These letters are listed below, along with their Spanish names. You will have the chance to practice most of these letters individually in future chapters. Práctica 1. El abecedario. Pronunciación de la h. The Spanish spelling system is easy to learn. Each letter of the Spanish alphabet generally has only one pronunciation associated with it. Most of the letters are similar to English, with a few exceptions. One of these exceptions is the letter h, which in Spanish is silent. Listen carefully and repeat the following phrases containing h. La ortografía (Spelling). Throughout this chapter, you have learned many expressions to use when meeting new people. One commonly occurring problem when meeting people is learning not only how their names are pronounced but also how they are spelled. By knowing the names of the letters in Spanish, you can easily ask for the spelling of any word you are unsure of. Listen as three people spell their names for you using the Spanish alphabet. You will hear each name spelled twice. Follow along and write the names as you hear them. You can check your answers in the Answer Key *The letters k and w only appear in words borrowed from another language.
