7 7 Present Progressive The present progressive expresses things that are happening in this moment or and action in progress. Ej.: Estoy escribiendo una carta. Antonio está leyendo una revista. Estoy estudiando español. Mi hermano está preparando la cena. Some verbs have irregular present participle forms: decir: diciendo traer: trayendo pedir: pidiendo leer: leyendo repetir: repitiendo creer: creyendo servir: sirviendo dormir: durmiendo vestir: visitiendo ir: yendo oír: oyendo reír: riendo caer: cayendo destruir: destruyendo When you use object pronouns with the present progressive, you can put them before the conjugated form of estar, or attach them to the present participle (note, you must put an accent to keep the original sound of the verb if you attach the object pronoun to the end of the infinitive): Me estoy vistiendo./ Estoy vistiéndo me. To describe age, a persons characteristics and appearance, the weather, time and date, attitudes and desires, location and one s emotional in the past. 2. Ongoing/continuous action (el estudiaba mucho) 3. Habitual or repeated action in the past, often accompanied by the following: Todos los días, Generalmente, Habitualmente, Todas las tardes, Frecuentemente, Todos los veranos 4. Interrupted action The verb that does not establish time limits (or sets the background to the situation) is expressed in imperfect, and the other that either interrupts the action expressed in the imperfect or is the defining moment in the expression is stated in preterite.
