2 Fourth Sunday of Advent December 21, 2014 THE THEME TODAY IS FIAT YES TO GOD We need to give thanks to God for the role we play in his plan for the world. God has a plan for the salvation of the world, which works out in various generations over the centuries. Throughout today s readings, we see Nathan, Paul, Elizabeth and Mary responding to God s call to them, we, too, are called to participate in his plan. Let us be open to God in our lives and give him thanksgiving and praise. 2 Samuel 7:1-5. 8b a-16. David wants to build a house for God. But instead God promises to build an everlasting dynasty for him. Samuel tells of God s promise to David that his kingdom will endure forever. Romans 16: God s plan of salvation for Jews and Gentiles has come to fulfilment in Christ. Saint Paul end his letters to the Romans with a doxology praising God through Jesus Christ. Luke 1: God s promise to David was fulfilled in Jesus. Saint Luke s Gospel describes the announcement of the birth of Jesus and recounts how Mary says yes to God s plan for her and the world. Today many seek fulfilment and happiness through doing their own thing. It s what I want that matters. They believe that happiness lies in having no commitments, no one to answer to, no one whose needs or problems will ever tie us down. Here is an important truth: freedom, happiness and fulfillment are more likely to be found in the acceptance of duty. But the acceptance of duty is not enough. It has to be a loving acceptance of duty. In this Mary gives us a great example. She didn t say to the angel. Sorry, but I have my own plans. I want to do my own thing. She said, it is not what I want, but what God wants that matters. Let what God wants be done to me. Mary made a complete gift of herself to God. And accepted the task he gave her. Even though she didn t understand all the implications of it, she trusted that God would give her all the help she needed. Life imposes a lot of duties on us. Beside duties to ourselves, there are duties for others and duties to God. Those who accept duty as Mary did may not find happiness and fulfilment in the eyes of the world, but they certainly will find it in eyes of God. And deep down they will know it. The grace in life is when what we have to do is what we want to do. God will help us to remain faithful. EL TEMA HOY ES EL FIAT EL SI A DIOS Tenemos que dar gracias a Dios por el papel que desempeñamos en su plan que tiene para el mundo. Dios tiene un plan para la salvación del mundo, lo que se realiza en varias generaciones a través de los siglos. A lo largo de las lecturas de hoy, vemos a Natan, Paul, Isabel y María respondiendo al llamado de Dios, nosotros, también, estamos llamados a participar en su plan. Debemos estar abiertos a Dios en nuestras vidas y le damos gracias y alabanza. 2 Samuel 7: b a-16. David quiere construir una casa para Dios. Pero Dios le promete construir una dinastía eterna para él. Samuel le dice a la promesa de Dios a David que su reino perdurará para siempre. Romanos 16: El Plan de salvación para Judíos y gentiles de Dios ha llegado a la plenitud en Cristo. El Evangelio de San Lucas describe el anuncio del nacimiento de Jesús y narra cómo María dice sí al plan de Dios para ella y para el mundo. Hoy muchos buscan la plenitud y la felicidad a través de "hacer lo suyo". Es lo que yo quiero que importa. Ellos creen que la felicidad está en no tener compromisos, a nadie que responder, cuyas necesidades o problemas que jamás nos aten. Aquí es una verdad importante: la libertad, la felicidad y la realización son más probable que se encuentre en la aceptación del deber. Pero la aceptación del deber no es suficiente. Tiene que ser una aceptación amorosa del deber. En esto la Virgen María nos da un gran ejemplo. Ella no dijo al ángel. Lo siento, tengo mis propios planes. Quiero hacer mi propia voluntad. "Ella dijo, no es lo que yo quiero, sino lo que Dios quiere lo que importa. Lo que Dios quiere hacer para mí. María hizo una entrega total de sí misma a Dios. Y aceptó la tarea que se le dio. A pesar de que ella no entendía todas las implicaciones de la misma, ella confiaba en que Dios le daría toda la ayuda que necesitaba. La vida impone una gran cantidad de responsabilidades en nosotros. Al lado de compromisos para con nosotros, también hay compromisos para los demás y deberes para con Dios. Los que aceptan el compromiso como lo hizo la Virgen María no pueden encontrar la felicidad y satisfacción ante los ojos del mundo, pero sin duda lo encontrarán ante los ojos de Dios. Y en el fondo lo sabrán. La gracia en la vida es cuando lo que tenemos que hacer es lo que queremos hacer. Dios nos ayudará a permanecer fieles. 2

3 DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS Peace and Blessings to You I do not want to miss this time and opportunity to send fraternal greetings and express my gratitude as always to God and You for the many blessings that God has bestowed on us this year. First: We have begun the Advent. It is a spiritual JOURNEY and a new liturgical year. This is a time of grace and blessings, a privilege for us, as throughout the year it will help us to further deepen the Paschal Mystery. Second: It is a time of hope, it is a time to prepare for the coming of the Christ child. I invite you with excitement and joy to take time for personal prayer and meditation during this busy season. Approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in a word prepare ourselves, our family and community for the coming of Jesus. Third: Christmas is God with us. At this time we have to make room in our lives for Jesus' birth. That He truly be born in us. It is important to open our hearts to God's Love. That He fill our lives, with an abundance of joy and peace. Primero: Hemos iniciado el Adviento. Es un camino espiritual y con ello un nuevo ano litúrgico. Este es un tiempo de gracia y bendición, muy privilegiado para nosotros, ya que a lo largo del año nos ayudara a seguir profundizando en el Misterio Pascual. Segundo: Es un tiempo de Esperanza, es un tiempo para preparar la venida del niño Jesús. Les invito, ánimo y exhorto. A que demos un tiempo a nuestra oración y meditación personal en medio de tantas carreras de esta temporada. Acercarnos al sacramento de la Reconciliación, en una palabra a prepararnos personal, familiar y comunitariamente a la venida de Jesús. Tercero: Navidad es Dios con nosotros. En este tiempo nos disponemos para hacer un espacio en nuestra vida al nacimiento de Jesús. Que el nazca verdaderamente en nosotros. Es importante abrir nuestro corazón al Amor de Dios. Que el llene nuestras vidas, nos inunde de alegría y paz. En nombre del Padre Philip, de mi equipo pastoral de la Parroquia, la Escuela de San Jose y personal.
