DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA MATERIA: El curso Contrastive Morphology and Syntax ha sido concebido en parte como continuación y en parte como ampliación de los conocimientos adquiridos en English Morphology and Syntax y Morfología, Sintaxis y Fonología del Español. Adicionalmente, se lo puede considerar una base muy importante para las materias de especialización en enseñanza y traducción. 3. OBJETIVO GENERAL: At the end of this course, students will be able to apply their grammatical knowledge to a contrastive analysis of English and Spanish. 1

OBJETIVOS ESPECÍFICOS: - To identify the main morphological differences between these two languages. - To analyze how English and Spanish differ from the syntactic point of view. - To use contrastive analysis in their future teaching or translation tasks. 5. 3 6. METODOLOGÍA, RECURSOS: A reader will be photocopied at the beginning of the course and students will be asked to read and prepare the assigned material beforehand. The first part of the class will consist of discussions and questions and then one student will be responsible for a short presentation in which a specific aspect of this particular topic will be explained in more depth. Therefore, not only the teacher, but also the students will be responsible for the preparation of classes. 7. EVALUACIÓN: Students will be evaluated on the basis of two quizzes, the mid-term and the final exam, and will be asked to prepare a short presentation and a written report on one of the topics proposed for the class.
