Introducción de verbos (introduction of verbs) Modo infinitivo (infinitive form) In English you can recognize the infinitive form of a verb by the word to, like to run, to eat, etc. In Spanish a verb is in infinitive form, when it ends in ar, -er or ir. First conjugation Primera conjugación Second conjugation Segunda conjugación Third conjugation Tercera conjugación ending : -ar ending: -er ending: -ir estudiar comer vivir The endings are attached to the root (la raíz) of the verb. La raíz will not change when you conjugate the verb. A conjugated verb tells you who is doing something and when it is done (the tense of the verb). To conjugate a regular verb, drop the ending from the infinitive form to get the root and add the corresponding ending (see below). Example: a) modo infinitivo: estudiar b) raíz: estudi c) estudio (I study), estudias (you study) Regular verbs in presente indicativo Modo indicativo Indicative mood expresses something conceived as a fact, like: I study (estudio), you write (escribes).
