8 SECCIÓN 5 NUMBERS UP TO 30 Numbers 16 through 19 sound like 3 different words but are pronounce as one word. In a direct translation, diez y seis, or 16, would be "ten and six." However, it too is spelled as one word. Apply this formula, change the z in diez to a c, then the y to an i to spell dieciseis as one word. This formula is revisited with higher numbers. 17 is diecisiete, 18 is dieciocho and 19 is diecinueve. Numbers 21 through 29 also sound like 3 words but also pronounced and spelled as one word. Take a look at the following spelling pattern; 21 is veintiuno, 22 is veintidós, 23 is veintitres, 24 is veinticuatro, 25 is veinticinco, 26 is veintiseis, 27 is veintisiete, 28 is veintiocho and 29 is veintinueve. Solve the following math problems. See the vocabulary page to write the number words on the line. 1. veinte + uno = 2. diez + séis = 3. séis + quince = 4. quince cuatro = 5. doce + once = 6. tres x diez = 7. cinco x cuatro = 8. once + ocho = 9. veinticinco + dos = 10. cuatro x siete = 11. siete x dos = 12. tres x séis = 13. dos x tres x cuatro = 14. veinte + cinco = Grammar Rule: When using numbers in a sentence consider the following.
