vegetables such as carrots and green beans. If your options on veggies are low, consider adding fruit to this half of your plate. Cranberries, baked apples and pears are all good options. Fill ¼ of your plate with starches such as corn pudding, rice pilaf, mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes. Skip the bread or rolls! Fill ¼ of your plate with lean turkey, fi sh or chicken. And, instead of gravy use a fruit-based relish or salsa! Take them regularly and exercise and stay active for a healthy mind and strong bones and muscles. Visit for daily tips! 1

Un reto, si está tratando de controlar la diabetes o tratando de prevenir la prediabetes. Pero no imposible, si se prepara! A prepararnos entonces, para comenzar las fiestas bien y celebrar sanamente! 1ro: No se espere a comer hasta la hora de la cena. Prepárese un desayuno saludable y especial para usted y su familia. Si planea celebrar hasta la hora de la cena, almuerce o coma una merienda antes de la hora para evitar comer de más. 2do: Sea un buen chef! Haga que su platillo sea la opción saludable para todos. Pase por alto los ingredientes altos en grasa saturada y sal (sodio). Planee y elija ingredientes saludables antes de comenzar a cocinar. Tal como: Para Use En vez de sabor caldo de pollo mantequilla decoración almendras en rebanadas, tostaditas cebollas fritas consistencia yogur Griego crema agria/fresca hornear leche sin grasa leche evaporada 3ro: Goce a buena conciencia y disfrute de un platillo con mucho color! Sírvase hasta la mitad del plato con verduras tales como zanahoria y ejote. Si hay pocas opciones de verduras, considere agregar fruta a esta parte de su plato. Los arándanos, manzana horneada o pera son buenas opciones. Sírvase hasta en un ¼ del plato, almidón como pudin de elote, arroz, papa molida o camote. Pase por alto el pan y el bolillo! Sírvase hasta en un ¼ del plato, pavo, pescado o pollo. Elija salsas de fruta o verdura fresca, en lugar de jugo de carne.
