10 3. PLANETS Planets are celestial bodies without their own light. Planets receive light from the stars. They reflect this light. Planets follow a path when they move around stars. 22 11. THE MOVEMENT OF THE MOON The moon orbits around the Earth. It takes 28 days to circle the Earth once time. The moon looks different as it goes around the Earth. These changes are called the phases of the Moon. These four phases are: a new moon, the first quarter, a full moon and the last quarter. - When the Moon is in the new moon phase you cannot see it in the sky. - In the first quarter the new moon begins to grow and it looks like a D. - The Moon continues to grow until it is a full moon. In this phase, we can see a complete round shape. - After this, it decreases in size. It is now in the last quarter phase. In this phase, the moon looks like a C 29.
