PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support. This school-wide program provides students with the necessary steps and rewards to behave appropriately in a school setting. By using this program, we are able to create a positive climate within our school that encourages our students to follow school-wide expectations. Students who consistently follow our school-wide expectations receive Bobcat Bills. These Bobcat Bills are used to purchase classroom coupons or to buy items at our school store. The school store is located in our principal, Mrs. C s, office. Students enjoy visiting her office to shop on Friday afternoons. If you re wondering what types of coupons your child can receive, ask your child s teacher for more details or ask your child. I am sure he or she would enjoy telling you about our Bobcat Bills. PBS significa Positive Behavior Support- Apoyo al comportamiento positivo. Este programa provee a los estudiantes los pasos y las recompensas necesarias para comportarse adecuadamente en la escuela. Usando este programa, podemos crear un clima positivo con nuestra escuela y animar a nuestros estudiantes a seguir las expectativas. Los estudiantes que siguen las expectativas reciben billetes (de papel con el logo de la escuela) estos billetes les sirven para comprar cupones en el salón de clases o comprar en la tienda de la escuela, la cual esta localizada en la oficina de la Directora C. A los estudiantes les gusta visitar la oficina los viernes en la tarde para poder comprar. Si usted desea saber que tipos de cupones reciben sus hijos, pregúntele al maestro para mas detalles o pregúntele a su hijo, estoy segura que le encantara contarle sobre los Bobcat Bills. 3 Counselor s Corner with Mrs. O According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 1 billion teens are at risk for hearing loss by the time they are young adults. How, you ask? By listening to unsafe sound levels on personal audio devices, using earplugs, attending loud concerts or events. Once you lose your hearing, it won't come back. When it comes to personal listening devices, the level of damage you can cause to your ears is directly correlated to how long you listen and how loud the sound is. If you can hear the music coming from your child s ear plugs/headsets, it is too loud! It needs to be at a level you CANNOT hear when sitting near them. They also need the time they listen with earbuds or other listening devices limited. Here are some general rules of thumb to protect your child s hearing while using earbuds/headsets: Turn the volume down. You should not be able to hear what someone is listening to when sitting near them! Wear noise canceling earbuds, or better yet, headphones. Take listening breaks every minutes or only listen for just one hour a day. Get an app. Download a smartphone app to help monitor safe listening levels. Let s work together to ensure our children do not lose their ability to hear as young adults. Small, simple steps now will make a difference in their hearing later as teens & young adults. I can be reached Mondays through Wednesdays at , ext State Testing We are nearing the end of this year s testing for students in grades 3 and 4. Our 3rd and 4th grade students will take their FSA math test on 4/8 and 4/9. Our 5th grade students take their FSA reading test on 4/14 and 4/15 and FSA math on 4/28 and 4/29. We will be hosting a Saturday math boot camp on 4/18. Please let Mrs. Louzao, our Assistant Principal, know if you would like your 5th grade student to attend this fun camp.

4 Parent Involvement We were vey pleased to host a Parent Literacy night on Tuesday evenings. Mrs. Alicia Reyes, kindergarten teacher and Ms. Kathy from the Gulf Coast Literacy Center spent their Tuesdays evenings with approximately 25 parents. During this 8 week program, Ms. Robinson, our Tech and Curriculum Specialist, presented websites for children and Mrs. Anderson, 1st grade teacher, introduced Thinking Maps to our parents. Each family was also given books, Thinking Maps and a copy of a Highlight magazine for their child. Cómo, se preguntara? Escuchando niveles altos de ruido en audífonos personales, asistiendo a concierto o eventos con niveles altos de ruido. Si usted pierde la audición es para siempre. Cuando se trata de audífonos personales el nivel de daño que puede causar a sus oídos se correlaciona directamente con Cuanto tiempo y que tan alto es el sonido. Si usted puede escuchar la música cuando su hijo tiene puesto los audífonos es que esta esta muy alta. El nivel de sonido en unos audífonos usted NO lo debe de escucharlo si esta cerca de su hijo. Usted debe darle un tiempo para poder usar los audífonos. Aquí hay unas reglas generales para proteger los oídos de sus hijos cuando estén usando audífonos: Baje el volumen. Usted no debe de escuchar si esta sentado cerca de alguien que esta usando audífonos. Use audífonos con cancelación de ruido. Tome descanso cada minutos cuando este usando audífonos. Obtenga un app. En un teléfono inteligente usted puede usar este app para controlar los niveles de ruido. Trabajemos juntos para asegurarnos que nuestros hijo no pierdan su habilidad auditiva. 7 School District of Lee County 2015 Summer VPK Program The School District of Lee County is happy to announce that the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program (VPK), will be offered at four elementary schools this summer: Bonita Elementary (South zone), Edgewood and Lehigh (East zone) and Patriot Elementary (West zone). The VPK program is available to all age eligible children who have not accessed VPK services during the school year. Children must be 5 years of age by September 1 st and entering Kindergarten for the school year. Services provided in the VPK summer program are: 300 hours (full day) instructional hours to prepare students for Kindergarten Breakfast and lunch Certified teachers Parents must transport their child to the program. If you have a child that will be entering Kindergarten next school year and has not been enrolled in school year VPK, please apply for the summer program at the School District s Student Assignment offices: Lehigh-1262 Wings Way Suite #207, Fort Myers-2855 Colonial Blvd., Cape Coral-360 Santa Barbara Blvd. N., (only until March 27 th ).
