GRUPO DE HOMBRES EN ORACION /MEN S PRAYER GROUP El Grupo de Hombres en Oración tiene reuniones de adoración y alabanza cada jueves por la noche en la capilla del Santísimo de la iglesia a las 7:00 Empiezan con el Rosario, la oración y después cantando sus alabanzas a Dios. Es un grupo de oración carismático muy energético. Grupo de Hombres en Oración has a worship and praise meeting every Thursday night in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the Church at 7:00 p.m. They begin with the Rosary and prayer followed by singing their praises to God. It is a very energetic, charismatic prayer group. 2

3 INTRODUCING FR. JHONNATAN CARMONA Estimados Feligreses de Madonna, Estoy muy feliz de estar aquí para servir a Dios y servirles a ustedes. Me pidieron que les cuente un poco sobre mí. Nací en Cali, Colombia el 16 de agosto de Mi padre es Álvaro Flores y mi madre es María del Carmen Carmona. Tengo una hermana mayor, Ángela, que vive en Boise, I daho y un hermano mayor que vive en Cali. La influencia más temprana en mi camino al sacerdocio fue mi tío, Henry Carmona, quien fue el ex pastor de la parroquia donde trabajaba mi madre. Cuando tenía 15, el pastor de mi parroquia invitó a los jóvenes de mi parroquia a estudiar y a enseñar Catecismo a los niños. Fue el comienzo de mi discernimiento para el sacerdocio. A los 20 años entre en el seminario Cristo Sacerdote en Colombia y estudie filosofía. Estudié Teología en el seminario de nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en la ciudad de México del 2007 al En junio de 2009, llegué a los Estados Unidos para estudiar a inglés en la Universidad de Idaho. A partir de ahí, continué mis estudios de teología en Mount Angel Seminary en Oregon desde 2010 a Me gradué en mayo del 2013 con una maestría en divinidad y me traslade a San Luis Obispo. Pasé un año de prácticas en la antigua misión trabajando con jóvenes y tutorías de español, ayudando con el Club de Español, visitando a los enfermos y en el ministerio de la prisión. Fui ordenado diácono transitorio el 23 de mayo de 2014 y fui asignado a Santa María de la Natividad aquí en Salinas. Ahí era el capellán para el grupo de oración, ayudaba con los bautismos, el grupo de jóvenes y estudio de la Biblia. Fui ordenado el 22 de mayo de 2015 aquí en Madonna del Sasso y fui asignado como su vicario parroquial. Uno de mis temas favoritos es la teología en relación a la Biblia, la historia de la iglesia y la espiritualidad. Me gustan especialmente los místicos españoles, San Juan de la Cruz y Santa Teresa de Ávila. Otros temas que me gustan son filosofía, psicología y Antropología. Me gusta visitar con amigos, escuchar música, ir al cine (no ciencia ficción), pasear en mi bicicleta. También, me gusta cocinar (a veces) y me gusta viajar a lugares nuevos. Me gusta estar al aire libre. Dios bendiga a todos. En nombre de Jesús, El p. Jhonnatan F. Carmona Dear Madonna Parishioners, I am very happy to be here to serve God and to serve you. I was asked to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Cali, Columbia on August 16, My Father is Alvaro Florez & my mother is Maria del Carmen Carmona. I have an older sister, Angela, who lives in Boise, Idaho, & an older brother who lives in Cali. The earliest influence on my journey to the priesthood was my uncle, Henry Carma, who was the former pastor in the parish where my mother worked. When I was 15, my parish pastor invited the youth of my parish to study & teach catechism to the children. That was the beginning of my discernment for the priesthood. At age 20 I entered the seminary Cristo Sacerdote in Columbia & studied philosophy. I studied theology at the Seminary of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City from In June of 2009, I came to the U.S. to study English at the University of Idaho. From there, I continued my theology studies at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon from 2010 to I graduated in May of 2013 with a Masters in Divinity & moved to San Luis Obispo. I spent a year of internship at the Old Mission working with youth and tutoring Spanish, helping with the Spanish Club, visiting the sick and doing prison ministry. I was ordained a Transitional Deacon on May 23rd, 2014 and was assigned to St. Mary s of the Nativity here in Salinas. There I was chaplain for the prayer group, helped with baptisms and the youth group and Bible Study. I was ordained on May 22, 2015 right here at Madonna del Sasso and was assigned as your Parochial Vicar. One of my favorite topics is theology in relationship to the Bible, the History of the Church and spirituality. I especially like the Spanish Mystics, St. Juan de la Cruz & St. Teresa de Avila. Other topics that I like are philosophy, psychology, and anthropology. I enjoy visiting with friends, listening to music, going to the movies (not science fiction), riding my bike.
