Students and staff have established learning communities in each classroom and across the school, helping create supportive learning environments. As you know, Belvedere implements a Responsive Classroom approach, but you may be asking yourself, what does this mean and what does it look like at school? The Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and learning fosters safe, challenging and joyful classrooms and schools where children thrive academically, socially and emotionally. It emphasizes teaching children to care about themselves, each other, and the school environment so that everyone can learn at his/her best. There is also a strong emphasis on students setting goals for their own learning and taking responsibility for reaching these goals. This approach brings together a social curriculum that builds a caring, respectful community and an academic curriculum based on developmentally appropriate practices. The components of the Responsive Classroom approach include: Morning Meeting Rules and Logical Consequences Guided Discovery Academic choice Classroom Organization Reaching Out to Parents/Guardians These components are evident daily in our classrooms at Belvedere. School wide, we share a common signal (chime) for students to stop and listen, and we have created school wide rules for the hallways and cafeteria which are displayed throughout Belvedere. Students are using their academic skills in activities that lead to group building, caring of the learning environment, and exploring the possibilities for future learning. As we implement the Primary Years Program, we have also discovered that the learner profile attributes and the attitudes align perfectly with the principles of responsive classroom. Through morning meetings, classroom discussions, and our news program (Belvedere News Network), students learn about and explore attributes such as caring, risk taker, and inquirer, as well as attitudes like empathy, enthusiasm, and respect. We invite you to ask your child what she or he has learned about being caring, our learner profile attribute of the month. We also invite you to discuss with your child what caring looks like at home. Thank you for your continued support in helping us develop Belvedere into a world class Primary Years Program school. 2 Apreciadas Familias de Belvedere: Las semanas pasan volando en la escuela y estamos cerca del final de Octubre. Los estudiantes y el personal han establecido comunidades de aprendizaje en cada salón de clases y en toda la escuela, ayudando a crear una atmosfera de apoyo al aprendizaje. Como ya ustedes saben, Belvedere está implementando el enfoque del Responsive Classroom, pero quizás se esté preguntando: que significa esto? y cómo se aplica en la escuela? El enfoque del Responsive Classroom en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje fomenta aulas seguras, de desafíos y alegres y escuelas donde los niños crecen social, emocional y académicamente. Se enfatiza enseñar a los niños a cuidarse a sí mismos, a los demás y su entorno escolar a fin de que todos puedan aprender dando lo mejor de cada uno. También se da un firme énfasis a la realización de metas por parte de los estudiantes para su propio aprendizaje y tomar responsabilidades en alcanzar esas metas. Este acercamiento trae un currículo social que fomenta una comunidad respetuosa, preocupada, y un currículo académico basado en prácticas apropiadas según el desarrollo. Los componentes del enfoque Responsive Classroom incluyen: Reuniones Matutinas Reglas y Consecuencias Lógicas Descubrimientos Guiados Selección Académica Organización del aula Alcanzando a los padres/guardianes Estos componentes se evidencian a diario en nuestras aulas aquí en Belvedere. En toda la escuela, compartimos una señal común (un toque de la campanilla) para que los estudiantes se detengan y escuchen, y hemos creado reglas concernientes a la escuela: en los pasillos y la cafetería, las cuales son vistas por toda Belvedere. Los estudiantes están usando sus destrezas académicas en actividades que llevan a la edificación del grupo, y al cuidado del ambiente de aprendizaje y a explorar las posibilidades para el aprendizaje futuro. A medida que implementamos el Programa IB para las Escuelas Primarias, nosotros hemos también descubierto que los atributos del perfil de los estudiantes y las actitudes se alinean perfectamente con los principios del responsive classroom. Por medio de las reuniones matutinas, discusiones en el aula y nuestro programa de noticias ( Belvedere News Network ), los estudiantes aprenden acerca de y exploran atributos tales como: solidarios, audaces e indagadores, así como actitudes tales como: empatía, entusiasmo y respeto. Les invitamos a que le pregunte a su hijo(a), lo que ha aprendido has acerca de lo que es ser solidario, nuestro atributo del perfil del estudiante de este mes. Así mismo, les invitamos a que converse con su hijo(a) lo que es ser solidario en la casa.
