7 FOREWORD 7 Foreword The education sector has come to play an increasingly important role in the European Union development cooperation policies with third countries. This is particularly the case with Latin America, where higher education cooperation is considered one of the main priorities. In this context, The European Community high level scholarship programme, Alban, enables graduates and young professionals from Latin America to pursue postgraduate studies in more than 400 universities from 27 European Union member states. Since its establishment in 2002, until the last call for proposals in 2006, the programme has flourished and grown, selecting 3319 Latin American students who have pursued studies of aster, Doctorate and advanced specialisation training, fulfilling their goal of making a difference while gaining expertise to the benefit of their country. A significant number of those awarded a scholarship received high assessment rankings from leading European Universities renowned for their intellectual vibrancy and diversity. The programme can rightly pride itself on attaining its objectives to provide material and intellectual support as well as skills that will undoubtedly contribute to further development across the region. During the academic year a total of 184 student projects were completed; most of them were described in the first volume of this series, highly praised by students and those involved in their achievements. The following academic year, , witnessed an increase to 253 of such projects, most of which are presented in this second volume. I trust that this second publication will constitute a significant contribution to the dissemination of so many relevant projects on a broad range of subject areas, acknowledging the particular importance of fortifying a solid and well-rounded education for the youth of Latin America.. 9 INTRODUCTION 9 Introduction In 2002 the European Commission adopted AlBan, a high level scholarship programme specifically addressed to Latin America. The Programme AlBan aims at the reinforcement of the European Union-Latin America cooperation in the area of Higher Education and covers postgraduate studies as well as higher level training for Latin America students and professionals in the European Union. The Programme AlBan awards scholarships to Latin American citizens, from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, exico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, to develop postgraduate studies, professional training or upgrading, in any of the European Union ember States (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, alta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom). Five Calls for Applications were opened annually for the academic years 2003/2004 through 2007/2008. ore than twenty thousand applications were received along the five Calls. Applicants for AlBan scholarships are required to be supported by a higher education institution in their home country and must have been accepted for higher level education or training by another higher education institution or training centre in the European Union. The Portal AlBan ( programalban.org) contains all the details and is the major information source about Programme AlBan. This publication is the second of the series describing the projects completed in the European Union by Latin American students under the auspices of an AlBan Scholarship. In the preparation of this volume, all the 254 grantees that finished their scholarship before between the 1 st August 2005 and the 31 st July 2006 were invited to submit an abstract of their work in Europe. In the end, 173 projects are described in the publication, organised in five major subject areas: (i) Art and Humanities, (ii) Engineering and Architecture, (iii) Exact and Natural Science, (iv) edical Science and (v) Social Science and Law. 13 ART AND HUANITIES 13 ADRIANO CANABARRO TEIXEIRA BR Teaching Formation and Digital Inclusion: the analysis of the technological emersion process of professors Formação Docente e Inclusão Digital: a análise do processo de emersão tecnológica de professores ALBAN CODE E04D047495BR We start from reflections concerning the implications and the potentialities of the situation of generalized connection instituted in the modern society, of the recognition of a globalization process that tends to the formatting of the net technologies to the technologies of access to the individuals and of the existence of an education model that, when ignoring the potential of the net technologies and its underlying logic, prints in the individuals the mark of the passivity, the upright and the reproduction. It points to the urgency of politician-conceptual magnifying of the processes of digital inclusion, whose base is the creation of a net culture. From this context, this thesis describes the process of analysis of the project of Technological Emersion of Professors, carried through next to a group of students of the courses of Teacher Formation in the University of Passo Fundo in the year of Inside a proposal of participant research, it consisted in an experience of teaching training based in the logic of the nets. The development of this experience supplies the subsidies to the analysis of its possible contribution to the construction of an equivalent culture and its relevancy as theoretician-conceptual base of proposals in the area of educative computer science. EDUCATION, TEACHER TRAINING D UNIVERSIDADE DE ROA TRÊS IT LABORATÓRIO DE TECNOLOGIAS AUDIOVISIVAS ROBERTO ARAGLIANO A partir de reflexões acerca das implicações e das potencialidades da situação de conexão generalizada instituída na sociedade moderna, do reconhecimento de um processo de globalização que tende à formatação das tecnologias de rede a tecnologias de acesso aos indivíduos e da existência de um modelo de educação que, ao ignorar o potencial das tecnologias de rede e sua lógica subjacente, imprime aos indivíduos a marca da passividade, da verticalidade e da reprodução, aponta-se para a urgência de ampliação político-conceitual dos processos de inclusão digital, cuja base é a criação de uma cultura de rede. A partir dessa contextualização, esta tese relata o processo de análise do projeto de Emersão Tecnológica de Professores, realizado junto a um grupo de alunos dos cursos de licenciatura da Universidade de Passo Fundo no ano de Dentro de uma proposta de pesquisa participante, constituiu-se em uma experiência de formação docente baseada na lógica das redes. O desenvolvimento desta experiência fornece subsídios à análise de sua possível contribuição para a construção de uma cultura equivalente e sua pertinência como base teórico-conceitual de propostas na área de informática educativa. The objective of my A dissertation entitled The female outsider as subject of confinement. Analysis of Annabel in Angela Carter s Love and the ilagrosa in Carmen Boullosa s The iracle-worker was to analyse and discuss the literary representations of confinement, madness, sexuality and love through the characterisation of the main female protagonists of two novels written by contemporary female writers: Love by Angela Carter and The iracle-worker by Carmen Boullosa to establish them as common features of the literary figure of the female outsider. 15 ART AND HUANITIES 15 ANA CAROLINA RICCI AR Assisting Families Whose Children Suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorders: a guide for the parents Apoyando Familias de Niños con Trastornos del Espectro de Autismo: una guía para los padres ALBAN CODE E AR This is a qualitative analysis with a general objective of producing a supportive document in order to help parents whose children suffer from autism, thus making the introduction of improvements in interaction between parents and children possible. To obtain the required information I have carried out a series of semistructured interviews with parents. As a result of analyzing these interviews it has been possible to construct a written guide for parents. This guide consists of a series of games appropriate for the whole family to take part in. These are grouped into three categories: (1) Games that are focused on improving contact with others (social interaction); (2) Games which are aimed at improving communication and language; and (3) Games which are designed to benefit the child s imagination. All of the above proposed games are simple and can be performed daily. They have been aimed at parents with children with autism -specifically autism disorder- in preschool and school years. SPECIAL EDUCATION UNIVERSIDAD DE DEUSTO ES FACULTAD DE FILOSOFÍA Y CIENCIAS DE LA EDUCACIÓN DR. DELFÍN ONTERO CENTENO Esta es una investigación cualitativa, cuyo objetivo general es elaborar un documento de apoyo dirigido a padres de niños/as con autismo, posibilitando la introducción de mejoras en la interacción entre ambos. Para la recogida de la información, he recurrido al empleo de entrevistas semi-estructuradas a padres. Una vez analizadas, el resultado ha sido la escritura de una guía para padres que consta de una serie de juegos para jugar en familia, agrupados en tres bloques: 1) juegos que favorecen el contacto con los demás (interacción social); 2) juegos que favorecen la comunicación y el lenguaje; y 3) juegos que favorecen la imaginación. Todas las propuestas son simples, sencillas, cotidianas. Está dirigida a padres de niños/a con autismo -Trastorno autista específicamente- en edad infantil y primaria. Esta investigación ha permitido mi acercamiento a las familias de niños/as con autismo y el reto es seguir intentando acercarme a ellos, escuchándolos y comprendiéndolos. At the moment three groups are known, Umbu Tradition (9000 to 1200 years B.P), Coastal Sambaquis (8000 to 1000 years B.P.) and the Riverine Sambaquis (9000 to 1200 years B.P.) The Umbu group as the riverine one is located at the valleys between inland and coastal zones. Hunter-gatherers from the Atlantic forest escarps have been subject of new archaeological research in the south of São Paulo through the investigation of 35 riverine shellmounds since The first results point to the settlement of many hunter-gatherers groups in this area during a long period of time (7000 years B.P). The maintenance of the same kind of site, during thousand of years in the same region (2 areas: Itaoca and Bacia do Rio Jacupiranguinha), led some archaeologists to think about an integrated settlement system (De Blasis, 1988). ANTONIO HEITOR EIRAS GARCIA, 366, APTO 73 SAO PAULO BR TELEPHONE E-AIL clauplens@uol.com.br Evidências arqueológicas demonstram que a ata Atlântica, na região sul-sudeste do Brasil, abrigou caçadores-coletores durante o Holoceno, sendo conhecidos, até o momento, três grupos: Tradição Umbu (9000 a 1200 anos a.p.), sambaquis litorâneos (8000 a 1000 anos a.p.) e concheiros ou sambaquis fluviais (9000 a 1200 anos a.p.). Nos vales localizados entre o interior e o litoral paulista são conhecidos os grupos Umbu e Fluviais. Caçadores-coletores do ambiente serrano da ata Atlântica foram tema de recente pesquisa no sul de São Paulo através da investigação de 35 sítios do tipo sambaqui fluvial, que aponta para a permanência de grande número de grupos de caçadores-coletores nessa região por um longo período de tempo (7000 anos). A permanência desse tipo de sítio ao longo de milênios associado ao fato da sua localização se restringir a apenas duas regiões, Itaoca e bacia do rio Jacupiranguinha, levou alguns pesquisadores a pensar num sistema integrado de assentamento (DeBlasis, 1988).

19 ART AND HUANITIES 19 CONSTANZA CRISTINA RUIZ DANEGGER AR Éducation Scientifique: du lycée a l université Educación Científica: de la secundaria a la universidad ALBAN CODE E04D047523AR Dans ce travail on étude la influence de l éducation à la formation des styles cognitifs de domaine, a travers la problématisation de étudiants de physique (sciences) et ingénierie (technologie) à divers degrés. «Problématisation» est la capacité de représentation des situations, vue d après Dewey comme «intellectualisation de la difficulté ou perplexité sentie dans un problème qui l on dois résoudre» ; on s appelle «styles cognitifs de domaine» au ensemble des processus de acquisition et génération de connaissance propres de la physique et de l ingénierie. On s y utilise instruments neufs car il y avait des études théoriques et descriptifs mais pas de expérimentation sur ce sujet. L évidence disponible laisse supposer qu il y a des différences entre les divers domaines au degré de problématicité et d explicitation, à la gestion, et aux buts de l action. On rencontre aussi interaction avec les divers niveaux de développement académique des participants. EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY D UNIVERSIDAD AUTÓNOA DE ADRID ES DEPARTAENTO DE PSICOLOGÍA BÁSICA, FACULTAD DE PSICOLOGÍA JUAN IGNACIO POZO UNICIO El objeto del trabajo es detectar la influencia de la educación en la formación de estilos cognitivos específicos de dominio, mediante el estudio de las diferencias en la forma de problematizar de estudiantes de física (ciencias) y de ingeniería (tecnología) con distinto nivel de instrucción. Problematización es la capacidad de representación de las situaciones en el sentido deweyano de intelectualización de la dificultad o perplejidad que se ha sentido en un problema que debe ser resuelto ; denominamos estilos cognitivos de dominio al conjunto de los procesos de adquisición y generación de conocimiento que serían específicos de la física y la ingeniería. Aunque hay estudios teóricos y descriptivos, no se encontró experimentación sobre este tema. El estudio indica que en distintos dominios hay diferencias en el nivel de problematización y de explicitacion, en la forma de gestionar y en las metas que se atribuyen a la acción; e interacción con el desarrollo académico. 20 20 ART AND HUANITIES DANIEL SERRAVALLE DE SÁ BR Tropical Gothic Tropicologia Gótica ALBAN CODE E BR GENERAL AND COPARATIVE LITERATURE UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA UK DEPARTENT OF ENGLISH AND AERICAN STUDIES This work highlights the presence of gothic images in The Guarany (1857), by José de Alencar, focusing on what is sexual, sublime, violent and demoniac in the narrative. This approach proposes a new angle for the Brazilian romance, which has been traditionally understood by the literary criticism as a manifestation of a historical indianism, of rousseauesque philosophy. Tropical Gothic uses the gothic as a grid or a reading strategy. The links are established by means of images, such as, the abyss, the mountain, the castle, and by comparing the labyrinth-like narrative structures both in the British gothic fiction and in the Alencarian romance. A abordagem propõe um novo ângulo de interpretação para o romance brasileiro tradicionalmente entendido pela crítica literária como manifestação do indianismo histórico, de filosofia rosseauniana. Tropical Gothic utiliza o gótico como grade ou estratégia de leitura. An original and innovative study program was offered. It is thought in covering the need of good cultural managers by the private and public institutions. This management implies an special humanistic sensibility toward the culture but also a wide range of general formations (legal, economic, documentation, information) specific for the diverse cultural manifestations (patrimony, visual arts, museums, expositions, galleries, edition, theatre, music, dance, cinema, television, Internet). The program included ten months of lectures and four months of professional training in the film distributor Aquelarre. The aim of the project was to develop theoretical and practical research about the composition of solo performances. So, a research about the body as a medium of expression was done, which verified the relation of physicality and theatre. The work of the Brazilian solo performer Denise Stoklos was analysed in parallel to the practice of different actor trainings. Also, the relation of culture, identity and theatre was analysed through the study of postcolonial theory which was applied to drama and theatre. Results: solo performance Will She Come Back Better based on plays by Gertrude Stein; dissertation Performing Postcolonialism: Denise Stoklos and the Essential Theatre which was marked Distinction. O objetivo do projeto era desenvolver uma pesquisa teórica e prática sobe a composição de solo performances. Sendo assim, foi realizada uma pesquisa sobre o corpo como meio de expressão, que verificou a relação corpo e teatro. O trabalho da solo performer Denise Stoklos foi analisado paralelamente a prática de diferentes treinamentos para o ator. Além disso, a relação entre cultura, identidade e teatro foi investigada através do estudo da teoria pós-colonialista aplicada ao drama e ao teatro. 23 ART AND HUANITIES 23 EILIANO JERÓNIO BUIS AR Propriété Privée et Frontières dans les Cités Grecques des siècles Ve - IIe AC: occupation et conflits territoriaux Propiedad Privada y Fronteras en las Ciudades Griegas en los siglos V - II AC: ocupación y conflictos territoriales ALBAN CODE E AR À partir d une étude philologique des documents épigraphiques et littéraires, on a proposé dans le mémoire de repenser l idée de frontière entre les cités grecques en fonction de la notion clé de propriété foncière. Tout en identifiant et analysant les sources qui soulignent l existence d individus habitant les endroits marginaux de la polis, on a bien montré jusqu\ à quel point (loin des interprétations traditionnelles qui regardaient les confins comme territoires inhabités et consacrés seulement au pâturage intermittent), les «eschatiai» faisaient partie de la cité. En fait, la présence de propriétaires dans ces terres tel qu il est bien perçu dans le recueil d inscriptions liées aux décisions arbitrales autour de zones controversées- indique que les espaces frontaliers en Grèce classique et hellénistique étaient soumis très clairement à la législation locale et, par conséquent, traduisaient aussi l idéologie et les cadres politicoadministratifs du centre urbain. JEAN-ARIE BERTRAND A partir de un examen filológico de la documentación epigráfica y literaria, en la tesis realizada hemos propuesto un replanteo de la idea de frontera entre ciudades griegas en función de la noción clave de propiedad privada. Al relevar y analizar las fuentes que señalan la existencia de personas que habitaban las áreas marginales de la polis, demostramos hasta qué punto -lejos de las interpretaciones tradicionales que veían en las áreas de confines un terreno deshabitado y solo destinado al pastoreo intermitente- las eschatiai resultaban parte integrante de la ciudad. De hecho, la presencia de propietarios en estas tierras (como se advierte en la recopilación de las inscripciones sobre decisiones arbitrales sobre zonas en disputa) señala que, en la Grecia clásica y helenística, los espacios fronterizos estaban claramente sujetos a la legislación local y que, por lo tanto, materializaban también la ideología y los esquemas político-administrativos del centro urbano.
