We give thanks to Christ for giving His Mother to each one of us as one of His final acts while He was hanging on the cross. The rosary will be prayed before every Mass during the month of May. 2 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER 2 MAY 1, 2016 Jesus addresses his disciples in his remaining days as one who is about to leave. He knows that the day of his death is coming soon. So he prepares them for it. This reminds me of when I used to play football and we were going against a formidable team. Perhaps the most intimidating thing about going against a tough team is that you really don't completely know what to expect. How will the team try to defeat us? Will I be able to perform well? The coaches would motivate us and tell us to be ready for a tough fight and to look forward to a solid victory. Jesus is also motivating his disciples. They are about to go through a tough time. The difference between Jesus and the football coach is that he tells them what to expect and also VICTORY IS ASSURED! All they need to do is persevere and wait for the promise of Jesus to come to fulfillment. The promise he gives to them is the person who will make the victory happen: The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who works within us. He gives us all of his gifts, including strength and courage. Through the Holy Spirit Jesus rose from the dead. Through the Holy Spirit Jesus remains with us and comes to us over and over again through the sacraments. Jesus also prepares us for his ascension and for the sending of the Holy Spirit to us in a new way. This team that we call the Church is assured of victory. All we have to do is go out on the field, play our best, and rely on the Holy Spirit to bring us to victory. Jesús se dirige a sus discípulos en sus últimos días como aquel que está a punto de salir. Él sabe que el día de su muerte es muy pronto. Así que el los prepara. Esto me recuerda cuando solía jugar al fútbol americano y que íbamos en contra de un equipo formidable. Tal vez lo más intimidante de ir contra un equipo difícil, es que realmente no se sabia qué esperar completamente. Cómo es que el equipo intentará derrotarnos? Seré capaz de funcionar bien? Los entrenadores nos motivaban y nos decían que estuviéramos listos para una pelea dura y mirar hacia adelante a una victoria solida. Jesús también motiva a sus discípulos. Están a punto de pasar por un momento difícil. La diferencia entre Jesús y el entrenador de fútbol es que él les dice qué esperar y también les ASEGURO VICTORIA! Todo lo que necesitan hacer es perseverar y esperar en la promesa de Jesús que llegue a su cumplimiento. La promesa que le da a ellos es la persona que va a hacer que suceda la victoria: el Espíritu Santo. El Espíritu Santo es el que actúa en nosotros. Él nos da a todos sus regalos, incluyendo fuerza y valor. Por medio del Espíritu Santo, Jesús se levantó de entre los muertos. A través del Espíritu Santo, Jesús permanece con nosotros y viene a nosotros una y otra vez a través de los sacramentos. Jesús también nos prepara para su ascensión y para el envío del Espíritu Santo de una manera nueva. Este equipo que llamamos la Iglesia está asegurada la victoria. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es ir al campo de juego, jugar lo mejor posible, y confiar en el Espíritu Santo para llevarnos a la victoria. Greetings from the Adore Ministries here at Resurrection Catholic Community! Spring has been busy, as most Spring semesters tend to be. We have had thriving high school and middle school youth nights each week, as well as Spring Break activities, a volunteer day at the Spring Bazaar and a Vocations retreat. On April 12th, we took four teens to the Insight retreat put on by the Archdiocese at the Vietnamese Dominican Sisters Convent in Houston. We had a great time playing games, attending sessions, worshipping in the beautiful convent Chapel, and learning about what it means to have a vocation to religious life. Please join us in continuing to pray for the youth of our parish and the ways God may be calling them to pursue religious life as a priest or a religious brother or sister. I d like to ask you all to keep a very special intention in your prayers as we approach our Spring Confirmation retreat. We will be taking about 50 teens on an overnight retreat in preparation for their Confirmation this June. If you could, please say a prayer every day for these teens, that their hearts would be open and that God would work powerfully in their lives through the retreat May 6-8. Our End of the Year Party for Middle School and High School will be Thursday, May 12th from 6:30-8:00 in the gym. All are welcome! Summer activities to be announced in the coming weeks.
