Nests vary greatly in size, shape, and location. Animals make nests from all kinds of materials, including grass, mud, rocks, and even bubbles. Tell children that this book is nonfiction, so the words and photos will give information about animal nests. Introduce the Text Guide children through the text, noting important ideas and nonfiction features. Help with unfamiliar language so they can read the text successfully. Give special attention to target vocabulary. Here are some suggestions: Page 2: Explain that this is a book of information about amazing animal nests. Remind children to go back to the text to support their ideas. Phonics/Word Work Provide practice as needed with words and word parts, using examples from the text. Remind children that to form the plural of words we add s or es. Point out the words nidos and nido (page 3) and the word animales (page 8). Writing about Reading Vocabulary Practice Have children complete the Vocabulario questions on Hoja reproducible 6.1. Responding Have children complete the vocabulary activities on page 11. Remind them to answer the Word Teaser on p. 12. (Answer: colgar) Reading Nonfiction Nonfiction Features: Photographs Remind children that nonfiction has many features to help readers find and understand important information. Photographs are one of these features. Explain that photographs often add information that is not in the text. Have children look at the photo on page 10. Have children to choose two or three other photographs in the book and tell how the photos added information to what they had read.
