3 Especial Polonia Special Issue: Poland NEWSLETTER 32 JULY 2011 JULIO THE COMPANY / EMPRESA Customer Appreciation Day in Bielsko-Biała, an excellent opportunity to expand market in Poland Customer Appreciation Day, an event organised by the ITURRI Group in Poland, was held at the Parkhotel Vienna in Bielsko- Biala on the 27th of May. The congress drew the participation of prestigious delegates from national organisations highly involved in workplace safety, such as Beata Marynowska (Inspector of Workplace Safety for the Zone) and Piotr Szłapa (Director of the Mechanical Vibrations Laboratory of the Institute of Occupational Medicine). Participants presented and discussed a variety of issues which fell into the following three categories: -Innovative solutions -Issues drawn from the field of occupational safety -Technical clothing El Día del Cliente en Bielsko- Biała, una excelente oportunidad para ampliar mercado en Polonia El Día del Cliente, evento organizado por el Grupo ITURRI en Polonia, se celebró en el Parkhotel Vienna de Bielsko-Biała el pasado 27 de mayo. En el congreso participaron prestigiosos delegados de organismos nacionales plenamente implicados con la seguridad laboral, como Beata Marynowska (Inspectora de Seguridad Laboral de Zona) o Piotr Szłapa (Director del Laboratorio de Vibraciones Mecánicas del Instituto de Medicina Laboral). The ITURRI Group s Spanish and Polish teams worked together to help facilitate interactions between the cultures of both countries. Guests of honour and representatives provided discussion. During the conference, a group of 18 ITURRI Group vendors, including 3M, Ansell, Skydda, DuPont, Gore, Mapa, Capital Safety, Jal Group, Sperian and Tork, presented the latest solutions for Occupational Safety and Health. Presentations included hands-on activities that gave attendees a better understanding of their products. The conference also included seminars and multimedia presentations. More than 250 visitors participated. Henryk Juszczyk took part in the institutional portion of the programme, on behalf of the City Council of Bielsko-Biala. The third annual Customer Appreciation Day in Bielsko-Biala was an ideal opportunity to discuss, debate and exchange experiences. Ties with existing customers were strengthened, and new customers were won. It was the perfect occasion to increase awareness about the ITURRI Group. Los participantes presentaron y discutieron diversas cuestiones englobadas en tres grupos temáticos: -Soluciones innovadoras -Cuestiones seleccionadas en materia de seguridad laboral -Prendas técnicas Los discursos corrieron a cargo de los invitados de honor y de los representantes. Durante la jornada, un grupo de 18 proveedores del Grupo ITURRI como 3M, Ansell, Skydda, DuPont, Gore, Mapa, Capital Safety, Jal Group, Sperian o Tork presentaron las últimas soluciones en materia de Seguridad y Salud Laboral. Lo hicieron con talleres activos que ayudaron a conocer mejor los productos. También se celebraron algunos seminarios y presentaciones multimedia. Participaron en el congreso más de 250 visitantes. En el apartado institucional del programa estuvo presente Henryk Juszczyk, en nombre de la alcaldía de Bielsko-Biała. El trabajo en común del equipo hispanopolaco del Grupo ITURRI contribuyó a facilitar la mezcla entre las culturas de ambos países. 2 3

The event offered an excellent opportunity to talk to clients, as well as to visit ITURRI s branch in Poland. Top Safety s presentation caught the interest of a large number of visitors, who were drawn to its enormous scaffolding. This attracted a great deal of attention, and the spectacular staging of a high-altitude rescue operation received a standing ovation. A group of children from the Bielsko-Biala Elementary School No. 18 attended a conference on safety awareness in everyday life. The guests had the opportunity to visit an exhibition of various safety related images. Teamwork between ITURRI s Spanish and Polish delegations, as well as the flamenco performance by the famous Polish actress and dancer Anna Iberszer, helped encourage the mingling of Spanish and Polish cultures. All this took place during the presentation of results of the workshop s joint activities, in which efforts to satisfy the group s customers were weighed. La tercera edición del Día del Cliente en Bielsko-Biała fue una ocasión ideal para hablar, debatir e intercambiar experiencias. Permitió estrechar lazos con los clientes actuales y ganar algunos nuevos. Fue la ocasión perfecta para conocer mejor al Grupo ITURRI. Durante la jornada, los comerciales celebraron numerosas reuniones con clientes clave. Se trataba de una excelente ocasión para hablar con ellos y visitar además ITURRI Polonia. La presentación de Top Safety atrajo un a gran número de visitantes gracias a su gigantesco andamiaje. Llamó mucho la atención y recibió una enorme ovación la espectacular puesta en escena de una operación de rescate a gran altura. Un grupo de niños del Centro de Enseñanza Primaria 18 de Bielsko- Biała participó en una conferencia sobre seguridad consciente en la vida diaria. Los invitados tuvieron la oportunidad de presenciar una exposición con distintas imágenes sobre seguridad. El trabajo en común del equipo hispanopolaco del Grupo ITURRI y la exhibición de baile flamenco realizada por la famosa actriz y bailarina polaca Anna Iberszer contribuyeron a facilitar la mezcla entre las culturas española y polaca. Todo esto tuvo lugar durante la presentación de los resultados de las actividades conjuntas, donde se ponderaron los esfuerzos realizados para satisfacer a los clientes del grupo. Its cars roam the streets in all five continents. From an SUV that is affordable for any budget, to a premium line incorporating the latest technology. Its brands (including Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Daewoo, Opel and Vauxhall) have enjoyed success and won devotees year after year. GM was originally an American company that had been in existence for more than 100 years when it first established operations in Poland in the 1990s, entering a market that promised growth in the automotive sector. The move was certainly a smart one. They first opened offices in Warsaw, followed by a production plant in Gliwice. They also have a Purchasing Centre in Romania, a Safety Coordination Centre in Austria, the European Division Central Offices in Germany, and several production plants spread across the continent. The Gliwice plant has more than 3,000 employees (and 209,000 for the entire Group) and hopes to produce 180,000 vehicles Conversaciones con los clientes GENERAL MOTORS Leszek Grudniewski Safety Coordinator en Planta de Pintura Quién no conoce General Motors? Gliwice cuenta con más de trabajadores ( en todo el Grupo) y espera tener una producción de vehículos durante 4 5

Having recently withstood the global economic downturn, the company is continuing with its growth plans. The company s success, along with many other statistics, can be seen in government statistics, such as a 3.8% annual growth rate in GDP (2010). este curso. This means that, in terms of safety, according to Leszek Grudniewski, they do everything possible to reduce the number of on-the-job accidents. Target: Zero Accidents. In 2009, there were 6 cases, and in 2010, only 1. Of these, 90% were due to human error. The safety plan includes staff training to raise awareness about the use (or rather, the proper use) of PPE during work hours. This task is carried out hand in hand with the ITURRI Group s Polish team. The vehicle manufacturing process passes through four main phases: Pressing and bodywork, Painting, Assembly, and of course, Logistics to support this structure. The risk of accidents is different depending on the stage. The more unfinished the product is, the higher the risks involved. Thus, the risks involved in cutting plate require protection for the operator s hands, while the painting process requires protecting the product against the scratches, for example. In terms of protection, gloves have played a starring role in the automotive industry for years. We might be tempted to say that we are experts in this field and already know everything there is to know about it. But it is precisely our knowledge and experience that allows us to continue researching and innovating, so that we can continue to offer better solutions. From gloves, we then move on to shoes, where we have more work to be done. In terms of footwear, we look forward to working with the rest of the PPE team, as we have been doing in other GM plants. The ITURRI Group, before EUROSOFT, has over 10 years of experience working with GM. We have grown alongside the customer and now, as always, we also want to help nourish the customer s continued growth. Their goals are our goals. We will work together to achieve better products, better service, better advice, better responsiveness and, ultimately, better solutions. Objetivo: cero accidente laboral. En 2009 tuvieron 6 casos y en 2010 tan sólo 1. De éstos, el 90% se debía a fallos humanos. Esto conlleva planes de entrenamiento para el personal para la concienciación del uso y, mejor dicho, buen uso de los EPI durante las horas de trabajo. Esta labor se hace de la mano del equipo polaco del Grupo ITURRI en Polonia. El proceso de fabricación de un vehículo pasa principalmente por cuatro fases: Prensa, carrocería, Pintura, Montaje y, por supuesto Logística para soportar toda esta estructura. Los riegos de accidente son diferentes según la fase. Cuanto más crudo está el producto, más riesgo conlleva. Así, el riesgo de corte con chapa supone proteger las manos del operario mientras que en la etapa de pintura se busca proteger el producto contra el rallado por ejemplo. Los guantes han sido el producto estrella en el sector de la automoción durante años. Podría decirse que en este campo somos expertos y que ya lo tenemos todo sabido. Pero es precisamente nuestra experiencia y conocimiento lo que nos permite seguir investigando e innovando para ofrecer siempre mejores soluciones. De los guantes saltamos al calzado, donde nos queda más camino por recorrer y, esperamos seguir colaborando con el resto del equipo de protección tal y como venimos haciendo en otras plantas de GM. Magdalena Michniewicz, Bartlomiej Król (BAHLSEN) and Wojciech Nerwinski (ITURRI Group) BAHLSEN Magdalena Michniewicz, Quality Department Bartlomiej Król, Heathy & Safety and Fire Protection Deparment Bahlsen is a food industry company that originated in Germany, known for its desserts and sweets. Hit, Kraknske and Leibniz are premium brands in the sector. They have a long and extensive experience in the world of pastry making since its founding in 1889, and its products are exported to more than 80 countries. It was just 10 years ago that Bahlsen entered the Polish market, in the region of Skawina. They started with one factory, and soon had to double capacity and divide themselves into two major work segments: the preparation of biscuits in Skawina, and packaging in a second facility in Jawornik. The first factory employs 400 people, while the second has a staff of 200. Growth plans are positive, and they are already planning to undertake construction at the manufacturing plant to improve productivity. At first glance, working in a food factory might not be considered a dangerous activity rather one with little or no risk of accidents. However, noise, slipping and falling are still major threats. Many pieces of machinery are in constant operation, and often a portion of the oils used in the process leaks. In 2010, 5 accidents involving Bahlsen workers were recorded: 3 at the factory and 2 on the road. At ITURRI Poland, we are working to find the best solution to these two main problems. It is essential to listen to Bahlsen s needs, following their current preferred approach of providing personal protection for each operator through the necessary protective equipment, rather than adopting collective protection measures. We are currently able to offer a variety of hearing protection and non-slip footwear options, and we hope to reach some fruitful agreements in the near future. Hit, Kraknske y Leibniz son marcas Premium del sector. Cuentan con una larguísima y dilatada experiencia en el mundo de la repostería ya que fue fundada en 1889 y sus productos son exportados a más de 80 países. Apenas hace unos 10 años Bahlsen se instaló en Polonia en la región de Skawina. Comenzaron con una fábrica y pronto tuvieron que duplicar capacidad y dividirse en dos grandes secciones de trabajo: la elaboración de los pasteles en Skawina y el empaquetado en otra localidad, Jawornik. En la primera fábrica operan 400 personas y en la segunda 200. Los planes de crecimiento son positivos y ya tienen previsto acometer obras en la planta de elaboración de dulces para mejorar la productividad. Aunque a simple vista trabajar en una fábrica de alimentos podría considerarse una actividad nada peligrosa o con muy poco riesgo de accidente, sus principales enemigos son el ruido y los resbalones con caída al suelo. Se requiere numerosa maquinaria siempre en funcionamiento y muchas veces parte de los aceites empleados en el procedimiento caen fuera. La casuística de accidente laboral de 2010 fue de 5 casos: 3 en la fábrica y 2 en la carretera. Desde ITURRI Polonia trabajamos para buscar la mejor solución a estos dos principales problemas. Es fundamental escuchar las necesidades de Bahlsen que, de momento, prefiere proteger personalmente a cada operario con el equipo necesario que aplicar medidas de protección colectiva. Actualmente tanto la oferta de protección auditiva como de calzado antideslizante es muy variada y esperamos que pronto lleguemos a buenos acuerdos. 6 7

Usually we do not dare to say anything, much less correct someone, perhaps out of fear of what they might say. But if we can get over this reluctance, Salamanca ensures that we would certainly take a big step towards creating safer habits. According to him, it is here that we must not lose heart. How to monitor and inspect service station hoses REPSOL The Repsol refinery in A Coruña has found itself needing a service to monitor, inspect and replace hoses in its industrial complex. This initiative is, without a doubt, an innovative and highly competitive proposition. It represents the outcome of the group s efforts, led by the technical teams at ITURRI and JAL Group. These awards, which have been handed out for the last twelve years, were created to honour the professionals, companies and organisations which stand out from the crowd for their outreach and implementation of occupational hazard prevention in Spain. Among other specific measures taken by Prosegur, the award highlighted its Occupational Hazards Prevention Plan. 16 SATISFIED CUSTOMER / CLIENTE SATISFECHO Argentina: Equipment decontamination and maintenance services for the YPF refinery in La Plata YPF YPF Argentina once again entrusted ITURRI Group to provide protection service to those who visited the hydrofluoric (HF) acid plant the company has at the La Plata Refinery, between the 14th of February and the 14th of May. Over these three months, more than 500 people passed through the acid tent. All were supplied with appropriate PPE, given advice, and then decontaminated after the visit. The tent was divided into five areas: administration, clothing, showers, acid zone and decontamination showers. Every day, visitors entered the tent and donned their PPE under the guidance of ITURRI Group staff. After performing the task on the ground, they immediately passed through the external decontamination showers, and after leaving the acid zone, they left their clothing and boots for maintenance, washing and drying. After the experience was over, they went through the shower, changed clothes, and returned home already fully decontaminated

Los visitantes entraban a diario en la carpa y se colocaban sus EPI asesorados por personal del Grupo ITURRI. Tras realizar la tarea en planta, acto seguido pasaban por las duchas de descontaminación externas y, tras abandonar la zona ácida, dejaban los trajes y botas para su mantenimiento, lavado y secado. Al finalizar la experiencia pasaban por la ducha, se cambiaban y regresaban a casa ya totalmente descontaminados. How to make the air in the refinery more breathable This service is able to provide portable breathing gas lines at various work faces, without placing time restrictions on operations. This is possible because it has two certified medical-type compressed breathing gas bottles, controlled by an automatic panel mounted on a mobile cart. This panel allows empty bottles to be exchanged without interrupting the air line service. The goal is to improve working methods in areas with potential gaseous contaminants. Cómo hacer más respirable el aire de la refinería Este servicio es capaz de proveer líneas de aire respirable portátiles en los distintos frentes de trabajo sin limitación del tiempo de operación. Esto es posible porque cuenta con dos botellones de aire comprimido de tipo medicinal sintético con certificación, comandados por un panel automático montado en un carro móvil. Este panel permite el intercambio de botellones vacíos sin interrumpir el servicio de línea de aire. El objetivo es mejorar la metodología de trabajo en áreas con posibles contaminantes gaseosos. Durante esos noventa días el Grupo ITURRI sirvió más de trajes de doble PVC con costuras selladas, 600 pares de guantes Guardian, más de guantes de Neoprene Mapa, 15 trajes Respirex encapsulados, 600 Botas para uso con HF y todos los EPI y todos los elementos necesarios para el aseo personal.
