1 Español 3 Repaso del segundo semestre The Subjunctive (web code: jed-0307) The subjunctive is used to state what one person wants, suggests, or demands that someone else do. In the subjunctive, verbs take on the opposite endings. To form the subjunctive, drop the o ending from the yo present tense conjugation ( this means you have to recall the irregular yo forms also) and add the appropriate ending. ( -ar -er endings; -er/-ir -ar endings). A sentence that uses the subjunctive is composed of two parts separated by the word que. The first part of the sentence will be conjugated in the regular present tense and the second part will use the subjunctive tense. regular present tense + que + subjunctive tense (opposite ending) Example: I want you to study more. Yo quiero + que + tú estudies más. = Yo quiero que tú estudies más Hacer = yo hago Estirar = yo estiro Decir = yo digo haga hagamos estire estiremos diga digamos hagas hagáis estires estiréis digas digáis haga hagan estire estiren diga digan -car, -gar, -zar verbs buscar llegar cruzar _ busque busquemos llegue lleguemos cruce crucemos busques busquéis llegues lleguéis cruces crucéis busque busquen llegue lleguen cruce crucen Irregular Subjunctive verbs (web code: jed-0308) Dar Estar Ir Saber Ser dé esté haya vaya sepa sea des estés hayas vayas sepas seas de esté haya vaya sepa sea demos estemos hayamos vaya sepamos seamos déis estéis hayáis vayáis sepáis seáis den estén hayan vayan sepan sean

They will change in all forms except the nosotros or vosotros. Stem-changing ir verbs will change is ALL forms including nosotros and vosotros. -ir stem-changing verbs e ie: mentir, sentirse, divertirse, preferir e i: sonreír, pedir, reír, repetir, vestir(se), seguir, conseguir, servir o ue: dormir, morir Practice: 1. The same changes that occur in the subjunctive occur with the formation of the nosotros command. Hablemos. Pidamos una pizza. Empecemos la tarea. Let s talk. Let s order a pizza. Let s start the homework. Pronouns in an affirmative command will be placed at the end of the verb. In a negative command, the pronoun will be placed between the no and the verb. 1. 3 Possessive Pronouns (web code: jed-0409) Possessive pronouns are known as the long form of the possessive adjective. These are used to replace a noun. The article and the pronoun must agree in gender and number with the noun they are replacing. Mis padres son muy exigentes. mío(a)(s) nuestro(a)(s) Los míos son muy exigentes. tuyo(a)(s) vuestro(a)(s) suyo(a)(s) suyo(a)(s) 1. Esas flores son de ella? Sí, son las suyas. 2. Ese coche es de tus padres? Sí, el coche es es suyo. 3. Esta calculadora es de ti? Sí, es mía. El Presente Perfecto (web code: jed-0503) The present perfect is used to state what has been done. To form the present perfect, use the present tense of haber with a past participle (-ado/-ido) Remember that to form the past participle, you add ado to ar verbs and ido to ir verbs. I have spoken to the teacher. Yo he hablado con el profesor. he has ha hemos habéis han For er/-ir verbs that have a vowel before the ending (except for -uir), place an accent on the i on ido. leer = leído caer = caído reír = reído oír = oído Irregular past participles abrir = abierto morir = muerto cubrir = cubierto poner = puesto (poder is regular) descubrir = descubierto resolver = resuelto decir = dicho romper = roto escribir = escrito ser = sido hacer = hecho ver = visto 1. Él me ha dicho (decir) que le encanta el fútbol. 2. Tú has pasado (pasar) la clase de español. 3. Yo he abierto (abrir) las ventanas. El Pluscuamperfecto (web code: jed-0504) The pluperfect is used to describe an action that already had happened before another action in the past. Use the imperfect tense of haber with a past participle to form the pluperfect. Example: When the teacher arrived, the students had already started the test. Cuando la profesora llegó, los estudiantes ya habían empezado el exámen. había habías había habíamos habíais habían
4 1. Cuando llegué al comedor de beneficencia, los voluntarios ya habían puesto (poner) la mesa. 2. Antes de trabajar en el centro recreativo, Poncha había estudiado (estudiar) en la universidad. El Presente Perfecto del Subjuntivo (web code: jed-0507) The present perfect subjunctive is used just as the present subjunctive but for actions that may have occurred. To form this tense, use the subjunctive tense of haber with a past participle. I am glad that you have decided to take the exam. Me alegro de que hayas decidido tomar el exámen. I hope that y all have studied enough. Ojalá que hayáis estudiado sufficiente. haya hayas haya hayamos hayáis hayan 1. Ellos esperan que yo haya aprendido (aprender) a hablar español. 2. Es espera que vosotros hayáis visto (ver) a Alicia. 3. Es una lástima que Uds. no hayan podido (poder) viajar a México. Los adjetivos y los pronombres demostrativos (web code: jed-0509) Demonstrative adjs are used to point out people or things. They must agree in gender and number of the noun they are describing and they always come before the noun. Demonstrative adjs can also be used as pronouns. When used as a pronoun, there is a written accent to distinguish them from the adjectives. Adjectives Pronouns this/these este/esta estos/estas éste/ésta éstos/éstas (close to you) that/those ese/esa esos/esas ése/ésa ésos/ésas (closer to the person your are talking to) that/those aquel/aquella aquellos/aquellas aquél/aquélla aquéllos/aquéllas (far from the both of you) 1. El Futuro (web code: jed-0603) The future tense is used to state what will happen at no specific time in the future. To form this tense, all you do is add the following endings to all regular ar, -er, and ir verbs. é ás á -ar/-er/-ir emos éis án Irregular future stems haber = habr poder = podr querer = querr saber = sabr poner = pondr hablaré comeré escribiré salir = saldr hablarás comerás escribirás tener = tendr hablará comerá escribirá venir = vendr decir = dir hacer = har *** you would still need to add the above endings to these irregular verbs. The future with probability is formed in the same exact manner. The only difference is its change in meaning. It can be read as I wonder or It must or Probably. (web code: jed-0604)
5 1. Un día, yo realizaré (realizar) mi sueño de viajar por todo el mundo. 2. Andrés sabe hablar tres idiomas y esta aprendiendo otro. Será (ser) un traductor. 3. Qué hora será (ser)? El Futuro Perfecto (web code: jed-0607) The future perfect is used to express what will have happened by a certain point in time. To form this tense, use the future tense of haber with a past participle. Ex: By the year 2020, you will have graduated from college. (using graduarse) Para el años 2020, te habrás graduado de la universidad. habré habrás habrá habremos habréis habrán In five years, we will have learned a lot about genetics. Para el año 2020, muchos aparatos que ahora se usan ya habrán desaparecido (desaparecer). El uso de lo complementos directos e indirectos (web code: jed-0608) Direct objects receive the action of the verb. They usually answer the question, what? Direct Object Pronouns Me Nos Te Os Lo/La Los/Las Indirect objects is who the action is being done to or for. They usually answer the question, who? Indirect Object Pronouns Me Nos Te Os Le Les When using these together, please note the sequence that these should be in: Subject + IOP + DOP + verb Octavio will tell it(la) to me. Octavio me la dirá There is one exception that must be noted. When the indirect object le or les comes before the direct object lo, la, los, or las, change le or les to se. 6 El condicional (web code: jed-0803) To express what a person would do or what a situation would be like, we use the conditional. To form the conditional, we use the same structure as the future. Leave the verb in its infinitive form and add the appropriate ending. -ar/-er/-ir -ía -íamos -ías -íais -ía -ían Irregulars are the same as those that are irregular in the future tense. hacer = har decir = dir venir = vendr tener = tendr You would go to college after gradating from high school. salir = saldr Tú irías a la universidad después de graduarte de la secundaria. poner = pond saber = sabr querer = querr haber = habr poder = podr 1.
