4 9) Reading Comprehension. Read the following reading selections, and answer the questions in English IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! (10 pts.) A. Read about Leonardo s daily routine: Bueno, me levanto temprano, generalmente a las siete, siete y media. Lo primero que hago es entrenar. Salgo a correr, aquí mismo, en este maravilloso lugar, en este jardín Botánico. Regreso a casa, más o menos una hora después. Me baño y salgo a trabajar. Trabajo por la parte de la mañana como profesor de portugués, y por la parte de la tarde como actor. Soy formado en teatro. Voy comiendo como por ahí de las dos o tres de la tarde, después de mi clase, después de haber dado mi clase. Y veo a mis amigos en el teatro, con ellos convivo bastante tiempo durante los ensayos, y durante el tiempo que estoy en el espectáculo, en la función. Después también a veces salimos a platicar a tomar un café. Regresar en la noche a preparar algo para el día siguiente, y descansar. 1) A qué hora se levanta Leonardo? (At what time does he get up?) He gets up at 6 or 6:30. 2) Qué hace Leonardo después de correr? (What does he do after running?) He bathes and leaves for work. 3) Qué hace Leonardo para sus trabajos? (What does he do for his jobs?) He is a Portuguese teacher and an actor. 4) Qué hace después de trabajar y antes de dormirse? (What does he do after work and before going to sleep?) He goes out with his theater friends and gets a coffee (and chats), then returns home and prepares for the next day. A. Read Jorge s advice for taking the bus in Mexico. (He refers to the bus as el camion, which also means truck in some countries.) Voy a contar específicamente sobre el boleto para un camión. Me gusta siempre estar en camiones de primera clase cuando voy a largas distancias. He estado en diferentes tipos de camiones pero cuando voy más allá de cuatro horas, cinco horas me gusta comprar un boleto de primera clase para tener espacio en mi asiento, sentirme más a gusto. Y es importante saber que el camión no vaya a hacer paradas seguidas porque eso hace que la distancia sea más larga y más aburrida. Honestamente, no me gusta estar en camión, mucho menos en tren. Pero cuando compro un boleto siempre trato de comprarlo con anticipación para poder agarrar buen asiento. No sé la demás gente pero a mí nunca me ha gustado sentarme al frente porque siempre escucho la radio del chofer. Y nunca me ha gustado sentarme atrás porque soy el último en salir. So me 4

5 gusta más estar en medio, así puedo ver al frente y puedo ver atrás. Y en algún caso de accidente pienso que en un ochenta por ciento en un camión el accidente va al frente. Y como digo yo, a mí me gusta siempre estar cuando voy cuatro o cinco horas de la ciudad, me gustar estar en primera clase. Pero cuando es distancias cortas no me importa el tipo de camión siempre y cuando me lleve al lugar al tiempo que yo necesito. 1) Qué tipo de boleto a Jorge le gusta comprar? Por qué? (What type of ticket does he like to buy?) He likes to buy a first class ticket because he has more space in the seat. 2) En cuál parte del camión prefiere Jorge tener su asiento? Por qué? (In which part of the bus does Jorge prefer to have his seat?) He likes be in the middle because he can see the front and the back. He doesn t like the front because he has to listen to the driver s radio and because the front is more dangerous in an accident, and he doesn t like the back because he is the last to get off the bus. 10) Writing Describe your daily routine in detail. Write at least 10 sentences. You must use at least five different reflexive verbs correctly. Be sure to include the reflexive pronouns. (5) 11) Listening Fill in the missing words from the dialogue. Then, answer questions in English about the dialogue. (See separate Listening Practice Sheet.) 12) Speaking (30% of the grade: This will be done the week before exams.) A. You will be asked 2 of the following questions. Your answers must be logical, in complete sentences, and display knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, particularly conjugation. B. You may be asked a follow up question OR You may be asked to ask me a question other than a yes/no question. The question you ask may be one of the questions that I am asking you.
