The Church makes a distinction between sanctifying grace and actual grace. Sanctifying grace is the gratuitousgift that god gives us to make us participants in his Trinitarian life (Compendium, 423). It is the permanent disposition (quality, or condition) to live and act in keeping with God s call. Dear Parishioners, Please welcome seminarian Alex Hernandez who will be serving here at Guadalupe during this year as part of his pastoral formation. Alex is a seminarian for the diocese of Knoxville, TN. His parents come from Puerto Rico and Alex speaks fluently both Spanish and English. Our new seminarian will be here at the parish on Sundays to help with various ministries and to get to know our parishioners. 4 Parish News CHANGE IN MASS TIME We are going to add an evening mass one day a week. We realize that some people may want to come to mass but cannot make 8:00 a.m. The mass will be on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Because we are having mass at 6:30 p.m., the 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday will be cancelled. Perpetual Help Devotions will be prayed at 6:15 p.m. This change will begin on September 1st. We hope that this will allow for more of our parishioners to attend mass during the week. We have many meetings on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m. The mass will be over for these meetings to start on time. Hopefully those attending the meetings, may want to begin with attending mass at 6:30 p.m. We hope that this change will allow us to have more people attend Eucharist. We also invite any comments you may have regarding the change. Have a Heart to Heart with God Prayer is a conversation with God that involves speaking and listening. St Ignatius offers us several different ways to pray. In this talk, we will explore the 'Examen' prayer. The Examen is a way to look back on my day [or week, or month] with gratitude. It is a simple, effective, 'heart to Heart' talk with the Lord Jesus. We will take time to do the Examen during our evening session together. We will also look at how to use the Examen with family members, and in our parish. 5 NEWS FROM OLG SCHOOL *** We are having a GREAT school year so far! Our students are working hard, helping one another, and cooperating with our staff. We are so proud of them. We are having full days as of this week. A full day means recess and lunch for everyone. We are blessed to have a great team of ladies who take excellent care of our children each day on the playground. Mrs. Barbara Aiken, Ms. Kelly Eggers, Ms. Mary McKeirnan, and Mrs. Michele O Rourke truly know how to have fun at RECESS! We have balls, jump ropes, dolls, and lots of other fun things to help the children learn how to play fairly and safely. When recess is over, we enter the cafeteria to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared each day by Mrs. Janet Funicelli. Our lunches are planned and prepared according to the USDA guidelines. Mrs. Funicelli is assisted each day by several of our older students who help with serving and clean-up. She is also assisted each day by Mr. Tim Funicelli who volunteers his time and talents to help keep our kitchen clean and well-organized. Our Lady of Guadalupe is a parish and school where all of us work together to make things happy, pleasant, and effective for our children. May God continue to bless us with dedicated staff members and volunteers who LOVE our children. *** Be sure to notice the beautiful work that our teachers have displayed in our hallways. We have LOTS of talented artists and serious students wo come to school each day ready to learn! 7 Querido Pueblo de Dios, Démosle la bienvenida al seminarista Alex Hernández que ha sido asignado aquí para servir la parroquia de Guadalupe durante este año como parte de su formación pastoral. Alex es un seminarista de la diócesis de Knoxville, TN. Sus padres vienen de Puerto Rico y Alex habla español con fluidez. Nuestro nuevo seminarista estará aquí en la parroquia los domingos para ayudar con diversos ministerios y para conocer a nuestros feligreses. Estoy agradecido de que Alex será una parte de nuestra comunidad y estoy seguro de que van a hacer que se sienta a casa aquí. Padre John Noticia Parroquial CAMBIO EN EL TIEMPO DE LAS MISAS Vamos a añadir una Misa por la noche un día a la semana. Nos damos cuenta de que algunas personas quieren y pueden r venir a Misa, pero no pueden hacerlo a las 8:00 a.m. La Misa será el martes a las 6:30 pm. Debido a que estamos teniendo una Misa a las 6:30 pm, la Misa de las 8:00 am del martes será cancelada. La Devoción a la Virgen del Perpetuo Socorro se hará a las 6:15 pm, este cambio comenzará el 1ro de septiembre. Esperamos que esto permita que más de nuestros feligreses vengan a Misa durante la semana. Tenemos varias reuniones el martes comenzando a las, la Misa terminara a las 7:00pm en punto, para que las reuniones empiecen a tiempo. Esperemos que los asistentes a las reuniones, puedan y deseen comenzar asistiendo a la Misa de 6:30 pm. Esperamos que este cambio permita que vengan más personas a la Eucaristía. También invitamos a cualquier comentario que usted pueda tener con relación al cambio.
