3 FAREWELL LETTER FROM FR. JOSHUA CLIFTON El viernes, 22 de Mayo se ordenaron cuatro diáconos en el presbiterado, siendo la culminación de un largo viaje para estos buenos hombres. Después de años de formación en el seminario y trabajo en una parroquia, finalmente han realizado sus vocaciones de convertirse en sacerdotes. Ahora y para siempre - incluso después de la muerte - estos hombres serán sacerdotes del Dios Altísimo. Recuerdo mi propia ordenación hace unos tres años cuando el Obispo García, a través de la imposición de manos, confirió este Sacramento sobre mí. Poco antes de que me informaran de mi primera misión parroquial: vicario parroquial en la iglesia Madonna del Sasso aquí en Salinas. Ahora casi tres años después, miro hacia atrás en mi experiencia mientras me preparo para embarcarse en mi próxima misión como vicario parroquial de la iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad en Greenfield. La primera asignación de un sacerdote es muy importante. En muchos sentidos, establece el tono para el resto de su sacerdocio. Puesto que está experimentando muchas cosas por primera vez, estas son experiencias fundacionales que ayudan a definir quién es y cómo servir mejor al pueblo de Dios. No podría haber pedido una mejor primera misión que la que he recibido aquí en Madonna del Sasso Church. Ante todo quisiera agradecer a nuestro párroco, el P. Greg Sandman, por el gran ejemplo de cuidado y liderazgo que me ha demostrado a lo largo de mi tiempo aquí. Dicen que un sacerdote en muchos aspectos viene a imitar el ejemplo de su primer párroco. Me siento orgulloso de haberlo tenido como mi primer párroco y no puedo expresar adecuadamente cuánto he aprendido de él. Mis hermanos sacerdotes aquí en la parroquia les agradezco también por su ejemplo y la amistad. El personal y los voluntarios aquí en la parroquia han sido de gran ayuda para mí y para la misión de esta parroquia. Continuamente han sido una extensión de las manos de Cristo en nuestra comunidad parroquial. Les agradezco por su dedicación a Cristo y la iglesia y por ser un buen grupo de personas con los cuales trabajar. Finalmente quiero expresar mi agradecimiento a toda la gente de la parroquia. Son la razón por la que Dios nos llama a ser sacerdotes a orar con y para usted, para administrar los sacramentos y enseñar. Clifton On Friday, May 22 nd we ordained four deacons into the presbyterate, being the culmination of a long journey for these fine men. After years of seminary training and parish work, they have finally had their vocations realized by becoming priests. Now forever - even in the afterlife - these men will be priests of God Most High. I remember my own ordination just over three years ago when Bishop Garcia, through the laying on of hands, conferred this sacrament upon me. Soon before that I was informed of my first parish assignment: parochial vicar at Madonna del Sasso Church here in Salinas. Now almost three years later, I look back on my experience here as I prepare to embark on my next assignment as parochial vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield. A priest s first assignment is very important. In many ways, it sets the tone for the rest of his priesthood. Since he is experiencing many things for the first time, these are foundational experiences that help define who he is and how to best serve the people of God. I could not have asked for a better first assignment than I received here at Madonna del Sasso Church. I first and foremost would like to thank our pastor, Fr. Greg Sandman, for the great example of care and leadership he has demonstrated to me throughout my time here. They say that a priest in many ways comes to imitate the example of his first pastor. I am proud to have had him as my first pastor and cannot adequately express how much I have learned from him. For my brother priests here at the parish I am grateful also for their example and friendship. The staff and volunteers here at the parish have been so helpful to me and to the mission of this parish. They have continuously been an extension of Christ s hands in our parish community. I thank them for their dedication to Christ and the Church and for being such a fine group of people to work with. Finally I express my thanks to all of the people of the parish. You are the reason that God calls us to be priests to pray with and for you, to administer the sacraments and to teach. I cannot begin to tell you all how much you mean to me and how much I have learned from you. Your prayers please continue them! mean more to me than gold. 6 Madonna del Sasso School History What students are saying about History Class at Madonna del Sasso Mrs. B teaches us what could help us in the long run...like free speech, our rights as people, and how we could stop our economy, country, and our world from being destroyed by the situations created by people who don't care. That's what Mrs. B does - she teaches us to care. -Kayla, 8th Grade My favorite thing to learn about was Egypt. After we had to do a project on the topic...my partners and I mummified a teddy bear to show our class how it was done in Ancient Egypt. -Jasmine, 6th Grade In history class we learn about a lot of things from the Stone Age to Ancient Egypt to the Punic Wars. Abel, 6th Grade This year in history Mrs. Borowski taught us a lot of things like how to make a PowerPoint, how to do a blog, and how to make a website. We also talked about the colonies, the missions, explorers, and the pilgrims. My favorite projects were making the colony websites and doing the state reports. - Alia, 5th Grade Mrs. Portia Belo-Borowski History Teacher US History Grades 5 & 8 World History Grades 6 & 7 8th graders Julia, Rebecca and Nyah learned about Women s Suffrage and the 19th Amendment. My favorite thing I did this year was learning about the Constitution. Mrs. B had us choose amendments to present to the class. So in this way, we got to learn something about the Constitution and work on our speaking skills. Each student worked very hard on their project, but it was worth it to give knowledge to the whole class. - Molly, 8th Grade One thing I enjoy about [history] class is our discussions, which we do often. We talk about historic events and how it relates to other events that have occurred and even how it relates to us and affects us. I also like working on several projects that allow us to express ourselves in the most creative way possible. For example, while studying The Reformation, we were divided into groups in which we were assigned to do a play. Our assignment was to perform an act where we showed the importance of or what was happening during The Reformation. The group I was in had decided to do a musical instead of a regular play. This is the project I had the most fun on and am very excited to do again! -Daisy, 7th Grade 6 Join us at Baskin Robbins!
