1 July, 2015 Newsletter Welcome to what promises to be an exciting school year filled with many opportunities for students who are on the path to achieve high school and college success. As we continue to grow our population and evolving our curriculum, we look forward to partnering with our new and returning families as we begin our second year in operation. We ask that you take time to read and discuss with your child the important information contained in this newsletter. Advisory Each student is assigned an advisor to oversee his or her academic career. Advisory assignments will be posted on August 21 st at 4 p.m. Students are to report to their advisory on August 24 th at 8:45. Class schedules will be issued in advisory. Facilities SAISD, working in partnership with St. Philip s College, has provided us with beautiful classrooms and campus. We have added additional classrooms due to the addition of a new cohort of students. In addition to the classrooms we had last year, we are adding five portable classrooms. We are grateful for the support of the college in furnishing our classrooms so magnificently! Our facility is truly a state of the art and, if you have not had a chance to visit, please stop by and we would be happy to give you a personal tour! School Office Hours Summer office hours are 8:00-4:00, Monday-Thursday. The school office and St. Philip s College are closed on Fridays. We will resume our Monday-Friday work week, beginning August 3 rd. Summer Bridge Program The Summer Bridge program for the class of 2019 (9 th graders) is scheduled for August 3-5, We will meet each day at 9:00 and will end at 3:00, with the exception of August 5, where the program will end at 1 pm. Students do not have to wear uniforms during the summer bridge program, but should dress appropriately for all activities. All students should report to The Heritage Room on Monday. We will provide them with an agenda for the rest of the week. 2 Registration Registration for all class of 2019 students and any new sophomores will occur the week of August 4 th -6 th, Registration will occur daily 8:30-11:30 AM and 1:30-4:00 PM School Hours/Opening Day School Begins on Monday, August 24 at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 4:15 p.m. Breakfast and lunch service will begin on the first day of school. Student Drop Off/ Pickup Procedures Parents should use the circular drive way to drop off students in the morning. The drive way is on Ferguson (off of Martin Luther King Drive-next to the Watson Fine Arts Center). Students will be dismissed at 4:15. Please do not request early dismissal for your child due to transportation. Student ID Cards Photo ID cards for the class of 2019 and new sophomores will be issued through St. Philip s College. Students who attended St. Philip s ECHS will utilize the same card they were issued last year. ID cards are required for college building access, and college/school activities. Students are required to carry their ID at all times and must replace them if lost, damaged or stolen. Breakfast and Lunch All students will receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:00. If students desire to purchase lunch through the St. Philip s Cafeteria, he/she may, but will still need to receive a SAISD lunch to complete the required nutritional value. Students purchasing breakfast or lunch through St. Philip s will be charged the regular college rate for meals. Students will have 30 minutes for lunch daily. Lunch periods Monday-Thursday 11:55-12:25 (sophomores) 12:30-1:00 (freshmen) Friday (all) 11:45-12: ; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Page 2

3 SPCECHS PENS Message System One of the major challenges faced by school districts today is maintaining accurate contact information for each and every student. With fewer home phone numbers in operation, constantly changing cell numbers and family moves, one of our greatest fears is an inability to contact someone in the event of an emergency. Imagine for a moment that your child is seriously injured at school and we were unable to reach you because your phone number had changed. Please keep us informed and don t let this happen to you!!! SPCECHS use the PENS message system to assist with contacting families for school-wide notices and events. The results greatly improve communication. Student Planners Students are given planners the first day of school for logging homework assignments and other school events. This important tool must be kept up-to-date by the students and is regularly reviewed by their College Prep Teacher. Lost planners must be replaced by the student. SPCECHS Faculty and Parking SPCECHS is housed in the Bowden building located at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. While most classes are held in this building, SPCECHS is considered part of the St. Philip s community with access to all campus buildings needed for instruction. Parents of St. Philip s ECHS students may park in the parking lot across from the Bowden building when visiting the ECHS. Students who drive must have a valid license and receive the required parking document through St. Philip s. Campus Security We are happy to share with parents that St. Philip s security is housed diagonally from our building. This helps protect access to our school. St. Philip s Campus Security is its own police jurisdiction and is responsible for protecting all St. Philip s campus property while maintaining a safe environment for all St. Philip s residents, employees and visitors. All state and local code violations are investigated by ST. 5 2015 Julio boletín Bienvenido a lo que promete ser un emocionante año escolar lleno de muchas oportunidades para los estudiantes que están en el camino para alcanzar la escuela secundaria y el éxito en la educación superior. Con menos números de teléfono de casa, cambiando constantemente las células y la familia se mueve, uno de nuestros mayores temores es la incapacidad de ponerse en contacto con alguien en caso de una emergencia. Imaginemos por un momento que su hijo está gravemente herido en la escuela y no pudimos llegar a usted porque su número de teléfono ha cambiado. Por favor, manténgannos informados y no dejes que esto te ocurra!!! SPCECHS utilizan "PENS" sistema de mensajes para ayudar a las familias estar en contacto con la escuela los avisos y eventos. Planificadores de los estudiantes Los estudiantes reciben los planificadores del primer día de clases para el registro de tareas y otros eventos escolares. SPCECHS Facultad y estacionamiento SPCECHS estará en el edificio Bowden 1801 Martin Luther King Drive.
